Happy MLK Jr. Day to all you wonderful Posse folks! It is cold as all get-out here in my neck of the woods and I’m so happy that my high school senior has the holiday off and won’t have to brave the below-freezing temps. When it gets this chilly, I reach for my fave vanilla scents, the ultimate in warming and comfort.
In the past day or so (and probably tomorrow as well), I’ve been rotating Indult Tihota (prolly one of my top 3 vanilla fragrances), Le Labo Vanille 44 (gotta love that incense vibe), Guerlain’s Spiriteuse Double Vanille, Tom Ford’s Vanilla Fatale and Montale Vanille Absolu. Speaking of the Montale, it’s the closest I’ve come to duplicating Jane Booke’s Taken, which I have found serious love for, but can’t seem to find samples of, and my teensy vial is getting so loooow. Budgetary concerns prevent me from springing for a full bottle, but a decant or another sample or two of this would make my day. Anyone seen this anywhere? Thanks! Some other warm and cozy loves also will find their way onto my skin througout the week, but the heavy-duty vanilla babies are the main players right now.
What about you? Are you a vanilla lover? Or does too much sweetness give you a toothache/headache? If you’re in the midst of winter temps, how are you keeping warm, scent-wise? Or staying cool, if your abode is in the Southern Hemisphere?

A vanilla I wore in the late 80s early 90s is probably my favorite (although I bet it’s been reformulated 20 times over) was the highly affordable Coty Vanilla Fields which I used to buy at my local drugstore. I also really like Atelier Vanille Insensee because it has an extra something in there that takes it beyond vanilla territory. And for straight up yummy Dame Perfumery Black Flower Mexican Vanilla…my middle child is on her second bottle of that one! Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise was lovely (d/c) and Ginger Biscuit (which has excellent longevity for a Jo Malone) and of course one of my all time favorites 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire which does have vanilla as a supporting note….I could wear that one year round it’s that versatile for me. OOO! and one more! Sonoma Scent Studio Winter Woods which wears like a dark vanilla absolute on my skin…I actually enjoy that one in the summer too.
and Tara C reminded me of Mona di Orio Vanille (so unique) and Vanilla Flash (so boozy)….yup, we have those too although my middle child took those back to university ….most of the vanillas I mentioned above are technically her bottles -LOL!
Vanilla is the perfect comfort scent for cold windy days (I’m looking’ at you, today. And yesterday.) I’m enjoying Chanel Venise and Fragonard Grain de Soleil (an amber with cinnamon, really, but gorgeous).
Love to wear vanilla year round in LA, in all its forms except extreme cupcake. The ones I’ve been reaching for the most lately are Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille and Mona di Orio Vanille. Today is cool, sunny and crazy windy and I’m taking anout of town friend on a Pacific Coast Highway adventure. We’ll probably get sand-blasted, but I’ll smell great in the Mona di Orio. It’s astringent herbal opening suits the foothills rolling into the sea.

I do like vanilla perfumes that are not edible. My faves are Havana Vanille, SDV, Shalimar and Vanilla Flash. SDV is probably going to be my next full bottle purchase.
I, too, love vanilla and wear it often once the weather turns cold and miserable, as it often does in London. My faves are Serge Lutens’ Bois de Vanille and Hermes Vanille Galante. When I need an extra bit of comfort, I turn to Teint de Neige, although I get fed up with comments like ‘who’s wearing Johnson’s baby powder?’
LOVE vanilla. Actually this ridiculous weather is making me want to bake something vanilla!
I am a big vanilla fan. Today I’m wearing Vanilla Flash – on our way home from a ski weekend and I have this in rollerball so it’s travel friendly.

It is cold in this neck of the woods too – 9 degrees and falling. I love the smell of vanilla but have not found any vanilla perfume that does it for me and I have tried a lot. I am going to re-sample Memo Lalibela. That might be the one for me. Here’s hoping. I am sampling Xerjoff Allende right now. It has a lot of creamy vanilla and is a bit foody, but lovely. Would not pay their price though.
I just checked IndieScents and they are carrying Jane Booke Taken again – samples (1 1/2 ml) and bottles. (Every time I wanted to try it, they were out.) They are in Canada though and shipping is $6.
Vanillas are very comfortable and Indult Tigota is my favorite. I don’t know about Jane Booke’s Taken. Should I? A special vanilla?
It’s cold where I am as well and I have been spraying ambers often for the cozy warmth. Alahine today, Ambre Russe yesterday.
I loooove vanilla and am wearing Vanilla Flash right now. You’ve mentioned a few of my favourites. I’ll also add Arte Profumi Sucre Noir, Xerjoff Lira, Mazzolari Vaniglia, Micallef Note Vanillée, i Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia di Madagascar, Mona di Orio Vanille and Aedes Cierge de Lune.
