If you are ever up in Vancouver, and I am, you have to stop in at The Perfume Shoppe and visit Nasrin. Any of you that have spoken to her on the phone, you know what a doll she is, but in person she is even better — warm and funny and a total perfume nut. She has a beautiful shop, and she replenished me on my PG Bois Blond and Ether Lilas, which I am afraid they won’t see the light on and add to the permanent collection. Anyway, we’re going to go out for lunch with her tomorrow or Saturday, and I can’t wait!
What else have I been doing in Canada? Catching up on Friday Night Lights via my video iPod. What? These trips for conventions are a snooze, and you can only check your e-mail so many times before you are out of your mind, and my laptop has been misbehaving and will only run about an hour or so before it overheats, and my new one didn’t get in in time before I left… and…and –well, anyway, anyone else watching that series? Since it’s on the verge of cancellation, I’m thinking no? Well, why not?? You should. It’s great, and it would be awful if something that is actually good and worth watching were taken off the air. I’ve been working my way through the series over the past two days, and it’s really done beautifully. Don’t avoid it or cringe because it’s about football, which is why I hadn’t watched it until now. It’s not really about football. It’s about all the life that goes on while people are busy thinking about football. Well, watch it, you’ll see.
Oh, Ether Lilas, I haven’t talked about that, have I? You know how the smell of lilacs can just knock you off your feet and be overwhelming? Well, it’s not like that. It’s the whiff of lilacs you get when you walk by on a spring/early summer night, light and heartbreakingly beautiful, but with all the other beautiful smells of a summer evening. This is the perfect spring/summer scent. I keep thinking I need to go find a beautiful sundress and a hat to wear it with. Okay, gotta dash before my computer croaks again!!!
Okay:
a) I love Nasrin and The Perfume Shoppe.
b) I haven’t been able to get this website (as well as NST and PST but not Aromascope or Bois De Jasmin) to show anything but the Monday post until today. I have to change the filter from Dirty Girls to the old PP to get all the posts I missed to show up. I’ve been deprived of reading material for almost a whole week! This clearly has something to do with my own computer, and yet I’ve been making ridiculous and probably incomprehensible comments to people via email, like: “Hmmm, not much perfume blogging going on, everybody must be doing their taxes.”
Holy Smokes Patty, I had no idea you were coming to Vancouver! Welcome to our fair (though drizzly) city!
I’m so glad you posted the description of Ethere. I have been panting after this one since I first saw it on the internet. My co-worker and I are planning a special visit to the Perfume Shoppe in a couple of weeks, and that is tops on my list to sample!
I hope the skies brighten for you the remainder of your stay, and that you have a wonderful time at lunch with Nasrin. She is a treasure, and we’re so lucky to have her shop here in Vancouver.
If I can make any recommendations on places to visit, just drop me an e-mail!:d
I happened to be at the Perfume Shoppe the other day and heard you were coming…your well-deserved reputation precedes you! I loved Ether de Lilas off the top but I found it strangely turned into guava on my skin (although Nasrin didn’t get that) Maybe it was the mandarin?
Let me know if you need info or anything whilst here in the blooming and fragrant Vancouver, I’d love to be touch with you.
Sounds like your Vancouver time is rocking. Lovely!
I’ve been very impressed with Friday Night Lights and am so sad that it’s probably going to be cancelled after one season. I think one of the reasons it hasn’t caught on more is that it can be uncomfortable to watch sometimes. They take the difficult issues and face them unflinchingly. I’ve taken to taping it and watching from the tape because the story can get so intense I occasionally need to walk away from it for a moment or two. In a time and place where television serves mainly as background noise, this show has been a welcome surprise.
Enjoying your trip, eh? 😉
Oh, so that’s why I have not heard from you, darling person. Don’t bother to even answer, because I figured out whatever it was I asked you. 😡
Sounds like Vancouver is the spot! Have fun at lunch with Nasrin (she sounds delightful), and have a safe trip back home.
No, I have not watched the series, but I did thoroughly enjoy the movie. And, guess what? I love football, too! Especially professional football. Now, if only LA would get a new football team…
Hugs!
Good to know I can score some Bois Blond just up the road from Seattle! I’ve not been to The Perfume Shoppe yet, but I have a feeling I might become a regular. I DO have to be in BC quite frequently for work, you know 😉
Patty, if you can get a reservation at Tojo’s for sushi, it’s amazing! It’s in Kitsilano in Broadway. Do not pass up the smoked sablefish. Vij’s has gorgeous Indian, and Tropika is the best Malaysian in the city. Bernard Callebaut chocolate can be found in Richmond, and it’s some of Canada’s best. What can I say, Patty? You’ve helped me find great fragrances – I’m thrilled to have a recommend or two for you. Enjoy!
At the beginning of my love of fragrance (around 14 did I truly start to collect), I thought I loved Lilac, the reality was I just really liked the color, Lilac is unfortunately one of those florals that is just too headacheingly sweet for me, but I suspect I need to give it another chance, time has passed and I now love the scent of Roses.
How fun! I was there once, very briefly, when I was just srarting out in my perfume hobby, and was a bit intimidated by everything. It is a cool shop! Awesome location, too. Enjoy!
I tried to order some samples frÃ¥n The Perfume Shoppe once but that was in November or so and last time I logged in my order was still “pending”. I’ve tried to contact them two or three times via the contact form and ask them to cancel my order completely but nothing happened and I got no reply… Just saying, because I’ve only heard rave reviews about the place too…
Oooooh!!!!! I have heard the most amazing things about that shop! I can’t wait to hear about your meal together! That is just the greatest.
I had Ether de Lilas in my online shopping basket at PG at least 5 times in the past two weeks and today is the last day… HELP, fellow perfume lovers, my time is up !!!
Shall I buy this unsniffed and satisfy this terrible lilac spring lemming of mine or go for Ineke’s After My Own Heart (which I smelled ages ago and liked but initially dismissed for some reason). Thought Un Lys would be the one, and it is lovely, but not what I had in mind. I want spring in a bottle. Thank you @};-
Ether was my favorite of the Limited Editions. I hope you are having a great time (sounds like you are!)! 🙂
Ether Lilas is truly gorgeous. Praying he sees these posts and realizes that they *do* need to make these part of the permanent line.
How cool that you got to go to the Perfume Shoppe! Enjoy Vancouver!
Hey Patty – have fun in Vancouver! I’m from there, been living in Maryland about a year now. I miss the mountains and water. I hope you get some good weather – Vancouver is so gorgeous when it’s not grey. Do check out the fragrance department at the Bay on Granville street – it’s pretty good.
So glad you went to Vancouver and met Nasrin. I had a wonderful time with her! She’s great! And Vancouver is a fun, too, if you can get away from your convention. Lots of great restaurants!
I do miss lilacs. The beautiful white lilac tree in our yard was one of the few cheery things about our six years in Maine. In a garden, lilacs don’t really knock you over. You have to step near them. They have a fresh sweetness. It sounds as if maybe Ether Lilas captured that. Darn.
I hope you enjoy Vancouver, Patty. Are you at the convention as participant or spouse? I’m guessing spouse, since you’re bored.
I know it’s petty of me, but we decided to boycott the TV version of Friday Night Lights because they moved it! It’s supposed to be in Odessa! That’s where the book and movie it’s taken from are set. But no, they had to move it to East Texas. Dagnabbit, I want my ugly hometown immortalized on TV too!
