SOTD 3.4.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 3.4.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Last night I sprayed LOADS of Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur. Woke up this morning in a soft cloud of rosy amber gorgeousness.
Over the top of those remnants I’ve given myself a couple of blasts of DIOR Mitzah. Perfect for our grey, cool and lightly spitting rainy day.

  • Brigitte says:

Tomorrow I intend on wearing Natura Amour America Paramela in honor of Tara C’s birthday. I love this fragrance. It’s a hidden gem no one ever talks about. The shape of the bottle is unusual too and it fits perfectly in my very petite hand.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Ormonde Jayne Tolu today. One of the perfumes that I pretty much ran gagging from the first time I tried it. Something about it make me want to try it again and again until I seemed to fall in love with it. Now I breathe it in and enjoy it so much and can’t understand my first reaction at all

  • Cassieflower says:

Drenched in AG Quel Amour. The beautiful weather calls for this sparkly, fruity gem.

  • Brigitte says:

    Gucci by Gucci EDP
    Sweet honeyed musk

    • Portia says:

      In the brown bottle?

      • Brigitte says:

The bottle is indeed brown. But it’s not the original Gucci which I had back in the day with the brown juice and super hefty glass bottle. This bottle is rectangular with a gold chain hanging from the sprayer. It has a gold cap. I am shocked at how great it smells on me in warmer weather. My skin seems to wear winter fragrances much better in the heat, apparently. I can also smell the creamy tiara.

        • Brigitte says:

And if I ever get back to work this will make a perfect late spring and early summer office scent.

  • Portia says:

    SOTBed: Arabie by Serge Lutens.
Rich honeyed resins and stuff, smells mighty good.

  • Brigitte says:

    Bvlgari Voile de Jasmine

  • Cassieflower says:

DK Gold. Countless sprays. This is definitely one of my desert island perfumes.

    • Portia says:

      Cassieflower,
I’ve got the EdT and EdP of this beauty. remember when it was on sale for nearly nothing? Much harder to find nowadays.
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

Yep. I’ve got both as well. A few bottles in fact. I didn’t make the mistake of letting it disappear from my life. And got them for a steal.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

I adore lilies, so I love DK Gold too. Do you have other lily favourites?

  • Melanie says:

Working from home so sampling at same time.
Left is Eau D’Italia Morn to Dusk – a fresh little musky number. Right is DS & Durga Mississippi Medicine – was expecting something louder. getting pencil shavings and a whiff of the woods.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Melanie,
LOVE Morn to Dusk, when the vanilla kicks in it’s a crunchy caramelised one. OOOHHHHeeeeee, so good.
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

Will hang on to Morn to Dusk for another spin then. Squeezing in a couple more samples before the day is out. Vanilj by Maya Njie – a lovely, soft earthy scent. A variety of Histoires perfumes on the right arm – 1969 and 1826. trying to get out every last spray…

  • Cassieflower says:

Fougere Bengale. It’s Monday. Why not?

    • Portia says:

OMG! Cassieflower, Fougere Bengale is amazing. I don’t know why it doesn’t get more wear around here. Yummy.
      Curried resins and smoke. MMM
      Portia xx

  • Brigitte says:

Berdoues Grand Cru Selva do Brazil. Love those bottles of the entire grand cru collection.

  • Portia says:

Last night when I went to bed I wore lashings of Creed Fantasia de Fleurs. What a way to drift off. Big overblown, jammy roses and stuff. Excellent.
This morning to go shopping and get a haircut I’m wafting Granville by Dior. So gorgeous.
    Portia xx

    • Cassieflower says:

You mean that barbers and hairdressers are still open for business there?

      • Brigitte says:

I was thinking the same thing!! You and Marcella have seen my hair recently LOL….in desperate need of cut and color!!

        • Portia says:

Buzz cut it like Val the Cookie Queen and me Brigitte.

          • Brigitte says:

            Oh
            My
            God

            Could you imagine??
            I would do it!!
But the Marzipan clan would kill me!

        • Cassieflower says:

I was really lucky that I was sitting in the hairdressers chair on the very morning that everything started to close down. I’d be cutting out the dreadlocks myself otherwise. I had a good swipe of four or five inches off it. That’s me sorted for another few months. Pleeeeze let us be getting back to some normality by then.

      • Portia says:

Yes, hair is an essential service here in Australia. I was starting to look like no one owned me so I’m really glad.
        I wish pedicures were too.
        Portia xx

  • Amy says:

Late to the party but wanted to give a virtual wave Portia! Today I wore Dilettante and smelled, if I may say so , amazing.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Amy,
Nice to see you anytime of the week.
Hiram Green makes some spectacular fragrances. He’s like the modern cool kid of “natural” perfumery.
      Portia x

  • Melanie says:

L’Art Noir Exquis today, coz i’m feeling a bit low. So many emotions and thoughts – am so glad i still have a job yet so sad for all those that do not. Missing my ‘pretend -kids’ (nieces and nephews) like crazy – calling/face time twice a week is just not the same as seeing their smiling faces in the real. On a better note, I’ve decided the Easter long weekend will be a perfect time to tidy up my scent shelf – maybe even write them all up in pretty notebook.
sending scented hugs to anyone that wants one x

  • SonomaVelvet says:

In Lys 41 today. I’m shocked at how quickly I’m starting to get used to perfumes that I’ve sprayed with abandon. I’m thinking of going back to the strategy of less sprays at one time and more frequently. It’s not the strength of the perfume it seems but the tricks I need to do to keep my nose from getting used to them. Very interesting.

  • Cassieflower says:

Continuing to test out Shay & Blue discovery box. Today it’s White Peaches. It does exactly what it says on the tin. This one is gorgeous. Gonna need a travel spray of it.

  • Brigitte says:

    Change of plans.
After my crazy thunkination all week I am putting sampling on hold to wear some of the lovelies I was given by my APJ crew.
On the white shelf in the bedroom is Sunday, Cassis en Feuille, Amour America Paramela, Pure eVe and Selva do Brazil.
Today is Sunday so that’s what I am wearing.

    • Portia says:

PURE EVE!! Freaking gorgeous Brigitte. When I start buying perfume again a FB is definitely on my list.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

Ha yes! It’s a beauty, eh? I am on my second large decant, a gift from Kathleen.

  • Portia says:

Tonight I had the hottest, bubbliest bath. It was GORGEOUS!
Now I’m a cloud of Kiehl’s Original Musk, lotion and perfume. It’s freaking gorgeous and very price conservative. It smells perfect to me.
    Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

      Hi Portia
I’ll have to give that one another chance whenever things calm down and I can go to a store that has it again. I only smelled it once and recoiled in horror haha.

      • Portia says:

HA HA HA! That’s hilarious. It may not be to your taste Sonomavelvet. I find it a cozy, sweet, friendly version of the MKK and Musc Ravageur beasts.
        Portia xx

  • Sonomavelvet says:

Yesterday I wore Amouage Jubilation. I don’t wear it often and forgot about it through the day and kept getting wafts of amber incense goodness making me think, ‘why don’t I wear this more often?’ Oh yes, because in my mind, it’s ‘too strong’ for everyday life, but this isn’t everyday life so I can blast away.
Today I’ve 4 sprays, (a lot for me) of Une fleurs de Cassie on one side and Geranium pour Monsiour on the other. MMMMMMMmmmm. Cool on one side and luscious warmth on the other.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Sonomavelvet,
Geranium pour Monsieur was my first Malle FB. I still love it and it gets regular wears in the heat.
Jubilation is another I love but haven’t finished a 5ml decant. Thanks for the reminder.
      Portia xx

  • Brigitte says:

I’ve thunked about 15 or more sample vials this week. I just dump one on each wrist twice a day. The neck gets lashing of Gimme.
I will continue this way for the upcoming week.

    • Portia says:

OMG! Brigitte, you are a freaking machine.
That’s amazing. You must be FULLY FRAGRANT.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

        Hahaha, I was !!!!
I went even more berserk yesterday dumping vials on my bathrobe. This morning I smell remnants of Pure Distance Gold and Kilian Rolling in Love. I also thunked all of my Menditterosa samples and all of my Heeley. I am happy to say I need none in full bottle 🙂

  • Melanie says:

Limited Saturday errands in Zoologist Camel.

    • Sonomavelvet says:

Hey Melanie. I like Camel too. Do you find it reminds you of Hermes Ambre Narguile?

      • Melanie says:

I’ve not sniffed Hermes Ambre Narguile – will put it on my ‘wish to sniff’ list. I’m new to Zoologist scents but have fallen madly in love with Camel.

        • Portia says:

Ambre Narguile is one of the all time greats Melanie, animalic amber and sweet pie. Nothing else is quite like it (I haven’t tried Camel though).
          Portia xx

  • Ann says:

Hi! Warmed up a chilly morning today with a dab o’ Amouage Beloved Woman and MFK’s Ciel de Gum (on different wrists). Then later in the day went with Arquiste’s Boutonniere and Olivine’s gardenia scent. Take care, everyone!

    • Portia says:

OOOOH! Ann, you are smelling super fine. I love that the Posse is wearing entirely different samples on each wrist currently. So good for helping to keep you aware of what’s happening on each side.
      Portia xx

  • Maggiecat says:

Today was full of work and Zoom meetings, so I wore a favorite, Chanel ‘s Deauville.

  • Metaphortunate says:

I’m trying out a sample of Jorem Phloem. It smells like a curry made with cumin and green apple Jolly Ranchers.

    • Portia says:

      WOW M,
That sounds like it could be amazing or terrible. Which way did it swing?
      Portia xx

      • Amy says:

Wonder what M thinks. For me it was the one Jorum Studies perfume from that line that I absolutely hated. I loved or liked the others a lot.

  • MMKinPA says:

Copious amounts of Seville a l’Aube from a decant (also have a small travel spray). Thinking I ought to have a full bottle. But, no-buy year! Stress reliever: 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. Will not admit how many I have done since we closed our school.

    • Queen-Cupcake says:

I have a full bottle of this. If you would like a generous decant of it, let me know. I love it but don’t wear it much.

    • Portia says:

You are the second person that has talked to me about Seville a l’Aube today MMKinPA. I think it must be a sign. It’s on my regular rotation tray and needs a spritz later tonight.
      Portia xx

  • Queen-Cupcake says:

Wearing Queen of Spades Absolu edp, from the Opera Collection 1890 by Histoires de Parfums. If I had discovered this one earlier in my perfume-collecting days, I would have just bought a couple of full bottles of this and stopped right there! It is heady, gorgeous, and for me, the right balance between spices, florals and incense.

I cribbed this from my favorite decant seller’s site: “1890 Queen of Spades is named for the Tchaikovsky opera La Dame de Pique … It features top notes of coriander, pepper and orange blossom; middle notes of rose and jasmine; and base notes of patchouli, leather, incense, amber and musk…”

Watching: The English Game on Netflix. Patrick Melrose on Amazon Prime.

    • Portia says:

      Hey QC,
Do you wear Queen of Spades Absolu a lot? Has it become a bit of a signature?
      How is The English Game?
      Portia xx

      • Queen-Cupcake says:

Portia, I haven’t worn Queen of Spades a lot, only having just discovered it but I think I will need to buy more! It is exactly the kind of thing that could be a signature.
The English Game is wonderful. Beautifully shot, written, acted and directed. A story of class conflict, romance and personal triumph over adversity. XO

  • Annabel Farrell says:

Nanban by Arquiste. Dithering over whether to get an fb of it or Bois d’Ascese…

    • Portia says:

I’m a sucker for Naomi Goodsir Annabel, her fragrances are beautiful.
      Portia xx

    • Amy says:

I put in another vote for Bois d’Ascese. I have both it and Nanban and find the other sort of wearying after a while. Bois d’Ascese, never! But everyone’s different!

  • matty1649 says:

    Avon Mesmerize Mystique Amber.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Matty,
      Sadly Avon has left Australia.
I quite liked the perfume they did with Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.
      Portia xx

  • Filomena says:

Today I am wearing Francesca Bianchi’s “The Dark Side”

  • Cassieflower says:

Binged watched 5 episodes of Tiger King last night. You couldn’t make the characters up. Bonkers.

    • Queen-Cupcake says:

I’m intrigued by this one…it’s getting a lot of buzz. Only thing I want to know: does it show animals being treated cruelly?

    • Portia says:

EVERYONE seems to be watching Tiger King Cassieflower,
I saw the trailer and couldn’t bring myself to watch more. Are you telling me I should?
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

I will say that it elicits strong reactions. The characters are so preposterous that it’s rather hard to credit that they’re not fictional. Nobody comes out of it covered in glory, that’s for sure.

        • Portia says:

Will I spend the whole time cringing and wishing for surcease? It seems like these are the people I consciously cut out of my life at the first opportunity?
          Portia x

      • Amy says:

I am pointedly and devoutly ignoring it, probably because everyone is watching it. And I hate to think about those cats.

  • Cassieflower says:

Black Tulip (Shay & Blue) lovely plummy jam. With creamy white chocolate. Delicious, and totally unisex.

  • cinnamon says:

Le Labo Patchouli 24. Quite dark (all that birch tar — had to dig around box to find dark). Feeling dark perfume as have been watching bits of Only Lovers Left Alive on YouTube (March’s enabling — see Tuesday post).

    • Portia says:

      Heya Cinnamon,
Oh yes, the things we read on Perfume Posse from contributors and commenters give SO MANY ideas. Love you’re having a dark moment, enjoy it.
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

I found an old 10ml decant of Miss Dior vintage EdC. It had dried out to about 2ml. I spritzed it all on at once and am currently sitting in a cloud of magic. Basically it’s become an extrait strength, so thick and ropey.
    MMMMMMMMM
    Ah May Zing.

  • Carolyn says:

Tonight I’ve been wearing Nui Cobalt Designs She Stopped to Pet a Bumblebee from their Bees Collection. Really enjoy the dry down. Description from the website: An ode to the living spirit of compassion. Cocoa butter and shea, cotton flower, silk tree, apple blossom, wildflower honey, bee balm, and heliotrope. Wear this scent to conjure an atmosphere of loving kindness and receptivity.
