Win Some, Lose Some

Hey, so, here’s what I hate about drawings: only one person’s a winner.

I have friends who always seem to win sweepstakes-type deals, or drawings — work drawings, fundraisers, etc.  I have other friends who’ve repeatedly won small-to-decent amounts at no-skill-necessary casino games like playing the slot machines.

I never, ever win those things– do you?  I’m resigned to it, more or less.  I remind myself that my particular area of luck is what I call “parking karma” — generally I can roll right up to the front of some building or event in my car and boom there’s a parking space.  My parking karma works great at the mall and near doctor’s offices and in urban areas in general. If you need to go somewhere that has scant parking, ask me to drive.

You know what you absolutely don’t want to do?  Get behind me in a queue at any cash register.  The second I step into line, the whole cash economy opens up a black hole in front of me– some guy decides to pay for his groceries in pennies, or he can’t find his wallet; the cash register breaks or runs out of tape; the credit card scanner goes down suddenly and inexplicably.  I don’t care if I’m the third (and last) person in my line, and the other line snakes halfway around the store — get in that other line.  I’ll still be standing there, fuming, when you walk out.

Do you have parking karma or some other weird, random area of luck in your life?  Do you win sweepstakes?

The winner of the Femme draw, chosen by random.org, is Sherobin; thanks to all of you for playing, and I’m sorry I can’t send each one of you a vintage bottle.  Cheers.
