Getaway Monday

getawayHowdy, Posse folks! Every year about this time, I feel like I’ve had more than enough cold weather and I drift into getaway/vacation mode, preferably to somewhere warm, sunny and sandy. I’m not wrong to think that most of us (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere) have had our fill of Old Man Winter, especially you folks who have had snow, snow and yet MORE snow over the past few months!

So for me at least, I’m hanging on, week to week, waiting patiently for spring. So let’s take a mental vacation, why don’t we, and transport ourselves elsewhere in our minds via a little beach dreaming. What scents do you wear to conjure up a warm, sunny beach to help you plod through the often dreary, bone-chillingly cold days of February and March?

One fragrance that transports me to the beach of my choice is Kai. It’s not complicated, but that’s the beauty of it: its blend of white flowers, gardenia and green goodness just plain makes me feel good, warm and happy to be alive. Another scent that works along the same comforting lines is Guerlain’s Lys Soleia.

And of course, two obvious choices come to mind: Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess, and the aptly named Bobbi Brown Beach scent. Both broadcast their sunscreen vibe a good bit, but that’s all part of the fun and their appeal, right?

So please do share the fragrances that send you to your choice of sun, sand, and surf, and are helping you cope with winter. Or whatever else helps you keep your sanity until spring arrives.

ha! funny you should be writing about this right now because I JUST put BBrown’s Beach on – it’s grey, cold, and we’re bracing for a possible blizzard this evening. Puerto Vallarta is calling my NAME!

    Hey Ann,
Sorry to be late to the party. Ironically I was on holidays in Koh Samui, Thailand. It was beautiful. Never too hot, a storm each day to cool things down. Spent most of our time relaxing by or in the pool at the Novotel Samui.
Fragrance? I took Ashoka and Niral by Neela Vermeire Creations, Santal Masoia by Hermès and L’Insomnuit by Robert Piguet. The four of them made an excellent cross section for various weathers, heats and events.
Also got to sniff a bunch of new things in airports, that was fun.
    Portia xx

I like the lotion version of Bobbi Brown Beach better than the scent and have used up two bottles of it in years past. I also like L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse as a summer-y beachy scent since I wore it on a beach trip once. It has a spicy, fruity, tropical vibe.

I’ve never been a fan of “beach” or “suntan lotion”-type fragrances, but I do love me some coconut scents. Today I am wearing L’Artisan Premier Figuer Extreme layered with Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coco Extreme. It is snowing here 🙁

I’ve been reading every Posse post for years and rarely comment. But it’s always disappointing to see one of Anne’s recycled posts, copied almost verbatim from previous years. Perhaps it’s better not to post at all or allow more airtime to the bloggers that do make an effort.

    • March says:

Really? I view these as a variant on the SOTD posts and similar recurring topics, where people get a chance to talk about fragrance that interests them at that moment in time. The appearance of Ann’s seasonal post this time of year, like my daffodils, reminds me spring is on the way.

I’ve not read every single post, so for readers like me, I get to enjoy a post that I’ve missed.

CB I Hate Perfume’s At The Beach 1966. I tried a sample recently. My husband asked “Did you put on Coppertone?”

I just bought a fragrance called Sunsuality from Pierre Guillaume that has notes of lemon, kumquat, ginger, lemon flowers, sandalwood and white musk. The SA recommended it to me when I asked for a fragrance to remind me of a Maui vacation. I think it smells like the sea in the sun.

Funny you should mention the Estee Bronze Goddess — I’m about 90% sure I have a bottle of that and I can’t find it. I’m really in the mood for something beachy like that. Bobbi Beach I liked at first but it’s got this synth-hairspray thing going on that ultimately gets on my nerves. I have a big ol’ (cheap!) jar of coconut oil that I keep decanted by the tub for post-shower application and that always gives me a bit of a vacation vibe.
