Coming soon: Sephora

Hi, dear Posse folks! I just came across some interesting news: A Sephora store will be opening soon in my neck of the woods. Not sure exactly when, but it’s looking like not too much longer now.

I haven’t been to a Sephora in months and months; mostly because the closest one is an hour away and I don’t visit the big city nearly as often as I used to. (Funny, now that DH is off to college and my work sked is very open, you’d think I’d be shopping all the time. But no — college tuition has pretty much done a number on my wallet, ha!)

Anyhoo, I’m looking forward to our Sephora opening because their selection of fragrance, color and skin care is pretty nice. I like that they usually have a cute birthday gift for their members, and I remember loving their great selection of travel/trial size products. And they are (or at least used to be) very good about making samples for you of just about anything.

So please do share with me — what are your favorite items at Sephora? Anything there that you can’t live without?

The Ordinary has very inexpensive skin care, and I’m addicted to their hyaluronic acid.

    Hey there Ann,
I love the idea of Sephora and when I’m in Europe they are the first things I look for, along with Douglas. SO MUCH choice and really friendly SAs.
Here in Oz they are about 200% too loud, too busy staff and the aisles are not wide enough to stop and shop. The whole adventure tends to shoo me out within 5 minutes without a purchase.
Hopefully yours is along the European model.
    Portia xx

Our local Sephora only just started carrying Tom Ford, so there is a glimmer of hope they might branch out.  These days I go in to purchase Tatcha products, and I really really love their exfoliating cleanser.

Is that the rice enzyme one? I love that so much!! Iirc, Patty introduced me to that, and I am now devotee!

Alas, no Sephoras here at all. I can order nice things from Cult Beauty and other onliners. But, if I want ‘the Sephora Experience’ I’ve got to go to Europe. I dote on the Bite Beauty matte lip pencils I bought on my last trip to New York — years ago.

  • Musette says:

Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish foundation (serum-ish, rather than foundation-y) and MakeupForever, bay-bee!  I love MUF’s brow pencil – my brows have no definition whatsoever (and I cannot rock the Grace Coddington look AT ALL! LOL!)  – I love the Sephora vibe, across the board – everybody’s helpful without hovering and I watch people leaving happy!  What’s not to love?

I used to be a huge Sephora fan, until they got way too expensive for me. I shop at Ulta because they have more coupons, sales and prices are much better. I love the Urban Decay Naked line, Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. Sephora used to carry my SkynIceland face stuff but Sephora probably decided that it was too mainstream.

  • March says:

Squeeee!!!  I buy ALL THE THINGS.  The makeup things.  Mostly their perfume doesn’t interest me — it’s funny, the more “niche” and interesting they try to make it, the less interested I am.  NEST fragrances – for people who want to smell like Slatkin candles.

I love the makeup and skincare, they have testers of everything, and if it’s missing they’ll make one.  They take returns on used items.  Also they’re not shilling for a particular brand.  I go to Sephora on dreary days just to hang out and play.

    • Musette says:

I’ve watched your eyes take on a peculiar ‘glow’ when we approach the doors of a Sephora – it’s both fabulous and terrifying to behold!

      xoxo

I never shop at Sephora. The fragrances they carry are mainstream and not anything I would want. I can get the makeup products cheaper on eBay. I got hooked on Bare Minerals at Ulta and buy them for half the price online. I contribute to the demise of physical stores. 🙂

  • Tara C says:

I use the Tatcha enzyme powder face cleanser, very gently exfoliates. Also Fresh tinted lip balms, Kopari coconut deodorant stick, Hourglass powders, Givenchy under eye concealer, Charlotte Tilbury face setting powder and Nars eyeshadow primer. The Tatcha Water Cream moisturizer is nice too. Bite lipsticks and lip masks. Armani or Dior mascara.

    • Musette says:

I LOVE Tacha!  Found it first at Barneys, then Sephora.  That enzyme powder (the rice one, right?) is KILLAH!!!
