11th Day of Violets

On the 11th day of Violets…

I don’t want to write this review, because all you Apres L’Ondee fans aren’t going to be happy.

Violet, cassie, bergamot, neroli, jasmine, rose, mimosa, vetiver, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, carnation, orris, vanilla, musk, amber and heliotrope.

What’s not to love? I don’t hate it, really, truly, but I’m having trouble finding it enough to form an opnion. I have the parfum in a decant. I spritzed it on, and it’s nice enough, and it lasts for about an hour, then it just wilts. For that hour, it’s certainly likable, but probably more powdery than I like, but way less powdery that Shalimar, which is unwearable for me.

If it weren’t for all the love poems composed in Apres’ honor, I think I’d like this scent on its own, but expecting lush waterfalls full of sparkling violets and then getting a slightly wistful, sad violet may bias me a little.

I suspect it’s much better than I perceive it, that it may be my body chemistry that is not making the magic happen.

Okay, I’m ready, beat me!

OK, we’re scent triplets, because I’m with you and Marina on both of these. The Guerlains I LOVE I just LOVE, like Vol de Nuit, and there are others that just leave me cold, or just plain leave me!:bouncy::crying:

You can have what is left! I don’t think I’ll be wearing it. There’s between 1-2 ml, and I also have a decant of the EDT. I’d be happy to send it to you, V. I’ll have to comb my archives for your address or you can e-mail me that. It should go where it is loved.

I think that Apres L’Ondee smells like wistful, delicate idea of violets bathed in the raindrops and warmed by the sun. It is certainly not lush, so I agree with you. I love its wistful and melancholy air.

However, like R says, sometimes it is not meant to be, and there are plenty of other fragrances for you to love. I am envious of your parfum decant, because I ran out of mine, and now I am just consoling myself with the EDT, which is not as good.

  • Patty says:

    Sistah Marina!
I love the idea of Shalimar, but I put it on and just gag. Now if we could agree on the boozey notes, we could be twins.

  • Marina says:

I am so happy. I didn’t want to be the only one for whom the magic of Apres did not happen, so I never voiced my disappoinment. But now that you’ve gone and done it- I don’t get either :crying:

And woohoo! – Shalimar is unwearable on me to! (((scent sister)) :bouncy:

  • Patty says:

March, my decant was plenty big, I blew through about 3 ml of it trying to get something to stick, and there’s a little something.

R, I am heartbroken, but my credit card is happier that I have not found one more thing to buy.

  • marchlion says:

Hey, P, sorry it didn’t work for you — I got a bottle for Christmas, let me know if you want more (I think your decant was small?) It is true that it doesn’t last long… a forgiveable sin, to me, only because I love it so much. FWIW, to ME, anyway, the E Duse we’re jonesing for smells very much like a stronger Apres.

  • mreenymo says:

    Hey, no apology necessary, babe.

Sometimes it’s just not meant to be…:crying:

    Hugs!
