Never too early

By Ann

Now that it’s March, and spring looks to be coming around the bend (although with the crazy weather we’ve been having, who knows?), I’m taking a very tentative peek ahead on the calendar.

While not neglecting my warm and cozy  winter comfort perfumes, which I never put completely away until at least mid-April, I have been looking a bit longingly over at the spring selection of scents. I’m eying Byredo La Tulipe, Dior New Look 1947 , Mary Greenwell Plum and Untitled by Maison Martin Margiela, among others. I’m looking forward to the day when I can break them out with a flourish and keep them out, instead of rotating bottles/samps/decants wildly to keep up with Mother Nature’s roller coaster ride.

So what about you? What springtime scents have you been itching to wear or  what are you dying to try?

  • perfume mall says:

yep march is going on and one more good thing related to it is spring and spring perfumes. In spring and summer season different perfumes and fragrances available and many being launched but may favorite is La Rose, an ever green perfume.

  • nozknoz says:

It’s been so warm this year that I have been able to enjoy just about anything most of the time EXCEPT for my favorite deep dark winter scents like Ineke Field Notes from Paris, PG Cozé, Etro Messe de Minuit and Tauer L’AdDM. So I’m feeling a twinge of wistful regret for the winter scents rather than looking forward to anything in particular.

There are some new light scents I want to try, though, such as Diptyque Eau Rose, and I really should get a sample of Chanel No. 18.

    • Ann says:

Hi nozknoz, that’s kind of a nice problem to have, but I know you miss the dark scents. Maybe sneak a couple in on a cool evening? I really need to try the Messe de Minuit one of these days and also give No. 18 another go. I tried it so long ago that maybe it will work for me now.

  • tammy says:

Here in the land of perpetuals summer/spring, I am wearing the Paris flanker Roses Enchantees.

I never liked Paris, but I do love the flankers.

Also getting much mileage out of Garden Party Frangipane and Bvlgari Au The Vert; it’s new for me and I am just about obsessed.

    • Musette says:

I wore Paris back in The Day (25+ years ago? Yikes! 😮 ) and it’s still in my nose! Strong stuff! And I wore a LOT of it.

      ah, those days…

      xo >-)

ps. Bulgari is a beauty for spring, isn’t it?

      • tammy says:

I have been loving it! Actually been wearing it a lot since last October. It has become a comfort scent for me. Very soothing and calming, and quite a departure from my usual taste!

Can’t believe I am just discovering it.

  • Perfumista8 says:

LIke Julie and Kym, I’m also on the West Coast. I’ve been wearing some light orientals like Costume National 21 and PG Intrigant Patchouli. For me, they are nice transitional scents from the heavier, snuggly perfumes of winter. I’m also looking forward to wearing Trèfle Pur, AG Neroli, TF Neroli Portofino, Diptyque Eau Rose, Osmanthe Yunnan. I’d like to try both Amber Oud, and Vanilla Insensee in warmer weather to see if they “fit.”

    • Ann says:

I have not tried it, but I am intrigued by the PG Patchouli. The Dior one was nice, but the only patchouli-centric scent I’ve really fallen in love with has been Coromandel. I like the TF Neroli as well and if money were no object, I’d have all the bath and body goodies in it. I think the Vanille Insensee could do nicely in warmer weather …

  • Kym says:

Seems like we had spring for a week and now are firmly into summer on the west coast. Our weather has gone from mid-70’s to high-80’s, to mid-60’s and back again all within a couple days over the past few weeks. I’ve already worn tropicals (Manoumalia), light orientals (Shalimar PI, Seven Veils, L’Elephant), summer-woody (Gypsy Water), winter-woody (Cadjmere) and traditional spring (En Passant)and my deepest love as of late: PdN Vanille Tonka.

    • Ann says:

Oooh, Kym — glad to see another Gypsy Water, Seven Veils and Cadjmere fan. Love the En Passant as well. You out there on the West Coast got an early start this year …

  • Julie says:

While we don’t really have 4 seasons here in SD (more like 2 – summer and fall), I still rotate the scents accordingly. And we just had some gorgeous weather this weekend and I thought to myself this morning that I need to rotate the perfumes on my vanity tray. I put on some Atelier Trefle Pur this morning and will also pull out En Passant, Oolang Infini, Osmanthe Yunnan, Chrevrefeuille, Rose Ikebana and Kelly Caleche.

    • Musette says:

Wait. I’m thinking South Dakota. Which has a particularly hellish form of Winter – the Longform version, to boot!
      So that can’t be it.

      San Diego?

      xo >-)

      • Julie says:

It is indeed San Diego. Should have spelled that one out as that isn’t used terribly often by anyone outside of SD! And yes, quite a bit far off from South Dakota. Never been there and I fear after living here for 11 years, I could not take that kind of winter.

  • FragrantWitch says:

I am much more an autumn/winter scent person in my choice of favourite notes but I do love Chamade, Hové Creole Days and their Verveine, Black March, Iris Nobile and White Linen. I tried the new L.I.L.Y from Stella McCartney and surprised myself by really liking it- thankfully, I got no lily ( NOT friends with lily) but rather Lily of the Valley. Really well done and quite lovely, I can see myself buying it and wearing it a lot in spring and summer. This post makes me pine for easy breezy days…

    • Ann says:

Hi, M! Glad you enjoyed the new Stella. I’m with you in that I like LOV better than straight lily, so now you’ve given me the courage to give it a try.

  • HemlockSillage says:

Spring is here! I’m wearing Bel Respiro today, sprayed with more than my usual frugal 1-2 sprays. I went nuts and used 5 sprays :D

As for other spring scents I crave: Papyrus de Ciane, Le Temps d’Une Fête, Chamade, Trèfle Pur, En Passant and anything really green. I love this set of fragrances, though I’m sad to set aside my ambers and thick cozy scents so soon. We had almost no winter here. Not complaining! I just didn’t get much wear from my big winter things. Hope you all are out, enjoying your ‘fume collection to the fullest. Spray on!

    • Ann says:

Spray on — I love it! And Bel Respiro’s a great one to go hog-wild with. And your mention of En Passant has me ready to dig out my sample.

  • Musette says:

We had long stretches of 50F+ temps in February. Now, in March, we have 20F and a pile of snow. :-w

As soon as this clears out, though, I’m busting out the vintage Diorissimo. Today I am wearing Par de Therese, just to be ornery. It’s not really a freezing weather scent, imo, but it’s not chilling me too bad.

    xo >-)

    • HemlockSillage says:

Parfum de Thérèse is perfect in all seasons. . .okay, perhaps not the 100+F with 100% humidity that lingers here in August, but most other times, it’s always elegant and unfussily ladylike. Wear on!

Hope all you Midwesterners are okay after the tornado attacks. I have this vague mental map of several ‘Posse posters in OK, OH, KY, IN and IL. Hunker down and be safe up there.

      • Musette says:

we’ve been fortunate in our neck of the woods but south/southeast of here it’s just been horrible! Praying for all of those poor people. Just sad – and a reminder that Nature is NOT our bff! It’s NATURE. Be aware.

        😡

        xo >-)

  • Rena says:

Anne Pliska! Just got a sample of this and I suspect that I’ll have a full bottle way before summer hits. Will probably also burn through my samples of Burberry London and Bas de Soie and I need to get a decant of After My Own Heart

    • Ann says:

Funny — I was just craving some Bas de Soie and had to get a sample recently. I wasn’t crazy about it when it debuted, but something about it called for me to try it again. That Anne Pliska is very nice, too.

  • ElizabethW says:

I am still clinging to my winter comfort scents–vintage YSL Nu, le Maroc pour Elle and DK Black Cashmere. New England is cold right now, and it will be a few weeks more before I want the springtime scents. I’m looking forward to wearing Folavril and Carillon pour un Ange.

    • Ann says:

I, too, am loving Nu, after a very long absence. And Black Cashmere as well. I want to revisit the Carillon too.

  • Eldarwen 22 says:

The thought just hit me that I really don’t have a lot of spring/summer scents. I’m waiting to bust out my Chanel no. 19 EDP. It may be the current formulation and Chanel is only selling it through their website. No. 19 EDP is rosy and just too light to be worn in winter. I’m probably going to get a decant of Un Coeur en Mai when the weather warms up and I know that it’s gonna stay warm.

    • Ann says:

Great choice on the Chanel. I need to get back in touch with that one after not having worn it for awhile. I envy you and the Coeur; I wanted to love it but it just did not like me. Enjoy!

  • Sherri M says:

It’s already Spring here, but, not having had much of a winter, I’m still trying to cling on to the last of the colder days to enjoy my winter perfumes. Spring usually is my favorite perfume season tho. I love all those mentioned, and will add Coeur en Mai, Grand Amour, Quel Amour, Xerjoff Iriss, Heure Exquise, L’heure Diaphane, Des Lys…I could go on and on..though lately I have been loving on Rose Poivree (thanks, Tracy!) and vintage Le Dix (love that one; how did I miss it?). Thanks for a great post and Happy Spring, everyone!

    • Ann says:

Hi, Sherri, I know what you mean. I’m loath to give up my winter cozies as well, so I’m trying to make the most of the chilly days we have remaining. Thanks, and happy spring to you, too!

    • nozknoz says:

Also very fond of vintage Le Dix!

  • mals86 says:

Last week the temps were in the 60s, and I broke out my Crown Bouquet.

Today, we have snow. Go figure.

    • Ann says:

Hey, Mals! Mother Nature is really having fun with us this year, it seems, but it could be worse. At least we didn’t get hit with tornadoes, like so many poor folks did.

  • Lemon says:

I can’t wait to wear Un Lys, En Passant, and Champs Elysees. It’s snowy and cold here so may have to wait a while.

    • Ann says:

I love En Passant and Un Lys, too, but the Champs Elysees had slipped my mind. Wasn’t sure it was still being made. Hang in there — spring’s a coming!

  • March says:

I love spring fragrances this time of year… why wait? :d In fact, I’ve been known to bust them out during February snows (which we didn’t have this year.) To me, Carthusia’s Mediterraneo is the essence of spring, for reasons I’m not clear on. I’d cheerfully wear any of the scents on your spring list!

    • Ann says:

Hey, sweetie! So nice to hear from you. I like your idea of wearing them during February snows (but I’m hoping that since we didn’t have any either, that we won’t be hit hard in March — it’s happened). I keep meaning to try the Carthusia as well.

  • hongkongmom says:

mmm, hi there sweet anne, lets see…am looking forward to annick goutal neroli mostly, thereafter, artemisia, lavandula and violetta…all penholigans, osthmanthus yunan, to retrying oj frangipani, antonias flowers, all in no particular order. Seems like I have summer flowers in my head!!!!

    • Ann says:

Hi, dear! I love the summer flowers in your head — makes me think of warm days and lots of sunshine. Enjoy!

  • Lisa D says:

I really want to try PG Indochine, but I’ve promised myself that I won’t buy any perfume (samples, partials OR bottles) for a full month. Gosh. Thankfully, I’ve got plenty of perfume to make those 30 days more bearable. Keiko Mecheri Gourmandises – a recent swap – sounds like a great spring scent, dontcha’ think?

    • unseencenser says:

Lisa D, me too! Nothing new till April. Fortunately I have plenty on hand already too. I don’t know that Gourmandises – putting on the list to consider acquiring – in April! :-?

      • Ann says:

Sounds yummy, ladies. Your willpower is better than mine — any self-imposed moratorium on buying samples usually only lasts a couple of weeks and then off I go …

      • Lisa D says:

LOL – exactly. I’ll probably just make up for it by buying MORE than I normally would on days 31-60………

  • Ms.Christian says:

We never really had a “winter” this year in the Bay area, but lately I have been wearing Chanel Cristalle, vintage Balmain Vent Vert, EL White Linen, Balmain Ivoire and Czech & Speake Lavender.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Ms. Christian. Love the greens on your list. And lucky you, to live in the Bay area!

    • ggperfume says:

I know – it’s been sad for me, since I love grey, rainy weather and fear drought. I’ve been wearing my winter scents anyway, as long as the calendar agrees, but I’ve already had to wear Fidji twice – 80-degree weather had me skipping past the spring scents to the summer ones. I’m hoping for some days that will feel right for Bas de Soie and Chanel no 19, my cool spring favorites.

  • Joanna says:

I purchased bottles of M.Micallef’s Printemps,(Spring) and Ete,(Summer) for next to nothing on Ebay and really like both of them. Looking forward to wearing them more as the weather improves. Also looking forward to more vtg Diorissimo, Nasomatto Nuda, Keiko Mecheri’s Sanguine, and Goutal’s Petite Cherie to name a few.

    • Ann says:

Haven’t tried those Micallefs you mentioned, but they sound lovely. I’m not all that familiar with the line, except for their Note Vanille, which I like. Got to get busy sampling …

      • Joanna says:

Micallef’s fragrances are always so well blended. I also got a bottle of their Black Sea on Ebay. Apparently they’re discontinuing the Four Seasons and the Seas lines.

  • Alnysie says:

I bought (or received) a lot of warmer weather scents this winter, and so I’m looking forward to wear En Passant, Do Son, Thé pour un Été, and Le Temps d’Une Fête in warmer weather!

    • Ann says:

Mmmm, Alnysie, lots of lovelies you’ve got there. I enjoy all of them save for the Le Temps which didn’t agree with my skin, sadly. I did get some Do Son soap for Christmas that I’m looking forward to breaking out.

  • Catherine says:

It’s easily spring in Oklahoma, so I’ve been indulging in Chanel: No. 18, La Pausa, and Bel Respiro.

    Heaven!

    • Ann says:

Hi, Catherine! The house of Chanel does have some great springtime scents, doesn’t it? I must go and dig up my little bit of Bel Respiro. Thanks for the reminder …

      • Musette says:

Oooh! La Pausa is perfect for early spring!! We had early spring in February. Now we are having winter in March.

        yay. /:)

        xo >-)

    • Karen G. says:

Catherine, I just dug out my long neglected sample of No. 18 yesterday. This beauty seems to get overlooked, but I think I’m in love!
