Remarkable People by Etat Libre d’Orange

etatOur dear Portia a couple of months ago for my birthday sent me a package containing a hunk of the most delicious white chocolate and some perfume samples (but of course..) For those of you who have never had the pleasure, Portia is one of the nicest and most engaging people I have ever had the pleasure to know; I was amazed that some of the most notoriously crust Angelenos she encountered just melted after speaking to her. She even got samples out of a Century City Macy*s SA, who usually act as if you had asked for one of their kidneys to us hoi polloi.

In any case, one of the samples was for Etat Libre d’Orange’s Remarkable People. Etat Libre d’Orange is that quirky company who has done things like Tilda Swinton’s Like This as well as the famously redolent Secretions Magnifiques which I believe I once referred to as “CSI: Coney Island” because to me it smelled like a plugged dead body washed up under a pier. Why anyone would like to smell like that I cannot fathom, but I will admit that I spent a fun 1/2 hour with my scent twin in NYC waiting and hoping that an unsuspecting young Scarsdale matron would spritz..

In any case, Remarkable People is one of the most accessible of the line; while it is listed as for women at the Sephora website, I think of it as fairly unisex.

Notes (from Sephora Website):

Inspired by and created for heroes large and small, Remarkable People is a salute to those who defy convention and challenge the status quo to change the world around them. Bright citrus top notes forge ahead leading a warm heart of spicy florals laid over a grounding base of soft woods.

Notes:
Grapefruit, Champagne Accord, Cardamom, Jasmine, Curry Je, Black Pepper, Labdanum, Sandalwood, Lorenox.

Style:
Optimistic. Adventurous. Original.

What it doesn’t mention is that there is a fair bit of very interesting skank in there, and those of you who know me know that’s no bad thing. Otherwise the notes are pretty accurate, The scent is fairly long-lasting; I got about 6 hours out of it, which is pretty good for a citrus scent.

Remarkable People is $149 for 3.3 ounces at Sephora, as I mentioned Portia gifted me with the sample. Image from Sephora website.

The winner of the Jaipur Homme is Spring_Pansy. Use the “contact us” with an address in the continental United States and I will ship it out.

    Tom,
You are the best. What a lovely thing to read on a spring Friday afternoon here in Sydney as I head out for the local swimming pool to do some laps. We were a fairly unstoppable duo while I was in LA, so much fun. I brag about our crispy bacon, pancakes and maple syrup breakfasts at the diner to almost anyone who’ll listen.
