Boxing Day! and Xmas Fragrances

Hi Posse! For those that haven’t been celebrating Christmas and don’t know the traditions Boxing Day is the relaxed, fun, cruisy day after. Traditionally in Britain, it was a custom for tradesmen to collect “Christmas boxes” of money or presents on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year. Australia has the name but not the policy. We have a Boxing Day Cricket Test Match here and though I don’t follow cricket it was on the TV today at my BFF Kath’s family home where we all congregated for leftover food and swimming.

Boxing Day! and Xmas Fragrances

I hope everyone who celebrated had a good time. Here are Jin and I on Xmas morning after opening our big presents to each other. I might have scored from Jin a coffee mug from Tiffany & Co. and some sneakers in my favourite style and the original colour way from 2013 when I discovered them! Good shopping eh? My BFF Kath saw my Holiday Giving 2018 post and bought me the Tiffany & Co. china paper cup set!! AMAZING!! Spoiled rotten.

So back to fragrances. What got skin time around here?

Christmas Eve: Nuit de Noel by Caron

We had quite a cool evening and I was grateful because Nuit de Noel can be a bit over the top in muggy heat. As it was its spicy florals, smoky incense and animalics were a perfect fit. I was wrapped in a VERY glamorous cocoon and dreamed I was a 1950s movie star wrapping the presents.

Christmas Day: CHANEL No 19 EdT and Extrait

A perfect hot Christmas Day fit. All day I was given lovely gusts of galbanum, iris with bouquet and oak moss. I am so glad I saw someone else SOTD and decided to follow suit. Excellent choice.

Christmas Night: Cristalle by CHANEL

I wanted something still fresh but a bit sweeter for the night. It was a dry heat and very comfortable in our bed under the ceiling fan. Cristalle rarely gets a wear around her but it was perfect for Christmas night 2018.

Boxing Day: Pluie de Soleil by Phaedon

if you like ripe fruit and want to smell like it then you’ll adore Pluie de Soleil. It’s so different from most of Pierre Guillaume’s work but retains his deft hand at overdosing. I love it in the heat and smile when I wear it.

Boxing Day Night: Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker

It’s evening here now and I wanted something pretty but not overwhelming. I’m lightly sunburned from hours in the pool today and my body is feeling quite warm. Lovely is like a cool glass bottle pressed against my cheek. Rosy white musk, YUM!

So what did you all wear over the Christmas break. Even if you didn’t partake, what are you wearing today?

A little late to the party but I must say, babydoll: thank you for sharing (so much of your wonderful life) and caring (the knowledge that not everyone may enjoy the holidays as much as you – and your willingness to acknowledge that and ALSO provide some links to give folks a helping hand.

You are a wonderful person. And I adore you.

Christmas perfume – I wore (wait for it) – ha! You thought I was going to say No5. Well. You. Wuz. Wrong. I wore a vintage (as in almost-treacle) Liz Zorn, Historical Chypre. A most amazing perfume. Longevity goes to 11. Beyond perfection. It was reincarnated as Centennial, for those who might not know the original. Some time down the road I’ll tell you all about it.

Love to you, Jin, Kath and all your kith and kin.

    xoxoxo

    • Portia says:

      Hey Musette,
We all adore you right back.
WOW! Early Liz Zorn! Isn’t she amazing. Not trying for one-upmanship but I bought one of her paintings last year. It sits in pride of place on a hall wall where I pass it multiple times a day and look lovingly at it.
Have a fun new year and 2019 gorgeous.

I have been dying to try LZ’s Historical Chypre! I did not know about the new name, so now I can look for it — yay!

Portia, you and Jin look so beautiful and happy — much joy to you!

I’m visiting North Carolina for the holidays, and it keeps veering between chilly and hot & humid, which is tricksy for picking perfume — when it’s warmer, I’ve worn Safran Troublant and Dilettante, and on the chillier days it’s MFK’s Ciel de GUM and vintage Dioressence.

  • Dina C. says:

Love your gifts, Portia, especially the No 19 flacons! I have that edt one from back in the day and used to buy the refills for it all the time. 🙂 I wore Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose on Christmas Eve, SL Fille en Aiguilles on Christmas Day, Gucci Envy extrait on Boxing Day, and Dame Narcissus today. Hope your holidays continue to be joyful ones!! 😀

  • Maya says:

I spent the last several days testing perfumes. This is one of those rare and wonderful times where I found some terrific ones. Areej Le Dore Indolis is the best night-blooming jasmine I have ever smelled!!! On the negative side, Areej Le Dore Malik Al Taif smells exactly like cow manure. Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck. I’ve also fallen for Jacques Fath’s Fath de Fath, 1993 version. It’s a fruity perfume that actually works for me. And then there’s Guerlain Metallica. Several hours after putting it on I was wondering what smelled so good. It was me. LOL.

  • Tara C says:

I’ve been wearing Nuit de Noël vintage extrait, Chopard Wish, And the World is Yours, and L’Heure de Nuit. Today is Mad Madame by JHAG. My holiday fragrant gifts were the new Wowilla body oil and LADDM & Rose Delight candles by Andy Tauer. You had an awesome Tiffany haul!

    • Kathleen says:

Nice frangrance choices! I love L’Heure de Nuit, my Christmas gift last year. I’m wearing And the World is Yours this evening, recently purchased the 10ml travel bottle while available at Luckyscent. I am really enjoying the orange blossom and it has great sillage and longevity.

    • Portia says:

WOW! You have been wearing the good stuff TaraC,
      Tauer candles!! So flash!
Yes, I was spoiled rotten. It was lovely.

  • Maggiecat says:

I’m wearing Chanel ‘s Paris-Venise, a gift from my husband .I wore it yesterday too .Probably tomorrow as well .Love this scent, love that he, a non-perfume person, bought it for me.

    • Kathleen says:

A wonderful gift Maggiecat! You smell beautiful!

    • Portia says:

Oh, VERY good non-perfumista buying there. Give him a congratulatory hug from me please Maggiecat.
It’s a wonderful fragrance too. I really like the three of them and keep forgetting to grab mine out for wears. Thanks for the reminder.

  • MMKinPA says:

My shirt sleeve smells like Casablanca from testing several days ago – I think a bottle of that would last forever, it’s strong and persistent. Also beautiful. Today wearing 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul which was crowd sourced by the Facebook group- I found a small bottle at Perfumology at the King of Prussia mall and decided it could be a gift from my husband. A nice addition to my amber perfume lineup and of course I love the 30ml bottles.

  • SamanthaL says:

I’m wearing Heeley Cardinal and wishing I wasn’t at work!! I got a Diptyque Opoponax candle for Xmas and I want to go home and snuggle up with it..lol!

  • Kathleen says:

Christmas Day I wore Blocki This Grand Affair, very Shalimar-esque to my nose. Gorgeous and vintage-like. Boxing Day I’m giving Fort & Manle Charlatan sample a whirl!

    • Portia says:

OOOH! Charlatan is one of my favourites. Delicious scent. How did you like it Kathleen?
      Portia xx

      • Kathleen says:

Charlatan is delicious and gorgeous! I love it! Especially the jasmine and the best subtle rose, unlike any floral fragrance. It is described with a pear note. I don’t specifically get that, but do note a little sweet fruit. I received a Fort & Manle Discovery Set for Christmas; super excited about this generous gift and stunning fragrances!

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Yesterday, I gave Le Maroc pour Elle by Andy Tauer a whirl for the first time. Didn’t really like it. Good thing it was a sample and not a full bottle. I haven’t gotten around to picking out something for today though.

  • matty says:

I received a bottle of Guerlain Jardins de Bagatelle as a pressie, so wore that yesterday.
Can’t make my mind up for today.

    • Portia says:

      ahhh Matty,
Such a pretty fragrance. Wear it again!
      Portia xx

      • matty says:

I am very fortunate that my friend and my Grandaughters know of my love of Guerlain.
I also got from my friend a bottle of Lalique Nilange.I might give yjis a whirl today.

  • Brigitte says:

What beautiful fragrances you have picked for your Christmas break , P!

What I have been wearing and will continue to wear all week is St. Clair’s Scent Casablanca which for me is the epitome of chic and glam in its 50 percent concentration of extrait- an unctuous honeyed orange blossom with citrus kisses on a base of animalics….at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I LOVE THIS STUFF…..but I am also working my way through some of my neglected decants so I will mix it up a bit at bedtime and the early hours of the morning…so this morning preshower I am in Chanel Cuir de Russie….post shower back to Casablanca.

    Happy Boxing Day!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Brigitte,
Tonight I thunked a sample of Gucci Envy Woman. I thin k it might have been a bit oxygenated. Over the last hour it’s gaining momentum though, quite nice but not the stellar standout I remember.
      Portia xx

    • Kathleen says:

I am loving my sample of Casablanca. One of the most gorgeous new scents and on my FB wishlist!

      • Brigitte says:

OOO Yay! always love to hear that there are other fans out there! It was on my FB wishlist from the moment I sniffed it 🙂
