Batucada by L’Artisan Parfumeur

HiHo Perfume Peeps! You all have spring up in the northern hemisphere so I wanted to chat about a long-time favourite scent of mine, Batucada. For some reason this fragrance never gets any chatter. Since it was released I have thought it one of L’Artisans best, even showed it to everyone at ScentSation Chicago in 2014. It’s like L’Artisan dropped it onto our noses in 2011 and almost nobody bothered to even sniff it. I think it’s the name. Batucada is said to be a samba derivative dance from Rio. Even now I get the vowels in the wrong place when I say it and always have to check box or bottle for spelling..

Batucada by L'Artisan Parfumeur

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Lime, Cachaça, Mint
Heart: Tiaré, Ylang-ylang
Base: Sensual skin accord, Sea salt

Lime, mint and alcohol sit in contrast to creamy white flowers in the opening of Batucada. Already the tang of salt gives the whole fragrance an edge. Like a cross between a creamy pine/lime ice block and a margarita.

Like the lively, compact, rhythmical and sensual dance that it is names for Batucada is flamboyant and has excellent projection. Though, when you think it is going to head towards heavily narcotic white flowers, it takes a step back and remains chaste. The lime and salt keep everything in check, a fine balancing act. Lusciousness caged but not repressed.

Batucada is wearable by both sexes. While feeling like a spring/summer staple I have been known to wear it all year round. Perhaps a little too explosive for the office it seems the perfect party or holiday scent. So different from anything else in my wardrobe, wearing it creates a lovely sense of dislocation and fun.

You’ll notice my bottle is the last style. It is my backup bottle because I saw it for a very reasonable price in my mate Greg’s Sale Doc and couldn’t pass up the bargain.

Have you tried Batucada? Are you a L’Artisan fan? What’s your pick?

Howdy, dear! Love Safran and Seville, but never sniffed this one. Is it kind of in the same tropical vibe family as Ananas Fizz? At any rate, must get a sample. Thanks!

  • Neva says:

I have tried Batucada many times. It’s like a summer cocktail – refreshing and slightly sweet. I like the boozy feeling in it.
My favourite L’Artisan is Caligna and Dzing! Caligna soon became my go-to scent while I have to be in a special mood for Dzing!

  • Musette says:

These notes sound SO much up my alley – and yet I cannot recall ever sniffing it (which may be my fault, rather than its fault). I need to remedy that.

I haven’t tried Batucada yet but I love L’artisan. Tea for Two was my first major perfume love and still my favorite…I thought I’d stroke out when it was briefly discontinued. I also wear Dzing consistently throughout the year. I adore Iris Pallida, which I have a bottle of and Fleur de Narcisse, which sadly I do not. Has anyone tried Mont de Narcisse yet? I’m hoping it’s similar enough!!

  • Eldarwen22 says:

I haven’t had a lot of experience with L’Artisan but have tried a few. The few that I have tried left me underwhelmed except for Havana Vanille. I was a little PO’ed that Havana Vanille was discontinued.

  • Millicent says:

I am a huge Batucada fan! It makes me happy, so I save it for summer parties, weekends away, festive occasions generally. Other L’Artisan favorites include Nuit de Tubereuse and Passage d’Enfer.

  • MMKinPA says:

Have not tried this one! I love Seville a l’aube (Decant) and have a bottle of La Chasse (rarely wear). I also just dropped and broke my bottle of Vanille Absolument, but managed to save most of it and decanted into atomizers.

I haven’t tried this one! I love Seville a L’Aube, Saffron Troublant, and Premier Figuier, as well as the sadly discontinued Coeur de Vetiver Sacre. I haven’t been that impressed with the newest stuff they’ve been releasing, but I love the earlier ones!

  • Brigitte says:

I haven’t tried it but it sounds delightful. I have grown to love Saffran Troublant and am currently enjoying Un Air de Bretagne.

  • Robert H. says:

LERRRRVE Batucada (bah-two-CAH-dah) reminds me of working in Brasil in the late 70’s early 80’s. Now I’ve got to dig mine out tomorrow!?

  • Liz says:

I also loved Ananas Fizz and L’Eau du Fleuriste. L’Artisan had a mood coffret years ago. Angry, Happy, etc… Those fragrances were little masterpieces.

I agree, Batucada is one of L’artisan’s best! I really loved Les Hesperides de la grande serre also by L’Artisan! Sadly, Les Hesperides is discontinued!
