Hair, Face and Skin Oils

I actually had this whole post written in my head.  But this week I’m playing Mike and Abby in STC and decanting along with my other job, so time is still ridiculous until next week, except next week I’m in Maine. After THAT, though.  🙂

My love affair with oils start with face oils, and now I’ve added hair oil into the mix as well as body oils.  I’m ridiculously in love with oiling up.

I promise I’ll put up a whole post with some reviews of products I love, but … time!  So have you ever tried any oils for face, hair or skin? Faves?  I’ll put together a sample set of some of my favorite  oils to a commenter or two drawn at random.

Hi there. My favorite subject! I’ve been on a hair/body/face oil, along with lotions and hair scents. I have been using Aroma M’s Camellia cleansing oil, hair oil, and body oil for the last year and they are all fabulous. My favorite body oils are Nuxe, Tauer’s Rose oil, Chanel #5 body oil (Fragrant Wanderer is right – it’s not in the shops right now. I hope they bring it back,) and Aftelier’s Ancient Resins. I have tried The Ordinary’s Rose Hip Seed oil but I haven’t noticed much of a difference. Chanel makes a nice No. 5 hair scent, but it’s available only sporadically. Guerlain makes a Shalimar hair scent and oil; sometimes they can be found on ebay or Amazon for relatively good prices!

I’ve really enjoyed using Andy Tauer’s body oils after a shower – especially the Rose-scented one.

  • Kathleen says:

I love Beautycounter Plumping facial oil and Sunday Riley Juno facial oil. I’ve not felt the need for hair oil yet but curious what other’s are using.

  • Claudia S says:

I like the DHC cleansing oil. It washes off so easily!

  • Koyel says:

Ooh this is right up my alley. I use body oils regularly—I love the non-Shea l’Occitane ones, and the Tauer ones and 10 Corso Como. More recently, I’ve started making my own body oils, and that’s been fun. I’ve never tried any facial oils, though, and honestly am kind of scared to. Can’t wait to hear your favorites!

Argan Oil for my hair is all that I use. Too many breakouts if I use oil on my skin.

  • The Chanel 5 Body Oil is still one of my all-time favorites, although impossible to find except on eBay where the price is DOUBLE what it was in the stores last Xmas. But it’s so good, it’s worth the inflated price, and I keep hoping for a re-emergence this Holiday season……

I’m a fan of DHC Deep Cleansing Oil in the winter and love the smell of Nuxe all year round. Hope you have fun here in Maine next week! The weather is forecast to be crisp and clear, great apple picking weather.

The first time I saw hair oil was in the DHC catalog. It seems counter intuitive at first but my hair and scalp love it. The Badger line is also good. Even though I’m in my sixties, I find face oil frequently more agreeable than cream. Supposedly Jackie Onassis used almond oil on her skin. Haven’t tried any I haven’t liked except one serum that I found too tacky. If it leaves a sticky feeling I’m done. Have had good luck with some at Whole Foods which is where I found Badger.

Being thrifty and lazy, I just use plain jojoba oil on my face. It works fine and leaves more $$ in the budget for perfume. 🙂

    • March says:

LOL me too! I use jojoba oil on my face, hair, as a makeup remover, body oil… sometimes I use almond oil in the same ways. I also put jojoba on some of my handbags (depends on the finish.) I like that oil is basically unscented, I scent up with other product. And occasionally I put coconut oil on my arms and legs, but the dogs chase me around trying to lick it off…

      • Musette says:

Me, three! BIG Jojoba and/or almond oil user! I was taught that years ago – my MA pal took me through the Erno Laszlo regimen, which started with an oil. It’s especially good for when you have breakouts, oddly enough. LUH it!

I use Matrix Biolage Exquisite oil in my hair. My hairdresser recommended it as a finishing touch. It does not do much for frizz in the summer, but helps with flyaways in the winter.

  • Fleurycat says:

I spent most of my adult life using oil free skin care products on my face since my skin was combination and many creams were just too heavy. I couldn’t imagine using facial oils directly! Fast forward: with age my skin care needs have changed. Looking for something new I tried an Evan Healy facial set. I mixed the rose serum oil into my moisturizer or into a facial tonic and the results were dramatic! In the winter months I now blend my oils into Evan Healy Rose Vétiver Day Moisturizer, which is wonderful, as well, though I use others depending on seasonal needs. Next, I discovered Odacité (oil) sérums, my absolute favorites by far, with too many I love to list!
So many people began commenting on the youthful appearance of my skin! Recently I’ve tried Herbivore Lapis facial oil with Blue Tansy, after loving the sample of Blue Tansy Resurfacing and Clarity mask I tried. Although marketed for oily/combo skin, I have had great results with these, too! For Body I love Tauer Rose Delight Body Oil, Korres Jasmine or Honey Body Oils, Weleda Birch (great in Summer and smells of zesty lime), Herbivore Jasmine, and Nuxe Dry Oil with shimmer. I generally blend these with body lotions.

Definitely will be ‘listening’ to this thread. I use a facial oil from a company in Amsterdam, Marie-Stella-Maris. Beautiful stuff. I recently saw a makeup video on Lisa Eldridge’s site in which a guest MA used rosehip oil under a CC cream I love but which pills over regular moisturiser. Revelation. Used the MSM oil under the It Cosmetics cream and it looked great.

L’Occitane does Shea Fabulous Oil. Smells amazing like a night in a tropical garden.

I’ve used a Shea Moisture reconstructive hair oil for years that I find helps with my coarse, frizzy (nightmare) hair. Also love Clarins body oil for moisture and fragrance. Looking forward to hearing your referrals, as I’d like to try more of them.

Leonore Greyl Magnolia Oil! Lovely smelling and incredibly efficacious.

  • Hi Patty!

For the past two years, I have been using two products from Mountain Rose Herbs (mountainroseherbs.com) exclusively: Geranium Argan Facial Serum, and Classic Rose Facial Oil (more often in Winter, when my skin is drier). I can use the Facial Serum even in the warmest days of Summer because it is light and sinks right into my skin. Not expensive, and a little goes a long way.

I find that I don’t really need a lot of other products and have been very happy with the way my skin looks and feels. (I’m 64) I am not affiliated in any way with Mountain Rose Herbs, other than being a happy customer.

Once in a while, I put some Nuxe Dry Oil on my arms & chest, or in my hair because it smells so nice.

    Love, Queen Cupcake
