(Slightly) Off Topic: Bubble Bath

bubbleOne of the unfortunate things about my last couple apartments is that they have wholly inadequate bathtubs- low and short, so that I can’t really soak in them: I look like Rock Hudson in “Pillow Talk”. Well, if only in size to tub ratio. My first apartment here in LA had a twenties tub that I could truly luxuriate in- long and deep and I could soak with only my head peeping out. As a matter of fact it was in this tub that I rode out a minor earthquake- I suppose that’s how devoted to soaking I was.

Not that I don’t still enjoy a good bath, even if I feel like I’m trying to soak in a chafing dish. I have had varying success with the bath goo- I had a delicious tub of bath salts I bought at Neiman Marcus that had a little shell to scoop it out and was written of to “release the goddess within.” It smelled divine, but they stopped carrying the line and I’ve never found it again. On the other hand a friend once gave me some “bath bombs” from Lush that were just awful: filled with color, bits of fluff guaranteed to clog the plumbing and g-d help me, glitter. I am not a Real Housewife, don’t have a cleaning person and frankly do not wish to pick glitter out of my netherlands, so I put them in the toilet bowl. They smelled nice, so there was that.

So, lets talk bath. What do you like to use in your tub? Let us know in the comments.

Have you ever tried Lush’s bubble bars? A nice variety of scents and a little goes a long way. I’m a long time fan. And when my kids were young, they considered a Lush bubble bath to be a huge treat. I love so many I can’t even pick a fav to tell you to try.

Dedicated bather here who also makes do with a dismal tub — a harvest gold tub/shower insert, vintage 1975. My favorite bath products include Queen Helene Lavender Batherapy (a relaxing blend of salts, includes a touch of lithium), ABRA Bath (a range of fragrant, moisturizing blends of salts and oils), and the oddly potent Kneipp Pure Bliss Bath.

  • Winterlude says:

Your comments about the lush bath bombs were hilarious, by the way. After a relaxing soak who wants to clean a bunch of crap out of their tub?! And off their body?

  • Winterlude says:

Being on a budget and not really caring about bubbles (they dissipate too quickly!), I am a huge fan of essential oils. I just put a couple of drops in and it is marvelous! You can customize any way you like and get some health benefits too. I am a big fan of geranium.

I LOVE soaking in the tub with fragrant bubbles or oils, and we have a lovely garden tub here at home. Sadly, my back issues have made it so difficult to get in and out of the tub that I’ve deemed it not worth the trouble lately. I do like some of the Lush bath bombs (the rose one, and something called Sex __?__ that’s mostly jasmine and some rose. But no glitter. Ugh.

    • Ann says:

Maggiecat, I am nodding in sympathy with you. We also have a garden tub but with my bad back, it might take a crane to get me out of the bath once I got in, ha! But if I were ever to brave the tub, I would take some of the new Carnal Flower gel with me.

My small apartment has no bathtub, only a shower. I have been here 5 years. Come to think of it perhaps that’s why I’m so angry and irritable all the time. I’ve been bath deprived for years?

  • AnnieA says:

Chanel used to have Cristalle bubble bath and it was wonder, making my bathroom smell wonderful for a day or two. I still miss it. It’s hard to find actual bubble bath versus shower gels, but Yves Rocher and Pacifica products smell nice and are good value.

I’m another fan of baths, and enjoy scented products in them. My DD is a huge fan of the Lush bath bombs right now, so I’ve spent time gasping for breath in that store. The rose bubbleroon is a better choice because it dissolves, makes bubbles, and just has their rose scent.

But my real favorites would have to be Prada Infusion d’Iris bath salts and Chanel No. 19 bath and shower gel. The bath salts come in a drum-shaped box with a metal scoop. They’re highly scented so you only need one scoop per bath. The No. 19 gel is no longer on their site; I think it was a limited edition a few years ago. I’m waiting for a reissue.

For every day good scents, the Pacifica line of bath and shower gels work nicely in the tub. My fave are Persian Rose, California Star Jasmine, and Mediterranean Fig.

  • OMG! My favourite time of the day is BATH TIME!
Currently my tub has these Body Washes that I use for Bubble Baths.
Fig by Korres, Shalimar by Guerlain and Aramis Invigorating.
There are also a selection of Bath Oils.
Nikki de Saint Phalle, Blenham Bouquet by Penhaligons, Strees Relief by dermatologica and Blue Agave & Cacao by Jo Malone.
As you can see, I really love to bathe. The new apartment has a lovely big tub, it feels incredibly luxurious.
