Smooches for Lipstick Rose

Just got a package, my Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose.

Mother of God, this is some beautiful juice. How did I miss this one for so long? Roses and violets, I think I need to drop to one knee and propose to this bottle.

Bad news — they sent me a great sample of Iris Poudre, which I promptly dropped and crashed on the floor. My office smells great. Good news, my bottle of Iris Poudre comes in hopefully next week.

I want this candle in the worst way, but $75 for a 6-oz candle is just ridiculous. I wonder if my husband loves me enough? I’ll IM him and find out.

  • Katie says:

Oh wow! Yeah, I can’t really ever justify that much on a candle ever either – especially because as soon as I get *this close* to really caving on one, I find some local person’s handiworks, and realize that I can have a perfectly decent candle for less money, and better yet, that money will be supporting a local small business. But alas, none of them are truly “great” (as in masterpiece) fragrances, so those longings do come up with a little frequency I’m afraid.

  • Patty says:

Well, I’ll know by Valentine’s Day. I dropped a hint the size of Texas in my normal, subtle “I WANT!!!” way.

  • marbledog says:

Well??? Did you IM him? And??? Or do we have to wait and see if he surprises you someday.

  • Patty says:

It can’t be a good thing that I know this place exists. I’m going to discipline myself to get those candles first, then I have to explore that world of pretty things!!!

I want that flying pig limoges box. I don’t know why, but I do.

  • Cait says:

Mos def a FM ho, chez moi.

OMG, woman, check it out. Lucury housewares and jewelry and gifts from SF specializing in stuff from East Asia. Check the sale pages. :bouncy:

  • Patty says:

Cait, so you’re a Frederic Malle Hoochie Mama? 🙂

What is Gump’s? Candles are my weakness. Robin had a post up about a new set from Trapp today that has a lemming bitin’ my butt, but at least they have a reasonable price tag on them.

  • Cait says:

    Patty,
I am with you on Lipstick Rose and Iris Poudre, and I need that candle too! I was just planting hints about that in my house yesterday when we got the Gump’s Catalog. With FM, I seem to be a gal who cain’t say no. It’s pathetic. Pathetic!:crying::rolleyes:

  • Patty says:

R, the FMs took me a while to find one I loved. Therese and En Passant and Une Rose (you une rose lovers hoosh, it just doesn’t smell good on me) just didn’t excite me, though En Passant is very intriguing and I predict I’ll eventually get a bottle since it’s doing the Fifi “Always on My Mind” trick.

Those candles, oh, swoooooon, I simple must have them, I think all of them, the Lady Rhubarb I almost missed. I don’t know if could bear to burn them, though. Do you get candles and not burn them, or just don’t get them at all?

Okay, off to pick up the six-footer at school. Only a half a year and he can drive himself back and forth.

    xoxo!

P.S.–Just made my email address change official!

  • violetnoir says:

Oops! So, so sorry for your loss, darling. But Lipstick Rose is indeed a good one, and will keep you in devoted company until the Iris Poudree arrives.

Those candles are gorgeous!!! Did you hear me? The Violet Must sounds amazing, too. I think you deserve it…but that’s easy for me to say, because, thankfully, I do not “burn.” What was the name of the woman with the cow who burned down Chicago? Mrs. O’Leary? I was that poor lady in a past life.

    Hugs!

  • Patty says:

March, I will happily send you some. You’ll have to start a new list because something else was on it. Rose de Nuit? Something else besides that. Hope you remember!

Doesn’t gripe? Hahahaha! We reached an agreement on my perfume buying, I can only spend as much as I sell, period. This keeps him shushed and me happily buying with some reasonable check on my excess.

The day he gives me his antique Mexican wine cabinet for my perfumes will be the day we read his will.

  • Patty says:

Victoria, I know what you mean. I can smell the old-fashioned in it, but it’s the kind of old-fashioned that immediately feels so comfortable. It will be glorious in spring and summer. Feels like bored ’50s housewives out for cocktails, and this is the smell and the lipstick prints they leave behind.

  • Patty says:

Robin, he’s so aware of my cheating ways with perfume, it won’t be news to him that I have been taking up with a new bottle. 🙂

  • marchlion says:

I can swap you — I have right here a bottle of Spezie…:rotfl:

  • marchlion says:

Ooooh, P, can I shamelessly beg for a taste of the Lipstick Rose, in my quest to find another rose I can stand? I’ll even IM your man and tell him you really NEED that candle, dangit! Of course he loves you enough – you buy frags and he doesn’t gripe, right? Although…. when’s he going to build you a custom cabinet to keep them in?

  • Victoria says:

I adore Lipstick Rose, but I have to admit that my affection for it was not spontaneous. At first, I found it too powdery and retro, yet in the summer I became drawn to it for some reason. Now, I graduated from a 5ml sample to a large bottle. Need I say more? 🙂

  • Robin says:

My sympathies on the loss of the Iris Poudre, and hope you & Lipstick Rose will be very happy together. Better not tell the dh until *after* you get the candle!
