So…. I got my bottle of Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan yesterday, and I’m in rapture, just careening about like a teenager in love. My husband gets home, and I insisted he had to smell it when it first went on, just so he could see how it changed. I spritzed some on, he ran up the stairs with me following him, arm outstretched. I had to chase him all the way out onto the deck and convince him to sniff Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan, though I warned him it was going to be bad.
The look on his face was hysterical, nose all wrinkled up, and he says, “That is the single most disgusting thing I’ve ever smelled. I hate you, don’t ever make me do that again.” Then, to punish me, he made me see how far his new laser pointer could go in the dark (yes, we are super-nerds, though I’m not as enamored of laser pointers, even the high-powered ones, as he is). It does go about a mile, but I’m trying to figure out how that will come in handy in a classroom?
The end of the story, after 30 minutes, I forced him to resniff Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan so he could see how it changed, and he did agree that it is the smell of humanity and that it wasn’t horrible anymore, just odd.
The cats loved it more than he did. Silly kitties.
Round-up on the gossip — good Lord, where is all the good gossip? No wonder my gossip game has been weak to quite weak, there’s not much to go on. Most of my entertainment comes from Youtube now. How can so much good stuff be stored in one website? I need to spend less time there, I can feel my brain cells dying by the hundreds every time I watch another Japanese commercial
And I now have the first of my Season 2 of “Grey’s Anatomy” disks from Netflix and I’m still under the weather, so I’m going to curl up in this gorgeous fall weather we have been having, under my soft as a baby’s butt blanket (www.dreamalittledreamwithme.com — Joely is awesome) this weekend and enjoy Dr. McDreamy and Meredith’s sexual angst. Y’all have a great weekend! Mandarine Mandarin will be up for review on Monday and will be the sample giveaway for that day.
This reminds me that I must have skank-eating skin (and my DH has an even more skank-eating nose). I can smell something of the barnyard in the opening of MKK on me–although I like it, but DH’s reaction was simply–“nice, sweet.” When I mentioned cows and goats and horses, he just looked puzzled and said “No, it’s sweet. I like it.” (BTW, it is not that sweet on me–maybe a little).
And then one of my faves is the infamous Rose Poivree. I don’t get any buttcrack here, but I do smell some (nice) private parts. So I asked him what he smelled and he said “Whatever it is, it’s something very pretty.” Two of his faves on himself are Montale Cuir d’Arabie and le Labo Vetiver. He was also very impressed with a layering combo of le labo patch (which I ran out of, and so added—) Lonestar Memories, and CB Musk. Without even being asked to smell it, he commented –“That leather scent you have on. . Can I have some to wear?”
G — I think definitely dabbing works better, or I ju7st spritz into one small area. A little goes a LONG ways.
Katie — laser pointers and cats just go together like milk and cereal. With this big laser, we can now use it on all the neighborhood cats and those about six blocks away. 🙂
Sure, Datagirl!
R — DH loves to be tortured, really. If I didn’t do it, his day would not be complete. 🙂
Fortunately, Mr. Gingele likes MKK on me (good thing, too – since it’s as close to a HG as I have, to date).
And although I am definitely a spritzer and not a dabber, for some reason with The Beast if find that I prefer dabbing. Or sometimes when I really need a jolt (read no further, all those who do not love skank)…sometimes I will use my pipette and squeeze several drops (ok, maybe a few mls) into the palms of my hands and apply it like it’s Mennen Skin Bracer. @-)
Wait, he had a laser pointer and was testing it for distance rather than on the cats? The man is nuts! I don’t care what anyone says: lasers + cats = entertainment.
May I pre-enter for the Mandarine Mandarin? I’ll be on vaca next week and probably won’t be able to check back. I’m sure both you *and* your husband will love it!
Please don’t torture that poor man anymore. :)>-
Hugs!
Oh, Lord, no! I just wanted to torture him a little, not a lot. I might sneak a couple of those in one a week.
MM is wonderful.
So, I’m guessing you didn’t try the CB Musk out on him? How ’bout Borneo? Le Labo Vetiver?
:-”
Hope the Mandarine turns out to be fabulous!
Hey, Chaya. DHs are so annoying when it comes to scent. I usually leave mine alone most of the time, but every now and then I have to just torture him with something really awful so he knows I still love him. 🙂
I have missed Scrubs so far, but they should have their first and second season out on DVD. I’ve become a huge fan of watching good series television on DVD, it saves me from having to tune in at a regular time every week (it seems like the stuff I want to watch is on at the same two time slots every week, so Tivo isn’t much help with more than one), and I can polish them off in one cold/rainy weekend when I want or slowly on the treadmill every day.
Are we at Rosh Hashanna already? My wishes for a sweet one for you to, Chaya!
My cats are excellent judges of skank. I could insert a really crude remark here, but… 🙂
Cumin is sometimes perfect and sometimes not for me,but I like that it’s different. My canine child also agrees that everything smells better with a treat. He adores the Bil-Jac Peanut Butter treats the most.
:((Patty, angel-
I JUST tiraded [is that now a verb?] about this DH issue before I checked in here…
Please forgive my perfume envy- otherwise, I’m not the least covetous, I assure you. I’m an overflowing breast of humanity [at least, that’s what I’m told…]
If you get Comedy Central, do check out Scrubs-
It remains the only exception to my ironclad rule:
NEVER watch anything that you have relates to work…
Hilarious, and touching without being maudlin.
Have a great w/e… and a sweet New Year
[from your Jewish Big Sister…]
LOL at your husband’s reaction. Clearly, your cat’s have excellent taste. My DH has had a very similar reaction to Bobo. The desire to wear cumin mystifies him. Sigh. I adore cumin in scents. My beloved canine child adores all that I wear as long as I ask him while holding up a cookie.
Very psyched that you’ll be reviewing MM next week!
Hey, Sariah. I really like Mandarin, and I’m having trouble putting it in a specific hole. 🙂
Husbands are so funny. The best package mine ever gets is either full of cigars, wine or an order from ThinkGeek.
Hi P,
I’m excited for your Manderin review next week, ever since someone (Marina?) said it was in the family of Les Nuits d’Hadrian, one of my HG’s, I’ve been hankering to sniff it. That’s so funny about your husband, mine is a super nerd when it comes to our bikes, he is always wanting me to get a lighter fork or better cranks or some sh#@$t – I tell him why get a lighter bike when it’s really losing some fat from my butt that would make me bike better? He actually liked MKK, even in the first stage, he’s got a very high tolerance for weirdness and/or skank, perhaps because he’s from a place that has more “aroma” than here.
