SOTD 5.6.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 5.6.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Highlights so far from my samples received – 4160 Tues Rome and ELDO Afternoon of a Faun. Wearing Gallivant Amsterdam in earnest today but its just not hitting the spot, which is a shame to me as its a lovely floral woody scent.

  • Carolyn says:

Another day in the forest. Today it’s LVNEA Hemlock Shade (hemlock absolute, black spruce, sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver root, birch, fir needle) and Amber Forest (poplar buds, golden fossilized amber resin, Peru balsam, labdanum resin). Very different, but both beautiful in their own way. Hemlock Shade is dark and resinous and Amber Forest is warm and bright. I’m loving exploring all these resinous trees with LVNEA.

Went and collected 2 x 200ml Le Lion de CHANEL today for splitting on the weekend. It was QUITE an outlay. My heart was softly palpitating. Especially nerve wracking when it’s for other people, was so careful and gentle with the bag.
While there I tried on the new JPG Le Male, with the modesty fig leaf. I loved the opening but the dry down has something that really doesn’t agree with me in it. Not awful, just awkward and uncomfortable to my nose. maybe it needs some getting used to.

Wearing a little TF Sahara Noir today while I wait impatiently for a little parcel from LKNU to arrive. Ordered a bunch of samples – Eight & Bob Egypt, couple Carner Barcelona and Gallivant and few more ELDO’s.

    • Portia Turbo says:

I loved Eight & Bob Egypt Melanie,
There’s a Sahara Noir bottle here. I’m too scared to open it. Just looking at the unopened cellophane makes me quiver with excitement.
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

yesterday doing a super quick sample of Egypt i didnt love it – it reminded me of something else. will give it proper try and see if i think differently. Open the Sahara Noir Portia xx

        • Portia says:

HA! One day I may open Sahara Noir, right now it gives me more than enough pleasure just to own it. Yeah, 100% crazy, but I’ll take my joys wherever they come.
          Portia xx

  • Portia says:

I didn’t wear fragrance yesterday. No reason. I looked at the tray and thought it might be nice to give my nose a rest for 24 hours.
Today I felt like wearing a fresh spring thing. Se Majeste Le Rose by Serge Lutens. A green, crisp, broken leaf and dewy bloom rose, austere yet pregnant with anticipation. Hiding down the back is something sweaty and a little dark, could be the gardener!
    Portia xx

  • Carolyn says:

Another LVNEA hit today, Ghost Pine. Pine Needles, Wet Leaves, Moss, and Wood are the fragrance notes. So far all of LVNEA’s pine notes actually smell like pine and not eye watering pine sol products on my skin. I’m betting it’s because they are a natural perfumer. I’m so thrilled to find some pine scents that I can actually wear. This one immediately went on my to be full sized list.

Also wearing LVNEA L’Alchemie (Blood Orange, Amber, Citrus, Rose). It’s pretty, especially at drydown. I’m so in love with LVNEA’s forest scents I’m having trouble focusing my nose on perfumes from their other scent families.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Amouage Jubilations 25 woman. hmmmm, I think I remember why I don’t wear this very often. I think I need to be in the mood, and thought I was in the mood but apparently not, and it’s a loooong ride.

  • Carolyn says:

Testing two pretty amazing and very different samples today. Del Ray by Alpha Musk has 2 kinds of jasmine, surrounded by Egyptian musk and marshmallow. The slightly indolic jasmines are reading a bit bubblegum on me, but in this case it gives the perfume a playful feel. Have a full bottle on order that with any luck will arrive in next 2 weeks. A kind perfumista decanted a bit of all her LVNEA perfume stash so I could try a wide selection of their perfumes. I’m immensely grateful as I know how much work that was. Today I’m wearing Forêt Dormante. I am amazed by the strength and realistic notes of this perfume. It’s absolutely beautiful! Notes are cypress, olibanum, violet leaf, oakmoss, pine. Often pine goes pine sol on my skin but not this one! This smells like the pine forest I’ve been remembering and searching for in a perfume! And price is very reasonable for a natural perfumer ($85USD for 30ml) so I have a feeling I’m going to be full sizing a bunch of the LVNEA samples if they all work this well for me.

    Truth or Dare.

  • Paul says:

Incensum / Mizensir for me today… dry dry woods for a perfectly chilly day – my wrist winds up planted under my nose the entire time… a perfect incense.

  • Melanie says:

Imaginary Authors ‘Memoirs of a Trespasser’ for me today. On me a woody vanilla. Smoothly comforting.

    • Portia Turbo says:

I really like the Imaginary Authors that I’ve tried. Indie Frags done just weird enough but never lose sight that they need to smell good.
      Portia xx

  • Carolyn says:

I love eating chocolate. I hate chocolate notes in perfume. Often ends up being a scrubber. So imagine my surprise when I put on BPAL Sixth Lash (red leather, chocolate and black pepper) and VERY tentatively lifted up my wrist to sniff and actually LIKED what I smelled? Gobsmacked!! In this instance, chocolate is slightly detectable but just deepens/enriches the scent. I might actually search out another sample when I finish this one. I almost gave this one away unsniffed when it came into my possession unbidden!

  • Portia Turbo says:

Tried Le Lion by CHANEL today.
    BLOODY amazing.
It’s like CHANEL finally remembered how to make perfume.
    Portia xx

    • Carolyn says:

I really need to seek out a sample of this one!

    • Paul says:

Ohh where did you get to sample it Portia? The boutiques don’t have it here yet in Melbourne I believe

      • Portia says:

        Hey Paul.
No, it will be released worldwide in Jan 2021. Only available in Paris ands Dubai I’ve heard. City Perfume has advance stock from Dubai.
        YAY!

  • Cassieflower says:

Alien Essence Absolu kicking off another week. Painting the kitchen and it’s puffing nice clouds with every movement.

  • Ariel says:

It’s Junuary in Portland- so I’m wearing Winter Woods from Sonoma Scent Studio. Just watched the last episode of the new She-Ra. Battling depression. Watching my kid have some amazing adventures with her unicorn toys. Anticipating a delicious pie coming out of the oven soon.

    • Melanie says:

Ariel, what kind of pie? I baked my first sponge cake yesterday and it turned out delicious. Hope your pie is yum xx

      • Ariel says:

Savory! Lamb, sweet potato, and cranberry.

Yummmmmm, sponge cake. Make me want to pull out a rum perfume.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

More rain coming down doing my watering for me. Instead of warm and cozy to go with the chilly damp day I’ve just gone for swooning gorgeousness with Carnal Flower. Heaven.

  • Portia Turbo says:

Making a sample for a buddy and decided to give myself a drenching too.
    Arabian Wood by Tom Ford.
It smells very vintage on me tonight, like an old school oak mossy chypre. YUM!
    Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Love old school oak mossy, but completely missed this one. Every time I go to check out Tom Ford I keep getting drawn over and over to my favs, Shanghai Lily, and Plum Japonais, and forget to check out many others. Probably because when I do start smelling lots of others many of them sort of register as ‘meh’ to me and I think about how much they are for that ‘meh’ and smell my darlings again and go away from the perfume counter.

      • Portia Turbo says:

HA! You know, most of them are really top heavy and collapse within an hour.
I have a few TFs but the two I really love are Patchouli Absolu and Ombre de Hyacinth (which takes only 20 minutes to collapse but the 20 minutes are DIVINE!)

    • Carolyn says:

What old school oak moss heavy perfumes (vintage and new) do I need to seek out? I love oak moss and need some serious oak moss bombs!

  • Carolyn says:

Wearing Hexannacht Moon (smoked vanilla, frankincense, Peru balsam, labdanum, amber, vetiver, Atlas cedarwood, patchouli, and night musk) and Nicotine (freshly cut tobacco, rum-dipped cigarillos, cacao Shisha, vanillic vape clouds). Definite preference for Moon. I really love the way Hex uses incense notes and I adore smoked vanillas. Moon is just gorgeous! I’m struggling with the chocolate in Nicotine. This tobacco scent would totally be my jam if it wasn’t for the detectable chocolate. I love eating chocolate but just don’t like wearing it on my skin. The chocolate note seems be fading quickly so if it doesn’t come back this will at least be wearable for me.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Sounds very intriguing Carolyn. Those notes for Moon sound likes lots of bottom. Makes me wonder if it would smell like a cross between OJ’s Tolu and Mona’s Vanille

      • Carolyn says:

Haven’t smelled either of those two but this is definitely base notes heavy! 🙂

  • Melanie says:

This afternoon, using up my sample ELDO Noel au Balcon. It’s beating Tom of Finland in my sample battle.

    • Portia says:

HA! I love a sample throw down Melanie. Tom of Finland is such a soft spoken fragrance on me, very beautiful but not strong.
      Portia xx

    • SonomaVelvet says:

ELDO samples were around my town a while back and I didn’t take sufficient advantage of them when I could and now they are harder to find for some reason. The notes for Noel au Balcon sound like something I’d love. If I ever get a change to check that one out I will.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Cold and rainy weather again. Decided to snuggle up in some hoarded Boyfriend before I head out to the market. I’ve heard that they brought it back but I’ve also heard that it’s not the same. Anyone around here tried the new version?

    • Portia says:

      BOYFRIEND!
You know it didn’t even come to Australia that I saw. Got a decant and loved it, then it was gone.
      Portia xx

      • SonomaVelvet says:

I don’t know why I finally decided to try it because I was even more snobby back then than I am now and it was a celebrity scent ya know? But I’ve never smelled anything else quite like that mix of plummy spicy sweet vanilla amber yumminess and I’ve sure tried. It’s been one of my most complimented perfumes. People come in for a hug and let out a groan of pleasure like they’re coming home.

  • Dina C. says:

I was at Arielle’s happy hour Sniffa, too. Fun! I saw March and Musette. Missed seeing Portia and Kathleen. I’m wearing Gin Fizz today, loved it so much.

    • Kathleen says:

I loved Gin Fizz most of all the alcoholic perfumes sampled. It is citrus with aldehydes and lightly floral. Love it!

    • Portia says:

      Hi there DinaC,
BUMMER! Sorry I was so late allowed in. Next time hopefully. Wasn’t it a fun thing to do?
      Portia xx

  • Melanie says:

Jil, by Jil Sander for me today. Errands and then some op-shopping for some new shirts for work. A super nice spicy musk.

    • Portia says:

OOOH! Love to Op-Shop. Did you find anything good?
      Portia x

      • Melanie says:

I was on a mission for new shirts for work and found quite a few. I also love polka dots so happy to have found a pink and grey polka dot shirt. Got 6 shirts in total for around the price of 2.

  • Portia says:

This afternoon Jin went for a Golf Lesson and I wandered through Officeworks and King Furniture. Tell you what, they’re having a BIG sale at King Furniture. If I was earning as usual we would have had 12 new dining chairs, they were freaking gorgeous. Simple design but so comfortable and upholstered in a slubby tricolour black, grey, white marled wool that would hide stains for decades.
Then I went and did the butcher shopping. It was surprisingly good value. 24 beef sausages, 6 pork chops, 6 crumbed chicken schnitzel and a medium corned beef for only AUD$89. About US$55.
It was nice to wander around for an hour in Arabie by Serge Lutens. It’s such a textural fragrance, so many layers.
    Portia xx

  • Carolyn says:

After Arielle’s sniffie happy hour I have 4 more perfumes I want to buy….I hope she does this again soon but my wallet would prefer that I not participate. 🙂

  • Ariel says:

Can someone nudge Arielle to let me into the meeting?I’ve been waiting for thirty minutes and have e-mailed with no success…

  • Carolyn says:

Wearing Possets Alabama (Alabama weaves pink fizzy mimosa, thick white magnolia, canebrake jasmine, Mexican tuberose and Martinique gardenia) on inside of one elbow and Possets The Girls Love Vanilla (supersaturated honey soaked vanilla) on the inside of the other elbow. Both of them are quite amazing. May need full bottles of both when I’m done with the samples. Prefer The Girls Love Vanilla at dry down rather than at wet stage on skin.

Also have drydown stage of Hexannacht Exorcist and Prehnite on inside of each wrist. Prehnite (black sage, california sagebrush, golden amber, dark amber, white amber, white cedar, palo santo, sweetgrass, cedar, sandalwood, Egyptian musk, frankincense, myrrh, dark patchouli, saffron, vetiver, agarwood, smoldering incense) edged out Exorcist (church incense, labdanum, golden copal, and religious tomes) in that perfume battle. Full bottle of Prehnite is in my future.

  • Musette says:

I’m BEYOND BORING today! I spent the morning supervising my two young Yard Lads (12 yrs old) who were ripping up sod, so the only thing I was awash in was Jean Nate and sweat.

Now off to shower and prep for Arielle’s Happy Hour sniffa. I’m making up a pitcher of cucumber/elderflower martinis in honor of!

    xoxox

    • Kathleen says:

Arielle’s happy hour was fun! Good perfume sniffing! I saw March and Portia, didn’t see you but glad you were there. xx

    • Portia says:

GAH! Can’t believe I missed you Musette at Arielle’s.
      BUM!

  • SonomaVelvet says:

I can’t believe I forgot to put perfume on today. All I’m smelling is the remnants of yesterday’s Miriam and the Lilacs in my vase. So I get to think of what I’m going to wear today, yay. I read about Hiram’s new perfume coming out, it sounds fantastic doesn’t it. Ok, there I go, in honour of Hiram Green on will go a couple of precious last drops of Shangri la

  • Amy says:

It’s rainy and damp here today so wearing Bengale Rouge, which is extremely cozy, among other things.

  • matty1649 says:

I needed something fresh so it’s Guerlain Vetiver.

  • Cathleen E. Newsham says:

Sampling Monstera by Xinu. Really interesting and the bottle is a gorgeous contemporary design. I think I may have to purchase!

  • Portia says:

Scotty came over tonight. We were hoping to do Arielle’s ZOOM meeting but it’s not on till later. Fingers crossed I’m outta bed.
Wearing original Oleg cassini that scotty brought over and Futur by Piguet,
    I smell FABULOUS!
    Portia xx

    • Kathleen says:

I’m doing Arielle’s ZOOM meeting, which you were going be there! I can’t imagine what the time difference would be for you though from OZ.

      • Musette says:

ooh! fun! I’ll be there, Kathleen – I’ll channel my Inner Portia! xoxox

        • Kathleen says:

Glad you were there, it was fun right? I think perfume people are amazing. And so many perfume people are animal lovers! I hope The Girl was by you side!

      • Portia says:

I got there for the last 15 minutes. Poor Arielle, she left me in the waiting room. It was really good to see so many people there.
        MUSETTE! I missed you.
        Saw March though.
        Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

    Franck Boclet Cocaine. Superb.

    • Portia says:

One of my besties is CRAZY for Franck Boclet Cocaine Cassieflower. I don’t think she’s brought it over for sniffs yet.

  • Cinnamon says:

Zoologist Bee on one wrist, Hiram Green Slowdive on the other. Bee is softer, gentler, but with a nice weird honey kick (it smells like a bee made it rather than being some sieved, mass produced stuff). I prefer Slowdive, though. Which is harsher, wilder, more like the honey being made in the hive (ie, there’s some bee sweat there) than bottled after being taken from the bees.

    • Carolyn says:

Ohhhhh…well now I have to hunt down a sample of Slowdive for sure!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cinnamon,
      Slowdive is AMAZING!
I’m so excited to smell Hiram’s newest one., I think lilac is the feature note.
      Portia xx

      • Amy says:

Hi Portia, I hope all is well. Violet! Which is one of my absolute favorite notes and I am so excited for this one. With carnation and then orris and other things. It is like my fantasy Hiram Green production.

    • Cathleen E. Newsham says:

I did that same Bee / Slowdive test a few days ago. I liked them both and had a similar reaction. I think Bee is more of a daytime / Spring Summer scent and Slowdive more sultry evening Fall Winter scent.
