Devil Wears Prada Bloopers

Hi there POSSEEE! Today I thought we could go TOTALLY off topic, well not totally but as I loved The Devil Wears Prada so much and I just came across this fabulous Blooper Reel I thought it might be OK to share. Can you even imagine that next year this film will be 10 years old? It seems like yesterday.

Let’s have some fun with The Devil Wears Prada Bloopers though. Let’s SCENT THEM! Yes, we all know what the actresses really wear and maybe even know what their characters wear but I’d like us to Scent With Niche or Indie frags. Come on! It will be fun, and yes silly answers can be used too. Let’s all just get involved in some silly fragrance fun, we can go back to being incredibly serious perfumistas next week.

The Devil Wears Prada Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily BluntPhoto Stolen IMDb

My answers:

Rose d`Ete Les Parfums de Rosine FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Mery Streep as Miranda Priestly: In my mind Miranda Priestly is part of the establishment, though she loves innovation it has to be the right innovation at the right time. She works hard and is very good at what she does but a lot of what happens in fashion is random and unexplainable. Rose d’Ete by Parfums Rosine is a modern fruity rose, it’s beautiful and slightly brittle, has some spikes and ends in a flurry of soft musks.

Coven Andrea Maack FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs: Coven by Andrea Maack for Andy Sachs because it’s beautiful, dark, new and unusual and has this awesome whiskey magic running through the spicy green that gives it an extra something, helps it stand alone. There is a lovely woodiness that hints at the strength of the Andy Sachs character and only someone secure could wear it well.

Empressa Penhaligon`s FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Emily Blunt as Emily: I’m going to put Emily in Empressa by Penhaligon’s. It’s fruity, young and thin, has loads of zing, comes beautifully packaged and stays pretty linear kind of like Emily in The Devil Wears Prada. I like Empressa very much but it’s a little short on growth and depth for me to wear it other than as a bedtime scent.

Go on, join the fun.

    Miranda – vol de nuit
    Andy – angel innocent
    Emily – NR edt

  • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia! I’m never very good at scenting people/characters, etc., but I would put Miranda in something that definitely makes a statement, such as Fracas, Mitsy or FM’s PoaL (a power rose if ever there was one). Or in her softer moments, something more green but that still has bite, such as Gucci’s Envy. As for the other two, I haven’t a clue, ha!

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Ann,
      Lovely to see you.
Yes PoaL is a great choice for her. I even can imagine her loving the simple bottle and that the nose is on the label. That would really appeal I think. Yes, I could imagine her following Dominique Ropion since the Kenzo Elephant or RL Safari days, then wearing Armani Code before finally finding PoaL.

I see Miranda in a chypre. Nikki St Phalle, perhaps, though she has certainly got a bottle of Mitsy, too.

Emily wears Chinatown because she knows it’s trendy and she likes the bottle, but she prefers Juicy Couture, Angel, and Pink Sugar and wears those everywhere but work. Several years down the road, she discovers Uncle Serge and Five O`Clock Au Gingembre becomes her signature scent.

Right before she left the Midwest for the Big Apple, Andy drove to the fancy mall 2 hours away to buy herself a bottle of No.5, it being the fanciest, most sophisticated perfume she knew of. But before she even made it to the Chanel counter, she was waylaid by a bottle of Creed’s Love in Black, and never so much as sampled La Cinq. Thus began her life long passion for cool violets, and she wore the incomparable Violette Fumee on her wedding day.

    • Portia says:

WOW! Tammy, that is a fabulous list.
Emily!! Hilarious. Chinatown is so perfect and your Andy timeline…..Love in Black, the US First Lady fragrance. Great choice.
Of course Miranda would be a chypre, she was probably mares with Niki de Saint Phalle in the Studio 54 days too.

Also new to this, but here goes:
Miranda: Jasmine and Cigarettes or Bal a Versailles — something perverse
Emily: SL’s A La Nuit — aspiring to be like Miranda, but with her own version
Andy: Caron Parfum Sacre — we’re all picking green notes for her, aren’t we!

    • Portia says:

      Hi there Heidi,
Parfum Sacre is an excellent choice for Andy. Big, strong, spicy floral with lovely green tendencies and an amber base, yum. It’s also one of my favourite fragrances.
HA! BaV is so far from anything I woyuld ever have chosen for Miranda but now you say it,,,,,

I’m not very good at this, but I’ll give it a whirl 🙂

    Miranda Priestly – Bandit Parfum
    Andy – Tauer Vanilla Flash
    Emily – Lutens De Profundis

    • Portia says:

Bandit Parfum!! Excellent choice EchoCharlie, so freaking good. Old school but so modern, a classic for ball busting business women the world over.
Love the idea of Andy in the Vanilla Flash too, she would SO be on it. Indie/Niche, small batch, quite hard to find, PERFECT!

  • Tara says:

It’s such a fun, feel-good film, Portia. I really want to curl up with it now.

I love perfuming characters! Here are my niche picks –

Miranda – Tubereuse Criminelle, Serge Lutens
Emily – Dries Van Noten, Frederic Malle
Andy – Vetiver of Haiti, The 7 Virtues

    • Portia says:

Genius picks Tara. HA! I love Tubereuse Criminelle for Miranda, so freaking good. Yes, it would be perfect for Andy to wear something responsible and gorgeous.
      Thanks for dropping by,
