Atelier Silver Iris Review

Okay, another winner for the new fall releases, Atelier Silver Iris.

atelier silver iris

I’ll give you my bias on iris perfumes first – I don’t find many bad iris perfumes as long as they are in a niche/mid-range, and I’ve found a lot of lower end iris perfumes that I think are just amazing as well.  Just head over to my Best Iris Perfume Comprehensive Guide to see my very long list of irisssesss that I love, love, love.  Yes, there is a vague Gollum-like “My Preccciouussss” intonation happening when I say Irisssessss.

Atelier Silver Iris is part of their new Collection Metal series. The second one, which I haven’t gotten my grimy, perfume hands on yet, is Gold Leather.  Silver Iris is the creation of Jerome Epinette, composed with the notes tangerine, pink pepper, blackcurrant, violet leaves, mimosa, iris pallida, patchouli, white amber and tonka bean.  If iris can sparkle, it absolutely does in this. The blackcurrant and tangerine give it a lightness that adds a bit of a purple-silver haze to the iris, sweetened a little by the floral notes, and the base notes support it beautifully without weighing it down.  For fans of the discontinued Guerlain Iris Ganache, the tonka in Atelier Silver Iris gives it a wee bit of iris pastry effect, but far less sweet than Iris Ganache. Hey, I was a big fan of the Iris Ganache, so I”m happy to see a much less dessert-like version of it peep its head up into the perfume line-up.

Atelier Silver Iris is smooth and beautiful and a joy to wear in any season – not too heavy and tinkly iris for summer, but that sweet little pastry effect would make it wear well during winter.  This is warm and smooth, not a cold, rooty iris at all. So if you aren’t a fan of Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist, but want a warmer iris, Atelier Silver Iris would be a good bet to try.

Atelier has been one of those new perfume lines that have continued to put out a steady stream of solid perfumes, making it easy to find on or more winners in the collection.

We have winners in the Kilian Playing with the Devil two drawings.  Sharyl Morris, poodeltwins, solanace, Kim B, PatriciaC, Beth and Lynne Marie. Click on the Drop us a Note at the top of the blog, remind me what you’ve won and give me your address, and I’ll give you a quick “got it” reply back so you know it didn’t get lost in the spam filter.

So update on my brother, and I thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and well wishes. As anyone who has dealt with a family member with a serious illness, it is the warmth of other people that truly lifts your spirits and lets you feel just a little less alone.  He was scheduled for surgery last Thursday in Atlanta, but the AC units went out after they put him under, but before they started the surgery. They couldn’t get them back up in time, so they scrubbed it for that day and will do the surgery this Friday.  He’s in great spirits and has a great team of doctors and nurses around him.  I was really impressed with the staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  I don’t know what I expected, but every person we came into contact with there was kind, warm, giving, and it is making a difficult time a lot better than if it was a sterile, cold hospital.

We will do a drawing for four of the Atelier Silver Iris samples. Just drop a comment talking about whatever you want, what fall new release you are most looking forward to or just anything, to be entered in the drawing!

  • Jan Last says:

Of course I meant the Silver Iris, I was still thinking about the question above and wondering if it is because the iris root is kind of gray.

  • Jan Last says:

I’ll be thinking about you and your family, neighbor. You are a strong woman, and I know you will be a comfort to the people around you. I hope all went well on Friday, and will be looking forward to your cheerful self soon. The Iris Silver Mist sounds right up my alley.

  • Ingeborg says:

I often like iris scents, they seem so good for the office. I love several of the scents from Atelier Cologne and will try to get a sample of this one at some point.

How awful for your brother having to wait for surgery, sending many good thoughts for him.

  • wefadetogray says:

I miss Iris Ganache, deeply and terribly so this sounds good to me. I love Iris!
All the best to your brother, for sure.

  • susan says:

Oh, lord, I am literally slathering at the bit for this one. I love Atelier Cologne! This fall I’m curious about Estee Lauder Modern Muse and the Mugler Liqueurs!

  • patriciaC says:

I will keep your brother in my prayers for a speedy recovery and total healing. May the Lord give him and all who love him comfort and peace in their hearts knowing God loves and is watching over them.

  • levinebabe says:

My fall wish is definitely Mugler Les Liqueur de Parfum line. Sounds very tempting!

  • Connie says:

Thinking of you and your family!
Iris is a note I haven’t quite gotten the hang of yet, but it intrigues me.

  • Beth says:

Wow, I’m sorry the surgery didn’t go. I can’t imagine getting myself all nerved up for surgery and waking up to see it not done yet. Good to hear he’s in such great spirits. Prayers to all of you going on this roller coaster ride!

Can someone tell me why so many of the Iris perfumes are named with grey in the title? Iris Gris, Silver, Mist, etc? I haven’t tried many yet, but I’m curious.

  • Sally McSweeney says:

All positive thoughts for your brother, you and your family, and of course, the medical team that will be looking after him.
I’ve never tried an Iris perfume but I do love the flowers and so am intrigued to smell this – I’d love to be included in the drawing, thank you.

  • hajusuuri says:

Best wishes to your brother for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

I love iris and I love Atelier Cologne so Silver Iris sounds just like the perfect scent to me. Thanks for the draw.

  • Jim says:

Will say a prayer for your brother and I hope you de-stress also. I remember sitting in the hospital waiting for the news…for hours and hours. Someone was watching out for me; a stranger came over with some coffee and sat to talk with me for 15 minutes or so. I never got to thank him, but I know how stressful waiting for news is!

  • CC ... says:

Oh I am so happy he is in good spirits … and that he has a wonderful support system. I will keep him and all your family in my thoughts and prayers…and continue to send well wishes to the universe for a most benevolent outcome. Thank you so much for the drawing, Patty. 🙂

  • Maureen says:

Many prayers and good thoughts for you and your brother. I Love Iris. I love Chanel # 19 Poudre, just wish it would last longer. Le Labo #39 was great, but my friends cat loved it so much she wanted to hump my hair. I’d love to try Silver Iris or Gold leather. Thanks for the drawing

  • Sapphire says:

This sounds like nice, easy one to wear. I am looking forward togetti g out my cold weather perfumes, but in Texas, that could take awhile. Hoping to try the Nest series at Sephora soon, too. Thanks for the drawing!

  • Sending positive thoughts to you and your brother. Atelier Cologne has put out some pretty solid scents. I really like several of them (I’m wearing Vanille Insensee today, as a matter of fact). I haven’t tried Silver Iris or Gold Leather yet, but I have high hopes for them. Thanks for the draw!

  • poodletwins says:

More prayers to your brother for his good health. The care and kindness shown during a hospital stay can make such a big difference. Im sitting on the fence about another iris, Infusion d’Iris by prada and I found Hiris by Hermes to be too lowkey for my tastes. I would love to try other irises since it is my favorite cut flower. Thanks!

  • Irina says:

will keep praying for your brother’s health

  • Monoatomic says:

With cooler weather pending (or already here?), I’ve been on vanilla and iris kicks. This one sounds lovely.

Best to your brother and family……

  • Janice says:

I love iris and have been looking forward to trying this one. I have been 28 La Pausa lately and am happily surprised it’s not quite as fleeting as I remembered.

So glad to hear your brother has a great and supportive medical team, and I’ll be sending good thoughts your way on Friday.

  • Musette says:

DNEM, of course, but I wanted to add my best wishes to your brother and your whole family. I hope I can be forgiven for giggling at what I imagine to be the scenario:
    Himself, flat-out;
    then…Himself, grogging awake.
Then Himself, Getting The News: “are you effin’ $#!((% me?” he says….hilarity ensues. Or not.

But given what a huge, fun spirit he seems to be, I’m betting on ‘hilarity’.

    xoxoA

  • fleurdelys says:

Thank you for the drawing! Iris is one of my newly-discovered notes, and my favorite iris fragrance is Hiris. I’m looking to try more iris perfumes. My best wishes go to your brother for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

  • Ann says:

Patty, just tried this one — it is really nice! And thanks for the update on your brother. So happy he has a great team to work with; that makes all the difference, as I know from my son’s month-plus hospital ordeal a few years ago. Will keep the prayers going up. Hugs to you …

  • This review is really interesting. I’m not really familiar with irises. Actually, I haven’t tried any iris scent before. I’m tempted to try this. Anyway, I will pray for the total recovery of your brother.

  • Glad to hear that your brother is doing better. I love several of the Ateliers— Grand Neroli is a staple, andTrefle Pur is TO DIE FOR on a man. I like almost all of them really. And have you tried their soaps? Try their soaps. The grand neroli is the best soap I’ve ever used AND has the added bonus of making a drawer of clothes smell amazing.

Like Tiara above, I won a sample of Shanghai Lily, and that’s my lemming at the moment. My god, it’s good stuff. I thought I might like it, but I didn’t dream that it would have me rethinking my whole collection… I could see it being something that I wore as a signature, and what good perfumista does that? Keep a signature scent I mean. I want to sell a bunch of stuff so I can afford a bottle.

  • Lynley says:

Patty, what terrible timing that a/c failure was! Hopefully all goes well on Friday. My dad has just been readmitted to hospital with complications from a lung transplant, so I know how horrible that wait is.

As far as iris perfume goes, I’ve recently acquired a fondness for iris, good for me, not so much for my credit card :-/ so I’ve been happily trying out different styles. This sounds like an addition to the list!

  • Tiara says:

Continuing the best wishes and prayers for your brother, you and your family.

    I

By the way, am loving the Tom Ford Shanghai Lily sample I won a few weeks ago. The sample is almost gone and I need to figure out what to do about more. Decant? Spring for a full bottle? Too gorgeous not to get it before some clown decides to discontinue it.

  • Jackie b says:

We should never take good health for granted, it is so important…I wish for a good outcome for your brother.
Be good to your loved ones, we came back from holiday to find a friend had died of a stroke, so you never know.

On a brighter, iris, note I have been reading about Silver Iris, and am mad about Oolong Infini, so would love to sample!

  • Elia says:

Good doctors are always a nice change, so many of them are curt and arrogant.
    Wishing the best.

  • Dina C. says:

    Patty,
So glad to hear that you are buoyed up by all the loving support. I’ll keep praying for your brother’s surgery and recovery. I am another iris lover, so I would love to win this drawing. Please enter me. Thanks! 🙂

  • leathermountain says:

Good people do make all the difference. I wish you and your family all the best.

Belle, I’ve never smelled an iris, and not for lack of trying. I think the powdery amazingness of iris perfume materials only comes through after the plants are processed in various ways. Or it could be a question of the variety of iris. I’m sure the ones in my area are bred for looks and not scent. Or maybe it’s a combination of the two things.

I am looking forward to coming home at the end of the day. One day at a time. 🙂

  • Belle says:

It’s great that you brother and the team are good! Good caretakers make me feel not as nervous, which I think is pretty important. How do irises smell like? Are they super powdery? Never have smelled any form of it in my life yet.

  • Barbara says:

First day of school today here. Parents and both teenagers zombie-like. Bathroom wars begin!

I’ve found most hospital employees to be genuinely kind. Best wishes for your brother and the family as well.

  • G. says:

I am so happy that your brother is feeling better now, and that he’s received great treatment from the hospital staff. My father has been in and out of the hospital very often recently, and the personal touch from the hospital staff can make a great deal of difference.

  • edpgypsy says:

Hi, hoping for the best for you, your family and brother during this difficult time!

I love Iris! It sounds just perfect to me and I would love to win! Thank you!

  • Kim B says:

I have finally been exploring the Atelier Cologne line and am excited about their new releases – I am an iris fan as well!
thanks for the draw – would love to be in it
glad to hear your brother is in good spirits – all the best for the coming surgery/

  • Mary P. says:

Thanks for the update and wishing your brother, you and your family well. I would love to try this, thanks for entering me into the draw.

  • ncmyers says:

Healing thoughts to your brother! I hope it goes well Friday. Just had a lovely weekend with family and friends and I feel very grateful. The new Atelier iris sounds amazing!

  • eldarwen22 says:

Out of all of the iris dominant perfumes that I have tried (so far), I probably love Silver Iris Mist. I love that hissy, carroty opening. Infusion d’Iris is pretty good but just doesn’t quite do it for me most days.

It’s good that your brother has really good doctors.

  • Maren says:

How reassuring to feel confident in your brother’s care. Sending good thoughts your way. And I think I would just love this, as I love iris in all it’s variations, but the touch of mimosa in this really catches my interest. Crossing my fingers on this draw!

  • FeralJasmine says:

Many thoughts and prayers for your brother and all around him.

I love iris, but only the warmer incarnations, not the steely ones. This one sounds great.

  • Bridget C says:

Will keep your family in my thoughts this week. I know the delay must have been tough to handle but everything happens for a reason.

I happen to LOVE atelier incensee and infini and I am a big fan of desserty warm scents, so here’s hoping I am the lucky one drawn.

  • Nemo says:

It is wonderful that your brother has such a great support team, including his family. Best wishes to all of you for Froday!

Silver iris sounds lovely 🙂 I am ambivalent about iris so far, but I haven’t tried any warm or dessert-y ones yet. Thank you for the draw.
