The bathroom!

I’ve been talking about this for months, and it’s not quite done, but I wanted to show you the mostly complete master bathroom renovation.  I also need some ideas for paint color.

bathroom renovation bathtub

This is my gorgeous new bathtub sitting under my two new windows.

bathroom renovation shower

This is my new shower with the frameless doors, my new vanity and the sink looks much like the bathtub, from the same company.  Inside the shower is one of those rain heads, body jets, hand-held shower wand, and that tile looks like big slabs of marble and the floor is the river rock.

bathroom renovation vanity

The vanity straight on.  The frame you see behind the vanity isn’t completed. It is my mirror frame on a sliding barn door thingie. I can move the mirror where I want. I just need to take it in and get a mirror put in it.  I’m going to stain it probably a dark gray maybe?  I’m ditching the light fixture above it and putting in a single light that reflects down.  I may get something colorful for that just for  that splash of color if I stay with the gray/white/black.

I’ve got a storage cabinet that needs to be assembled and hung over the toilet and a little cabinet that will go inside the door where my makeup vanity mirror will get mounted, so i can set up all my blow dryers and makeup crap in that.

I am so happy with my bathroom. I know it’s not enormous, but it’s the space I have upstairs that I could use, and with all the light, it feels so big compared to about half the size it was before.

So the paint for the walls. Right now it is primed white. I sorta like the gray with white walls.  So I’m thinking of doing some version of white like the Benjamin Moor Simply White, but also maybe an iced lilac that Benjamin Moore has. I’m worried that it needs a little more color in there. I’ve picked plain white towels and rugs at this point.  The gray and white alone will work for me, but I want it to feel a little something, I guess?  Not sure if that is too harsh.  Ideas on color or no?  leave it clean and simple?

Wow, you’re new bathroom is stunning. If you really want to add interest, you can paint the wood trim around the windows using one of the colors already in your bathroom and leave the walls white. It is lovely just as it is though.

  • J. Tong says:

Looks ah-mazing!! I think your idea of staying with grey/white/lilac will work well and make the room soothing and peaceful.

  • SublimiSomnium says:

Beautiful! I think I agree with the majority of the comments and keep the walls a light color, and use colorful accessories. We painted our bathroom a dark taupe to match the stone tile, similar to yours, and I love the effect. But our room is about double the size so I worry you would lose the open feeling.

Hope you enjoy the heck out of your new bathroom soon!

  • FeralJasmine says:

So beautiful! You are going to be very happy in that tub. All the good suggestions have been made, so I will just say that you have a gorgeous space there.

  • Neva says:

Beautiful! Just beautiful! It was worth the waiting. Just before you mentioned it, I thought of pastel lilac. Maybe painting the walls would be a bit too much, I’d go for details and bathing products in lilac. Enjoy your new bathroom.

  • filomena813 says:

Your new bathroom is gorgeous! I tend to agree with what some of the others have said…leave it neutral and pop it with colorful towels when you feel like you need a change of color.

  • Caroline says:

Congrats, Patty–so serene and beautiful. If you’re not averse to pale gray, here are some Benjamin Moore suggestions: 1478 Horizon, 1556 Vapor Trails, 871 Pearl River & 1479 Alaskan Husky (yep, lots of shades of gray in this house!)

  • LaDona says:

There is a color called Silhouette by Benjamin Moore that will make the walls fade and bring the outside in. Plus set off that gorgeous room. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/silhouette Just a thought….

  • Sun Mi says:

Stunning! Colors are so personal, I don’t want to say anything – but the bathroom looks wonderful!

  • Ann says:

Simply stunning, dear Patty! And so, so happy for you that it all worked out so nicely, and that it’s finished at last. I agree with several others here (because I hate the thought of painting any more than absolutely necessary) about keeping it neutral and adding color accents through towels, flowers, bath accessories, etc. That way you can immerse yourself in any new color family your heart desires, with minimum inconvenience. Enjoy!!

  • Tatiana says:

I’d keep the walls some shade of white or very, very, very light neutral. White rugs!! You are far braver and neater than I am. If you’ve already got white bath towels, maybe through in color in your rugs or hand towels or other accessories. Like the mirror frame, soap dish, tissue box cover, etc. That way if you get tired of the color you can change it. I love the tile you chose for the shower walls. That bath tub is so sculptural and awesome. Beautiful space you’ve created.

  • Janice says:

Absolutely gorgeous. I would tend to keep it neutral and go with white walls and probably white towels and rugs too, but I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

  • HeidiC says:

AhMahGah! This is gorgeous! The shower is fantastic, and I love the bathtub and that cool faucet design! As far as color, agree with the others — keep it simple. Either a warm white or possibly a pale warm gray. I’m so happy for you!

  • Sherri M. says:

I agree with Portia: keep it neutral, although I do love your suggestion of iced lilac (very very pale on the walls). i love classic white linens, and don’t forget those fresh flowers!! But you really have to choose what you love and what makes you happy! Looks fabulous!!

  • Dina Church says:

Lovety love love your bathroom, Patty! My favorite color to mix with grey is pale pink. If the bathroom were mine, I’d buy icy pink towels and bath mat/rug. But the neutals are striking just as they are, too. Job well done to your contractor! Here’s a scented soap rec: the Chanel No.19 bar soap smells amazing…scents the bathroom and is a lovely pale green square.

  • Eldarwen says:

I would go with a light lilac, maybe a pale green. White would be a little on the boring side

  • Pam says:

What a great bathroom! It is really beautiful. The white is nice, but I am a color-lover myself. Something pale and aquatic would make me happy.

  • Koyel says:

That is one GORGEOUS bathroom. I’m so excited for you!!!

I agree that the only color should come from towels and rugs, which are easily replaceable!

  • Portia says:

Looks great Patty. Keep it neutral but put some flowers in there for colour, your beauty and bathing products will all be colourful too.
    Portia xx

  • Maya says:

I love your bathroom. Beautiful! I could spend a long time in that tub, only I would have red wine. 🙂 I was going to say the same thing about color as Rina.

  • KimB says:

    gorgeous!! love that tub!!

the colour scheme is similar to my kitchen, including the marble in the shower (it’s blacksplash in my kitchen). I have white cabinets so was worried about white on the walls, thinking it would be too much white. I went with pale grey, which I think was a mistake. White would have made the blacksplash, counter, and floor pop much more, would have made the veining in the marble stand out much more. Next time I paint, I’ll change to white (I like Home Hardware’s Behr Polar Bear, cool white with the slightest touch of grey). Good luck!

  • Tami.H. says:

Love, love, love this bathroom!! I do like the idea of the iced lilac color. We used a very calming color in our master bath, Topsail from Sherwin Williams. Made me feel like I was in a spa.

  • Rina says:

I’d leave it clean and simple and get my pops of color from towels and rugs. I can change the color on a whim and it’s easier that repainting the walls. Gorgeous bath!
