OE by Antonio Gardoni for Bogue 2015

Hi there Perfume Posse, Antonio Gardoni is one of my mates. Not a ring every day, text and email kinda friend but whenever we find ourselves in the same city or event we always try to have lunch or a chat. His work is something completely different to the mainstream and even divergent from most of the niche and Indie. He seems to be finding his own crazy, intense, personal olfactory way in a world of prefab and copycat. His perfumes aren’t for everyone. Not in a Frag Snob, I get this so I’m a better perfumista than you way but more that there is only a small slice of the population that they’re going to sing for. OE feels to me like the easiest of the Bogue scents to become friendly with.

Here Jin & I are in Milan last year with Val the Cookie Queen, Vero Kern and Antonio.

OE by Antonio Gardoni for Bogue 2015

OE Bogue FragranticaFragrantica

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Neroli, Clove, Black pepper, Rosemary, Thyme, Camphor, Lebanon cedar, Juniper, Pine, Cypress, Rose, Jasmine, Vetiver, Benzoin, Tobacco, Resins, Sandalwood

A bright, neon burst of citrus opens OE. It’s fun and loud and cut through by the dry rasp of freshly cracked peppercorns and cloves. It’s engaging and lively but my least favourite part of the whole ride.

The heart is where I am lost happily. Woods, white flowers and resins all set up an interesting frisson, I’m not sure which way OE will go and it perfectly straddles the tightrope wire of all three. Harmonious yet warring for supremacy. None of the notes win but we the wearer do. Without being freaky weird I’m on the edge of my seat. When I wear OE into the world it smells very nice, well behaved, interesting but not overly compelling so I can go about my errands. Stop though at any time to take a whiff and I am surprised and entertained happily by the story and facets that come alive every time.

Dry down is warm resinous tobacco, sweet and honeyed till fade.

Howdy, Portia!! This sounds fabulous; interesting and quirky but not “OMG what am I wearing??” off-putting either. Must try this line, Thanks for the great review and so neat that you know all the cool kids. 🙂

  • HeidiC says:

I haven’t tried OE! Like others have noted, I adored Maai — a big, old-school dirty chypre — and I enjoyed MEM. I’ve also been intrigued by Noun.

  • Darling Lily says:

I have sampled Maai, and like Ms Smith above, put it straight on my Must Buy list. I hope to sample the entire range, they all seem like they’d be fantastic.

  • Musette says:

    You live FAB! xoxoxo

  • Kathleen Smith says:

Thank you for this review! I need to sample OE! I love a fragrance that opens with bergamot and the drydown sounds gorgeous. I adore Bogue Maai, on my FB wishlist. I’ve sampled Gardelia which is beautiful but it’s out of my budget. Mem wasn’t for me. I also really want to sample Noun, notes sound up my alley.
