Jo Malone Bath Oil: Discontinuation Downers

Hey there Perfume Posse, You know I love my baths right? So I get very attached to the products that I use there. With only 1/3 left in my Blue Agave & Cacao Bath Oil by Jo Malone I thought it was time to restock. NOPE! Nowhere to be found. So annoying.

What do I love about the Jo Malone Bath Oils? Let’s start with them being in a plastic bottle, I have a tiled bathroom floor and smashing the Jo Malone Red Roses Bath Oil glass on it while I was in bare feet was not cool. The generous size, 250ml is a really wonderful amount, if I use approx 5ml per bath thats 50 baths (@$85/250ml that under $1.75/bath). The scent is mild but noticeable on your body over the couple of hours after you bathe so perfect if you have a relaxing bath before bedtime. My skin is left feeling soft and supple, quite often a bath can be drying but Jo Malone Bath Oils leave me moisturised and with the lightest dewy sheen.

What I particularly like about the Blue Agave & Cacao Bath Oil is that while I’m in the bath it has a soft sappy greenness offset by a warmer, sweeter vanilla/chocolate. It’s not a gourmand fragrance, too dry and green for that. Interesting though. After my bath it’s a perfect base for any fragrance green, vanilla, amber or warm floral, adding an extra kick without changing basic scents and I feel that it gives fragrance extra traction, extending the life of some of my more fleeting L’Artisan and Aqua Allegorias.

I’m strictly a shower person but I’ve used JM & other bath oils for decades as after-shower moisturizers. I’ve still got a couple of Floris, Penhaligon & my last Jardin de Bagatelle bottle but relied on the JMs to fill gaps. Sorry they are disappearing! I stocked up long ago on talcs, another necessity, fortunately, because it seems the only accompaniments available now are lotions, shower gels, & occasionally soaps.
My 7 yr old granddaughter’s favorite among my bath powders is Quadrille. I think I’m training a future perfumista!

  • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! So, so sorry to hear about your faves being discontinued — what a bummer! I’m not much of a bath person, but I feel badly for you on these as they did sound nice. Here’s hoping you can find something new to enjoy.

  • Maggiecat says:

Jo Malone discontinued every scent I love -Honeysuckle and Jasmine, their Verbena scent… if I love it, it’s gone. I won’t try any of the bath oils to save them for the rest of you!

  • Musette says:

DagNABBIT! I cannot take scented baths because Girl Parts don’t like it – but I do love to take a nice, hot bath and then slather the bath oil on my skin whilst still wet. I’m like a medfly, with no sense of linear time, so I can’t tell you what’s been discontinued. But I do LUBS me some No5 bath oil. xoxoxoA

    • Portia says:

      Oh NOOOO Musette,
That is a shame about your lady bits.
Great idea though, the oil melts in? How long does it take to feel non greasy?

I’ve never been a bath person since I don’t have a big bathtub to enjoy taking a bath, so it’s showers for me. I hate it when things are discontinued. Theorema, Nuda and Vanille Absolument are the ones that I miss and I can’t exactly afford to go spending an arm and a leg anymore for discontinued perfumes. Stupid teeth.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Eldarwen22,
Yes, I have some Vanille Absolument and Nuda here. Love them, particularly Nuda.
A prerequisite for me in a home is a bath. It’s the ultimate brain detangled for me. That’s also why I’m swimming down at the local pool again because I love being submerged.

    Portia!
It seems like everything I love is being let go. I mean everything – bath products, lipsticks, fragrances. Even things like favorite curry sauces, greenhouse shade cloths, bras, shoes, the reading glasses I like are all being (or have been) discontinued. I suppose it has to do with my age?

  • HeidiC says:

I’m not really a bath person, but I love the description of this one — the dry, green scent with chocolate sounds kind of like SL’s Borneo?

I’m sad that Isabella Rossellini’s Manifesto is gone — gone! — forever. And that I will never smell Shalini.

    • Portia says:

      Hey HeidiC,
Not nearly as OTT as Borneo. This one is a wallflower by comparison.
I remember Isabella Rossellini having a fragrance but can’t remember a thing about it.

I love the Jo Malone bath oils. I have purchased the smaller sized $25 versions (which are in glass with a stopper) to use as fragrance oils. I’m currently working my way through a bottle of Blackberry and Bay. I think of these as a great bargain compared to the fragrances.

  • Martha says:

Ack! Ack! Ack! It looks like White Jasmine & Mint is gone, too! That’s a core part of my bath!
