smell bent remix project

smell bent, that LA-based purveyor of fun and inexpensive scents I am pretty much a bog fan of has released a limited “remix project”, where they’ve taken three of their classic scents and switched things out, giving them what the call the “DJ Treatment”

Sunshine Mama’s Spiced Tea opens with black tea and orange. It’s like the eye-opening first slug of tea in the morning while you’re spreading your toast with marmalade. Spices join in later, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. To continue if not belabor the metaphor, it’s the oatmeal after the orange juice. I like it a lot.

Tok’Yo Mama Fizzzzz calls itself a fizzy citrus soda and it is. I don’t know if it’s the yuzu or what but the opening on this realy does smell like one of those lemony sodas made in Italy that Trader Joe’s sells. It’s so crisp and fresh and delightful the only way it could be better is if it came on ice with some Gin.

My favorite was Debonair Eau Dandy, which reminded me of Eau Sauvage. But the Eau Sauvage of the 70’s when I was a kid and first smelled it. It’s a little brighter and a bit more raucous and isn’t a carbon copy. But it does have real actual oakmoss and smells like it, and that’s good enough for me.

All of these are available from smellbent.com, I prefer the sprays, which are $45 for 50ML. My samples came from the perfumer.

I don’t have AC either and have lived in the same place for decades. I think that light is a worse enemy of scents; a few days where they’re gradually exposed to heat won’t kill them, as long as they’re out of the light and not stored in a closet that’s facing outside (sun)

We had a day last year when it reached 116 before the official thermometer died. My perfumes thankfully survived.

I think your scents would be harmed more by going from 80 to 40 to 80 in a day. Hope that helps.

I am not familiar with these scents so can’t respond but would like to know…do you think I should be storing my perfumes in the fridge, given the heat wave hitting the country? I have limited AC in my house and it stays reasonably cool but some of the perfume is in a room that will be 80 degrees over the next few days.
    Please advise.
    thanks.

Smell Bent sounds like they’re having fun with perfume, so my kind of folks. Are they around in real, live stores? I’ll be in Toronto briefly, as well as Montreal next month, if anyone happens to know of a locale…

    • tmp00 says:

They are in some; you might want to contact them to see if they’re in your area.

Heck, they’re not pricey, ask one of your local places to carry a few!

Thanks, Tom! I just ordered my sample set right before reading this and am looking forward to them. I am a HUGE fan of Smell Bent – my SB collection outnumbers my Guerlains!

It’s easy to have that happen! I usually throw a couple samples in my order to keep in the ashtray for emergencies..

  • Ann says:

Hi Tom! These all sound absolutely DEE-lightful! Any idea where they can be sampled? Thanks!

  • Musette says:

These sound delightful! I love the notes of the first one, sounds much like Agraria Bitter Orange which, for anybody who just moved here from Pluto might not know, is my Favorite Summer Cologne.

    Tokyo-mama Fizzzz sounds…….oooh! Just …ooooh!:x

    xo >-)

Tom, these all sound yummy! How’s the longevity of these, though? My skin is difficult that way…
