Sorry, y’all, it’s sick call today. Near the end of it, but I keep relapsing into a fever and just can’t string together enough energy to sniff long enough and gather my thoughts even semi intelligently.
Let’s speculate instead on the new Serge Lutens La Reglieuse instead. The only notes I’ve found are jasmine, incense, musk and civet. And ohheytherebadgirl, that calls to me. Jasmine, incense and civet are the three notes that I think belong in every fragrance, then you can throw other things in on top of that to make it more personal. No? Anyone smelled it yet? Of course it wasn’t on the shelves yet when I was in Paris, so I’ve had to get it through the mail. With any luck, by the end of the week.
The always helpful marketing notes mention it is a fight between good and evil, black and white. It appears to have some religious inferences, and if I love it as much as I loved the other somewhat religious’ish fragrance, de Profundis, then I will be more than satisfied. Anticipation is so much fun. What are you guys thinking about this one? And avoidavoidavoid the darn flu and colds and all that stuff, it is misery.
Hi Patty. I tried La Religieuse the other day and can offer a first impression. I tested it on paper only , probably because I did not feel the urge to try it on my skin….. I initially smelled musk and not much else. No incense and certainly no civet. And then the jasmine kicked in and became dominant. To me this smells ” pretty” without ambiguity or mystery. It has the same vibe as ELO ” Don’t get me wrong baby “…and that’s not exactly a compliment.Bottom line : nothing Lutensian at least on paper…
Hope you feel better soon ,Patty! I’m trying to dodge the crud and flu going the rounds at my store. I just got on the Calyx bandwagon and the Amen pure malt wagon and ooooh Jo Malone! [ stalking]. I’m curious about the new Aromatics in White. I’m almost ready to blind buy it unsniffed!
I’m a Lutens fan, but his press releases the last..what, couple years?-just make me want to throw him a beating. By strange coincidence I’m testing de Profundis today, and I don’t think much of it. But I’m willing to forgive the maker of Muscs Koublai Kahn for a lot.
If the new frag has a lot of civet, I’m in.
Oh no – I do hope you’ll feel better soon. There’s been a lot of colds and stomach bugs going around in our family and I’m terrified that is going to strike me or the baby!
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever tried a scent with civet. But the jasmine incense combo looks interesting, reminds me a bit of Do Not Ask Me Why. I haven’t found a ton of Lutens that I really love, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one fares!
I haven’t tried this one yet but it’s going on my to try list because I am a sucker for jasmine dominant scents. I am kind of hoping that I won’t like it because I have enough bottles of perfume already and my to buy list seems like a mile long already.
Sorry you are not feeling well, Patty–get well soon! Haven’t tried the SL La Reglieuse, I seem to be full up on incense frags at the moment. Wearing Tauer Incense Rose today.
Yes, I agree, the marketing notes are ever so helpful. What a crock!
I sympathize with you being ill. I lost almost a month to the flu, off and on.
I hope you feel better soon.
Aw, poor Patty. So sorry you’re feeling icky; get lots of rest, green and white tea, and Ihope you feel better soon.
BTW, am looking forward to trying that Serge as well. Incense and jasmine have me pricking up my ears.
Get Well Patty. XXX
Portia
I hope you’ll get well soon, Patty. Have plenty of rest.
I am curious about La Reglieuse, although the amount of new releases is just overwhelming. At the moment I am more inclined to enjoy the fragrances I have (and finally try the samples I got several months ago) than hunt for the new ones. But the combination of jasmine and incense sounds good to me.
Get well soon, Patty! Keep warm, and take a lot of soup. 🙂
So curious about La Religieuse. I still prefer the harem aesthetics, but this is a launch I have high hopes for.
