I’ll Be Home for Christmas

the Influenzer’s got us!  So we are sticking close to home.  In fact, our lead guy has pretty much banished El O from the shop.  Smart move, too.  He’s about as toxic as 3Mile Island right now.  I’m a bit better than that which means I get to be the caregiver for us both (like you didn’t see that comin’.  Missy D laughed and said ‘ he won’t get better until you do!’.  Truer words never spoken…haw. ack! cough.  Ow.  hurts to laugh.

After two days of horizontal, I’m done.  Sick gets on my nerves.  So I figured, since I’m running the typical gamut (okay from 7a-5p, wretched from 5p onward) I might was well work like a dervish from 7a-5p.  That way, when I collapse at 5p I won’t be all hip and joint hurty like I would be had I lain in bed all day.  El O thinks I’m insane but you know what?  I’ve had this for half the time he has and already I’m nearly all bettah.  Laying about isn’t good for my health!  Walking! Vitamin D!  Vitamin C.  Hack! Cough!  Onward Christian Soldiers! Chop!Chop! BustaMOVE and all that.. (hack! ack!)

No perfume –  the whole house smells like a natatorium (I got crazy with the chlorine this morning) but it smells like PROGRESS, y’know?  You know you’re getting better when you care about how your house smells.  Friday & Saturday?  I wouldn’t have noticed if a T-rex had taken a dump in my living room.

So…I got nothing for ya.  Nothin’ but love, baby.  Nothin’ but love.

And some clementines.cuties

And some gingersnaps. (yeah, the ones that’ll break the teeth right out of your mouth!)  gsnaps

And some gingerale.   boylan

And CUTIES juice! O.M.G.  Cuties juice.  Tarter than oj, it has taken my tastebuds hostage.  I have probably ripped all the enamel off my teeth and ask me if I care.  I am awash in the tangy goodness of clementine juice.  oooooh, yeah!

Lemonade (not from a can).  Lah-di-dah!

What’s with all the citrus?

Where mah chocolate izzz?

Turns out I have NO taste for chocolate right now, which is somewhat terrifying since, if I was on the run from a zombie hoard and had to choose between a box of Recchiuti Fleur de Sel caramels and the keys to a fully gassed-up Hummer…well, okay, I would take the Hummer (Zombies.  And I am not stupid).  But I would not be happy about it.  I always equate winter with chocolate but the longer I live the more I find that winter demands a whole lotta citrus.  My world is upended.  But…….

oooh!  Squirrel!  You know the best part about not being so freakin’ sick anymore?  Clean sheets.  Ho yus!  The ultimate luxury for recovery.  When I was 6-7 yrs old, my brother and I would Keep Strep Alive during the winter months.  Those awful days of  101+ temperatures, feverish, sweating like piglets – and finally, the fever would break, my throat wouldn’t be on fire….and my mom would draw a bath.   I never could figure out how this happened but she would be able to simultaneously help give my wonky self a bath…but when I got out of the bath and into clean pajamas there, in the quiet light, was a freshly-made bed.  My brother and I had these little Indian patterned blankets – his was brown and mine was blue….the hospital corners, the crisp, clean sheets, the clean blanket – hey, waitaminit.  I was only in the bath for, what? 30 minutes?  How did all that happen?  But happen it did.  Now, every time I’m on the upswing from sick and I put on clean sheets, I think of my mom’s maternal dexterity and smile.

so that’s it for me.  Except this:  I wish each and every one of you Happiest of Holidays, full of Comfort and Joy!    Heavy on the Comfort (I’d trade some ‘joy’ for a full night’s sleep!).

Love you all!

Oh my. I missed this post. I truly hope you’re feeling much better now. Best wishes today and in the new year!

  • Lisa D says:

Love cuties! They’re so much more fun than oranges, for some reason. Hope everybody who is sick gets well right quick, and happy holidays to all of you here at the Posse – you are some seriously fabulous people.

  • monkeytoe says:

I am with you. I spent yesterday mostly horizontal after crawling home from a half-day at work, but today I have been cleaning and the reg, though slower than usual. My partner has been sticking to bed and though his flu started three days before mine, we are about even in recovery. I hope the Yule brings you health and happiness! A cuties juice. I am eating and drinking the bumper crop of grapefruit we have this year.

  • Ann says:

So sorry you guys have been ill, but happy to see that you’re coming out of it. Here’s hoping that by tomorrow (Dec. 25) you will be somewhat back to normal. Keep the clementines, ginger ale and gingersnaps coming, sweetie!! Sending you much love and big hugs.

  • malsnano86 says:

    Fresh sheets are THEEEEE best.

Wishing you health and blessings, dear Evil Auntie A.

  • Julie L says:

I’m sorry you’re sick….we had it in our house already so I now just what you’re going through(those joint aches were the WORST!) What got me about your post was your commentary about sheets!! YES!! I think fresh sheets are one of THE best gifts in life and think one of the best signs of “gettin it together” IS clean sheets! You really made me nostalgic thinking about my mom, being little and all that goes with remembering childhood. Get well soon and don’t worry about us; we’ll be here for when you’re feeling better 🙂

  • bevfred says:

What a lovely post. Sorry to hear that you’ve been ill but you have a great approach. I’m also a clean sheets nut….they’re the best. Love to all! Merry Christmas!

  • Oooh, clementines are sooo good right now! Must get some gingersnaps to go with–and I think I’ll dip them in tea. I have some Constant Comment around here someplace…Has anyone else noticed that the Constant Comment tea isn’t as spicy and dark as it used to be? Sorry about the influenza yuckiness and I hope you’re all feeling better soon. Poodle has it right: if I tell my husband that my head hurts, he will suddenly come down with a scathing brain tumor. I OD’d on chocolate at work; people kept bringing it in, and just like a fool, I kept eating it. Now I too only want citrus–must be an antidote or something. Love to read you any time, even when you are sick! Sending healing vibes and Christmas hugs~ [[[[~~~~~]]]] EW

    • Ann says:

Yay for the gingersnaps, Queen Cupcake! And they are fabulous dipped in any kind of milk, too. BTW, a friend at work serves them with a yummy pumpkin dip made with canned pumpkin, light cream cheese, spices and sugar — so good I could just lick the bowl!

  • poodle says:

Vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, ginger ale…anything and everything. And yes to bleach!
I hope you’re feeling a little closer to healthy with each passing moment. Husbands always take longer to recover because they always are sicker than you are. You have never experienced illness like they do. I’ve been told many times my throat has never been as sore as my Hubband’s gets. As women we just don’t understand the pain of it all don’t ya know. 😉
Much love and happiness to you and yours for Christmas! Hugs, hugs, and great big poodle kisses from me to you!

    • Solanace says:

Love how you put it. My husband used to complain that nobody understands men’s probations during a woman’s pregancy. So yes, I guess we’ll just never know how hard it is for them.

    • malsnano86 says:

Yep, teh menz are always Sicker Than Thou – at least that’s the case with my father, my brother, my husband, and younger son. (Elder son would rather just hole up in his room and have us push food on a tray through the door. He goes all silent, which worries me, but at least he’s not complaining.)

      • poodle says:

Mine has a sinus headache today so life as we know it has ceased. He’s on the couch sighing and pouting.

  • Donna says:

Despite the fact that you are not feeling well, your writing is filled with so much joy and positive energy. Get better soon. Keep drinking the ginger ale and eating the citrus until you find yourself mixing it with a little chocolate!!! Merry Christmas!!!

  • Kandice says:

I’m glad you’re on the mend. Everyone I know is sick right now, and all of us are drinking orange juice by the gallon. Lousy time of year to be sick! Take care of your self and have a healthy and happy holiday!

  • Katherine says:

Nothing works better than spicy ginger ale and citrus. We got exposed a few days ago. I stocked up on OJ and ginger ale. Feel better soon.

  • Laurels says:

Merry Christmas! Take care of yourself. I’m going back to wrapping, having tried and failed to print out some photos for ornament frames.

  • Sun Mi says:
