Memorial Day musings and welcome, summer!

memorial holiday 2Happy Monday, everyone, and if you’re in the U.S., happy Memorial Day to you! Take a moment today, if you will, to remember service members around the world, past and present. In the U.S., Memorial Day is the traditional kick-off to summer, even if the calendar says otherwise, so for some of us, it’s into summer we go!

Since it’s a holiday here and many folks are in and out, traveling, etc., especially with all the high school and college graduations, let’s keep this short.

What are your plans for today, and what fragrance will you be wearing? What are your favorite summer holiday / cookout scents, whether out to Aunt Betty’s backyard barbecue, to that picnic in the park, to a friend’s pool party? Or around the firepit or fireplace, for those of you who may be chilling in the Southern Hemisphere?

I’m going to work for most of the day today, and while it’s likely that there will be few people in the office, I dare not break the “no fragrance” policy. So scent will have to wait until I’m back home. It’s going to be pretty warm here (hovering around 90 F), so something cool and relaxing, I’m thinking. Maybe a spritz of Guerlain’s Cologne du Parfumeur or Chanel’s Eau de Cologne. Or later in the evening a spritz of Frederic Malle’s Carnal Flower, in celebration of my boys coming home from the beach. What scents do you tend to reach for that are cooling and relaxing?

Wherever you may be or whatever you’re doing, enjoy your day, lovely Posse folks!

Hi! Glad you had a good holiday, and were able to spend time together as a family before your hubby deploys. BTW, you smelled great — Moss and one of my fave vanillas — Duelle! Also, if you’re interested, Surrender to Chance (click on logo/link over at top right of this page) has samples and decants of Eau Duelle.

  • Memorial Day’s pretty poignant for us, since my husband’s in the service and about to deploy off for the rest of the year. We spent it with family, having a cookout and playing with our little one. It was really hot here today, hovering near 100 F/38ish C (hooray deserts!), so I started off with Commodity’s Moss but ended it with Dyptique’s Eau Duelle, which I got a fortuitous spritz of while we were out and about pre-cookout.

Memorial Day is the day set aside to honor those who were killed in battle, and in our small community in the rural South, we have a service in the morning for the men who died to keep us free. (Thankfully our little town has not lost any women on the battlefield)

We’ll have a cookout later this afternoon, but the morning is always somber.

    • Ann says:

Chloe, having grown up in a small town, we also had services for the fallen. It is a somber day, but a very thankful one. Hope you enjoyed the cookout.

No plans here. Friends from Virginia were in to visit and left last evening. Just chicken on the grill and salad and fruit. The teenagers are enjoying sleeping in til noon or so, and my kids who live in town will show up at some point, but now it’s quiet. Friday we have family arriving for graduation celebrations. I’m going to order some Sarah Horowitz Perfect Coconut Milk because I’ve been craving summer (I think! 🙂 ) Have a wonderful Memorial Day, everyone!

    • Ann says:

That sounds nice, Sherri, and also laid-back, which you need after having company. Enjoy your week and your family, dear! BTW, wasn’t sure — how many are still at home? Somehow I thought your nest was next to empty.

  • Neva says:

Hi Ann, the “no fragrance” policy is really a shame. I’m happy to work in my home office, so no rules apply to me 😉 …except, I have to work whenever they need me and that means also when I’m on holidays. Anyway it’s very warm here and it makes me happy. I’m wearing Fils de Dieu from ELDO, just got the sample a few days ago and I like it very much. Have a great day!

    • Ann says:

Lucky, lucky you, Neva! I know it’s a pain to have to sometime work holidays and such, but so nice to be able to work out of your home. BTW, you smell great!

  • Portia says:

    Hey Ann,
No holiday here in Sydney today and it’s been go-go-go. From a near dawn bank run through office work, post office, giving to goodwill, lunch with a mate, cleaning the house, organising ourselves and later collecting an Aunty who is coming stay for a week, then tonight I’ll write all the girls trivia Q&A for the week..
I know everyone else has busy days like this every day but for me it is HECTIC.
Wore vtg Madam Rochas EdT and parfum through the day and it was perfect. Now I’m going to spritz the new Shalimar Cologne EdT, just bought a bottle. Woo Hoo!
    Portia xx

    • Ann says:

Wow, Portia — you have had a busy day! Can I borrow and/or bottle some of your energy, please? 🙂 And congrats on the new bottle of Shalimar — very nice!

Not doing much on Monday since I have to work and I am still melted from going to Blossom Time in my neck of the woods. It’s going to continue being really hot in Cleveland. I will probably end up wearing no 19 tomorrow.

    • Ann says:

Hi! Is Blossom Time a festival or music event or both? I have a feeling it’s going to be a long, hot summer for many of us. But you’ll be great in the lovely No. 19!

  • Svetlana says:

Hi Ann, right now I am thoroughly enjoying my Sephora sample of Mugler Angel. I smell why it’s so popular, very femme, very pretty. Tomorrow will probably be a retry of Stella. I raided Sephora’s fragrance section after a great make over and getting some makeup essentials.

    • Ann says:

How fun, Svetlana! I love to play in Sephora, too, and they are so good about samples. Enjoy all your goodies!
