Indigo by Spyros Drosopoulos for Baruti 2015

Hi Posse! Not long ago I fell madly in love with Dama Koupa by Baruti. So much that I bought a bottle and got chatting to Sryros who is proprietor and perfumer at Baruti. He was kind enough to send me a sample set of their fragrances so I can tell you all about them. Indigo has immediately caught my attention.

Indigo by Spyros Drosopoulos for Baruti 2015

Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Mastic oil (Chios), Hyacinth, Rose (Greece), Frankincense (Oman), Cedar (Atlas), Sandalwood, NOOUD, Amber

Green, sheer, wet and lightly dank. Hyacinth, fresh cut stems and waxy petals. Fresh hewn wood, still a little green.

A storm is coming, feel the dampness as the wind runs before it, flinging the newly fallen damp autumn leaves ahead of it. Indigo is the smell of a cool change after a hot day, arriving at the lakes after driving through miles of harvested croplands.

Could Indigo be the harbinger also of spring? The first green leaves appear, icy streams start to run, sap running through the trees and awakening them..

Unusual. With the independent perfumery only stamp upon it. No room full of perfume know nothings voted for this, there is a boldness and bumpiness that department store and most niche have sandpapered away. Indigo feels like an honest attempt to create something divergent, something green that actually fits its blue name perfectly.

The heart is stark woods, bitter torn branches and incense, bleak.

Who could wear Indigo? Someone unconventional, someone who has thought about fragrance and wants their personal scent to speak of hidden treasure, anyone unafraid to smell interesting and slightly challenging.

Up close it’s much more unusual, from arms length a greenish, woody, incense fragrance along the lines of, but not like, some of the CdG work.

Late to the party….. oh, this sounds like something I should definitely try! Although I too am going to forget the comment about dill pickles.

  • Pam says:

Ok, Portia, I will admit that I haven’t even HEARD of Baruti, let alone smelled it. But after reading your review I want a bucket of it!

  • Rosemary says:

Great review; I haven’t tried any Baruti, but now I’d definitely like to experience Indigo!

  • Maya says:

I tried this one when it first came out and thought I could love it. What happened makes me laugh even now. All I could smell was dill pickles and only dill pickles. Friends thought Indigo smelled somewhat “herbal”. When I told them what I smelled, they were very annoyed with me because now they also smelled…… dill pickles. LOL.
