Barkhane by Teo Cabanel

Hi Posse. Teo Cabanel is a lovely French brand that seems to have become a little forgotten lately. I have a few of their bottles and they send to the world very reasonable. They also have a fabulous Sample Set that comes with a Discount Coupon for its price against your first purchase. March loves Alahine and I will come back soon and review it for you all. I reviewed Julia on Perfume Posse a while ago too. Today I thought you might like to come sniff their 2013 release, Barkhane, with me.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot
Heart: Geranium, Cumin, Curry
Base: Cistus, Vetiver, Myrrh, Vanilla, Oud, Indonesian patchouli, Immortelle, Tonka bean, Musk

As you can see, my Barkhane bottle is a little older. It looks banged up but that’s the photo. No idea why it did that, in real life it’s perfect. I paid retail for it and wish I’d bought the 100ml.

Barkhane by Teo Cabanel

Resins and curry jump out at me on immediate first spritz. The curry is short-lived but photo realistic, every time I spritz it’s a big surprise. Who would ever have thought it would work in fine fragrance? A jolt to wake up my olfactory bulb, works every time. Suddenly I’m paying very close attention to what comes next.

The heart is a very interesting melange. Patchouli takes the lead and that weird assed immortelle that is like honeyed hay and a vanilla heavy amber.Suddenly, after about 30 minutes the fragrance stops being challenging and becomes the most comfortable, warm and cozy amber. Beautiful, elegant, calm and lovely. Barkhane smells like a hug. It stays that way. Pumping out a simple but lovely amber that then goes on small journeys through to dry down.

If I was to sex this I’d say unisex leaning masculine but TOTALLY wearable by both. Longevity is excellent and after the initial fireworks village and projection are close to moderate.

I’m wondering how many of you have tried fragrances from the house Teo Cabanel? Does Barkhane sound good?

The look of perfume bottles is gorgeous. Brands may focus on custom boxes . It is very important and it is the only way customer could know the details of the brand.

  • Tara C says:

I have Alahine, Oha and Julia, as well as Cafe Cabanel. Wish I could find my sample of Barkhane. I think it’s a really nice, under-rated house.

      Hey TaraC,
Yeah, I don’t know why they are more talked about. Their fragrances are so beautiful, and wearable.

I don’t know the line very well (they were ‘radar-adjacent’) but I love this lyrical review, Portia. Reading the notes, it doesn’t sound like a scent for me – but ya nebber know 😉

This sounds very interesting, as does Alahine. None of my usual go-to shops stock TC. Will have to look at their website.

  • March says:

I ADORE Alahine. Thanks for this post — you helped me choose my SOTD! It’s cold and blustery, perfect day for Alahine, and a reminder I need to do some more sampling of Teo Cabanel.

I bought a sampler set from them several years ago after Cafe Cabanel came out. I really thought I would love it based on the notes but just coudn’t sync with it or any of the others. JE NE SAIS QUOI from the new Expressions line interests me to try and I really really want one of their red leopard scarves! https://teo-cabanel.com/collections/accessoires/products/foulard-en-soie?variant=31248056713305

Alahine is a true love for me – I had a newer bottle (like yours) but sold it when I found an original formula (clear glass) bottle. I have sampled all of the older offerings – love Barkhane, Lacr Garden. Won a Cafe Cabanel sample in a giveaway – it’s on my buy list. Would love to try the newest options – it’s a shame they aren’t distributed more widely, but I did have a good experience buying from their site and shipping from France.

I’ve tried these and own full bottles of Early Roses, Oha and Julia. Meloe, Kasar and Oha are my faves. I got my bottles years ago when they sold for under $20. Sigh. The days of bargains that are no more.

My first buy from Teo Cabanel a while back was Alahine. Recently, I have purchased two of their newest ones…OO La La and Je Ne Sais Quoi. I am planning on adding Barkane and Cafe Cabanel in the near future.

a lovely phrase (which I read in your original comment as you intended) – I’m sure it’s a financial decision to pump out as many perfumes as most Houses do – but I wish it weren’t so. It’s the equivalent of binge-watching for me and I quickly get exhausted. xoxoxo

I love Teo Cabanel! I started with Alahine, still a favorite, and went on to Barkhane which I wore yesterday. I highly recommend Lace Garden (and the matching Candle), one of the few florals I truly enjoy. One summer I sprang for Hegoa, Julia and Early Roses. I’m surprised by how often I reach for Hegoa in the summer. When I’m feeling “Meh” and undecidely looking for this or that, I wind up with that one–happily. I’m looking forward to getting my mitts on the latest Cafe Cabanel. This is a great perfume house and I like the slow and thoughtful piece of their creations, the quality, and “wearability.”
