La Colle Noire by Christian Dior

Hiya Posse. La Colle Noire is one of the Christian Dior privé line. Although I wish they’d stop bringing out so many fragrances, it’s getting ridiculous. I do like that they are now aiming at a larger cross section of the market. Everyone from the non perfume lover who feels undressed without a spritz to the hard core perfumista feels catered for. Most of the range is fairly easy wear and inoffensive, making it perfect for the youth, work and Asian markets. There are some mid point, more interesting and intense scents. Lastly there are the oud laden heavy hitters that will really have peoples noses standing up and taking notice like Leather Oud. All of them feel beautifully blended, even though some are tragically named.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
May rose absolute, Ceylonese sandalwood, White musk, Spices, Amber

OK, the marketing spiel is all about being in the rose gardens during picking time. Let’s not get carried away here. There’s nothing of the incredibly intense, enveloping, almost claustrophobic heaviness of that. It’s much more next village sniffing. There is air and space to loosen up the density,  much less oppressive.

A sheer, sharp, berry laden, spicy rose opens La Colle Noire. Dewy and chill it is aloof and elegant. Sparkling dewdrops caught in the cool dawn sunlight of late spring and mixed in with the broken greenery of pulling buds during harvest.

There are other notes but all are minor players that bolster the roses supremacy. A simple fruity floral that will float around you for a few hours before collapsing into a very soft focus laundry detergent style sweet florally musk.

Good news. Surrender To Chance have samples.

While this review reads ultra feminine, don’t be fooled gents. I’m thinking it is better on the blokes because it’s so unexpected. Roses smell really good on guys and the addition of berries gives La Colle Noire a sharpness that works nicely for the dudes. My bottle gets quite a bit of skin time (you can see how much air is in my 125ml) and it always fits the mood.

Do you like any of the DIOR Prive line?

Man, this sounds right up my alley… I’d sort of lost track, they release so much. Thanks!

    • Portia says:

      Hey March,
100%, the last few years has been ridiculous at DIOR Prive. They are cutting and pasting the collection like mad. Maybe they’re just seeing what sticks, the market is evolving so rapidly.
Yes, I could totally see you wafting this rosy beauty.

I haven’t tried La Colle Noire

      Hey Matty,
I think you might really like it. there’s a Guerlain-esque beauty to La Colle Noire that might be just your style.

Thanks Portia. I’ll try to get a sniff when I go in to Selfridges. Do you remember quite a while ago I said I couldn’t fing my Idyll ? I’ve now found it… wearing it today….Lovely XX

        • Portia says:

Woo Hoo! I love Idyll Matty. You smell fabulous. Such an interesting fragrance, it doesn’t feel very Guerlain in smell but in construction and glamour it definitely is.
          MMMMMMMMMMM

I have La Colle Noire, as well as Mitzah, Fève Délicieuse, Ambre Nuit, Cuir Cannage, Oud Ispahan and Gris Montaigne. Not so interested in the newer ones, they are pretty weak on me and lack the character the original lineup had.
