Eau Noire by Francis Kurkdjian for DIOR 2004
I bought the SurrenderToChance Couturier Collection Sampler a while back and have been slowly making my way through the samples. I find the line beautiful, interesting, elegant and sometimes surprising. They have not all been super winners on or for me but that’s chemistry not quality. With Eau Noire I’m a bit surprised I haven’t jumped on it sooner because plenty of the accords are right up my alley and it reads like an ole worlde fougere brought smack bang up to date. Which is exactly what it is, even though it’s not brand new.
Fragrantica gives these featured accords
Top: Grass, sage, anise
Heart: Lavender, Virginian cedar, coffee
Base: Leather, vanilla, violet
On my skin the first rush is dark chocolate & coffee before anything else, it’s a big whack of it so monumental and enveloping that I want to do it again. WOW!! That burns down quickly and the lovely herbal, grass and sweet licorice-allsorts scenta are allowed to do their thing. I wore this the other day without looking at notes and there is something in Eau Noire by Francis Kurkdjian for DIOR that smells like my freshly washed dogs but none of the shampoo notes match. Dunno but it is a fabulous scent. Freshly hewn wood and coffee make an awesome pairing running high against the sweet green opening that stays for quite a while, the anise particularly, and the lavender doesn’t really shine on me but I can tell it’s there. As the vanilla winds its way through the coffee Eau Noire becomes almost gourmand but is kept dark and deep by the leather and cool violet, I also get a very slight chemical whiff towards the end that is not unpleasant but merely other and it makes the dry down interesting as well as cuddly warm and sensual. Something else I find on wearing Eau Noire again is that there should be notes in a line rather than on the table because even 5 hours in I still get wafts of the anise and woods.
Another tenacious winner Eau Noire by Francis Kurkdjian for DIOR is not loud and has a slight sillage, you won’t get in trouble for skunking your co workers unless you go spray crazy, and dinner will not be overwhelmed, nice for a movie, date night or even casual drinks. Amp it up with an extra spritz for the disco or a red hot booty call but remember to srpitz near where you want to be kissed not on it because perfume smells divine but tastes AWFUL! BLEAUGH
You have to hunt for these beauties but it’s worth it. Eau Noire is exactly the rich, dark, delicious fantasy that I want and expect from a perfume called noire.
SurrenderToChance starts Eau Noire by Francis Kurkdjian for DIOR at 1ml/$3
Also available a very select DIOR boutiques and Department Stores.
Lady Dior – Lady Noire Affair
I thought you might like to be reminded of this great DIOR mini movie incorporating a whole bunch of their delicious accessories. Little bits of dribble run down my chins every time I watch it. I am guilty of greed, lust and covetousness! Only a few more and I’ll have the set. Though this is not strictly on topic it is DIOR and has noire in the title. It’s only 6 minutes if you ignore the credits. Exactly enough brain neutral time to recover and push through another day.
