Layering Roses: Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Hey there Posse! Layering Roses. This evening Jin put up a new Fanaway fan in a spare bedroom. I often use this room when our schedules don’t work. Jin works 12 hour shifts (that move constantly) in a dangerous job so every moment of sleep he can get is important. Taking care of electricity and fittings needs all his focus, not sleep deprivation. Since we moved into the apartment I’ve been using the lower single bunk, which has been decidedly less than perfect. So, this year for my birthday the crew pitched in to buy me a new, fabulous queen size bed base & mattress with large storage drawers beneath. We had this fan light in the garage but it was too dangerous when we had bunk beds. NOW it’s perfect, I’ll be cool as a cucumber through summer.

Hopefully next week we can get all the art up. Then I’ll take you a proper photo of the whole room. Once I’m working again I’d like to put a wardrobe, drawers and desk unit around the rooms window.

Layering Roses: Everything’s Coming Up Roses

With all the excitement of a fabulous bed awaiting, off I went for an hour long soak in the bath. Yes, bubbles provided by LUSH Rose Jam. It’s a thick, rich, jammy red rose. The bubbles and fragrance last fabulously.

Layering Roses

We are talking about layering roses right? My next point of call was my dwindling supply of Aftelier Rose Face Elixir. Truth be told I’m not much of a face potion person but this Rose Face Elixir just melts into my skin, leaving it fresh, dewy and luminous for days. It also smells bloody divine! ALL the roses

Lastly in my evening of layering roses I went spritz crazy with Amouage Lyric Man. My bottle is the early, non magnetic cap and over 50% empty. Maibly because it has really poor longevity for me so i respritz every hour. Tonight I was hoping with all this rose base I might get some more life. It did work. Nearly 5 hours passed before I became fully nose blind.

Layering Roses

So just before bedtime at around 3am i decided to go in another direction entirely. A few blasts of CK One Shock for women and the world smelled just right. The blackcurrant gave the lingering roses and amber a lovely jammy zing and I had to check and see if roses were a forgotten note. Then everything tumbled into a choc nougat pile that smells freaking awesome.

How do you like the new Fanaway Ceiling Fan? So cool, eh? The last pic is it in situ. You can just see one of its clear plastic fins slicing through the air. It needs a bloody good clean up tomorrow. Been in the garage for four years in plastic.

See you next week.

OMG, I love that fan! I need to replace the two fans in my master. They are from the 70s and big and ugly and don’t work well. It’s on the list after I get the gas fireplace in the huge oversized monster in the living room!

    • Portia says:

YAY! Glad to help, these fans are freaking fabulous. Warning though Patty, I clean mine twice yearly but they should be done more. They’re not hard, I just forget them. Best to do them the morning of cleaning day so you can vacuum up any mess along with the rest of the house.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

We have a ceiling fan in the master, too, and I find its gentle breeze and soft hum quite relaxing, just enough to cover the house noises that one hears at night that delay falling asleep. My husband works long varying shifts operating heavy equipment and has to be at top alert for his safety and that of others, so I understand how it is. He set up a separate bedroom with black-out shades and another fan for times he needs good rest, so now we both get better sleep!

    • Portia says:

Ah! Yeah, you get our household dilemma perfectly VerbenaLuvvr. It’s a big deal working those ghastly hours in really dangerous situations. Anything I can do to make sure Jin is safe is no problem.
It’s also delicious having my own space with no time or anything restrictions. I feel like a teen getting my first big bed.

  • Tara C says:

Love the fan! Most are so boring and ugly. And yay for having your own room with a comfy bed, that is so wonderful. Rose Jam is so yummy.

    • Portia says:

      Hey TaraC,
Yes, I love the fan too. It feels like it’s jumped out of Art Deco design into my home.
Ha! Yes, it’s surprising how much joy this room is giving me.

  • Dina C. says:

I also love the scent of Lush Rose Jam. The body wash is fantastic as you said. I bought the body spray which is NUCLEAR strength! No kidding. One time I sprayed one spritz on my arm while upstairs in my bedroom, and downstairs my daughter called out, “Did you just spray that Rose Jam spray? I can smell it!” 🙂 Your new bedroom setup is nice. We have a ceiling fan over our bed too, and it makes such a difference.

    • Portia says:

Hey DinaC! That is HILARIOUS about your daughter. WOW! High Octane perfume performance. I’ll remember that if I ever get the perfume.
Oh yes. Ceiling fans are the shizz. SNAP!

  • Jennifer S says:

Ahhh. Isn’t it a great feeling to put a room together the way you want? The fan looks great! That it’s quiet and throws good air…it’ll serve you well and look nice doing so!

    • Portia says:

      JenniferS,
You’ve hot the nail on the head. There’s something very satisfying about getting a thing done in your time and style.

  • Musette says:

P – your willingness to adjust to Jin’s schedule speaks volumes. I once blew myself across the room, faffing about with electricity. It is NOBODY’s friend. Normally I don’t like ‘flamps’ (fan-lamps) but this one is decidedly elegant!!!

Lyric Woman is my go-to when I want my mind firmly on Rose – I cannot easily wear it on a work day because it is so beautifully distracting. That face elixir sounds stunning, too!

xoxoxo to you and Jin, as always, and forever.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Musette,
HA! It’s also selfish. I love my sleep and having him jump up, get ready and get going at 4/5am is not conducive to zzzzzs.
XXX right back at ya. X

  • March says:

Oooooh, I love your new setup! And I LOVE a good ceiling fan (the bad, wobbly ones are terrible lol. My landlord put in a good one after I arrived.) And your layering sounds fantastic! I’ve never been a huuuuge rose fan, but I like a few, and I definitely like a jammy rose!

    • Portia says:

      Hey March,
The fan is already doing a fine job if I need a daytime disco nap. That whoosh of air over me as I lay dreaming is balm for my soul.

  • Jill says:

Portia, the fan looks amazing. I’m glad you are going to be more comfortable.

    • Portia says:

We also have similar fans above the couch in the living room and our main bedroom bed Jill. They are brilliant and we very rarely need Air Con even in a Sydney summer.

  • cinnamon says:

Great on bed and fan. Definitely want to be comfortable. I need to try more Amouage, but will have to be in-store next time in London. Do you have SL Rose de Nuit? I imagine that would layer well.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cinnamon,
I don’t have an SL Rose de Nuit in the open Serge lineup. There may be a bottle hiding with the unopened box.

  • Alityke says:

That fan looks the biz! How noisy is it though? I’m envious to say the least being a “laydee of a certain vintage”.
That CKShock gave my delicate little schnozz a scare when I tried it back in the day, no roses & certainly no nougat. All I remember getting was hairspray!
Enjoy your big bed & extra perfume storage

    • Portia says:

      Hey Alityke,
The fan is whisper quiet, I can only hear the air being carved. Gives excellent wind too.
Oh no, poor you. A schnoz full of hairspray scent is the least lavish fine fragrance.
Been enjoying the new bed massively. One whole drawer is dedicated to extra perfumes I’ve bought that are DCd. Just in case.
