So today once again Los Angeles will be greeting the arrival of the lovely and talented Portia Turbo-Gear. This time Portia is with her partner and a friend. She had sort of made loose plans to get together for dinner (but if I were her after bazillion hour transcontinental flight that with the time zones means that you arrive in Los Angeles five hours before you left Sydney, I think the only thing I’d be good for would be a moderately large drink, a long shower and bed. But we’ll see. Of course, the first thought was “what shall I wear?” Not clothes, mind you (but you knew that, you clever boots, you..) but scent. Since it’s a coolish day here in the city of the fallen angels I was leaning towards Muscs Kublai Kahn or maybe using up my sample of Opus VII. I’d as you, dear readers for suggestions, but since this will post after any putative meeting will take place, I’ll content myself with posting either pictures, an update, or both.
One of the nicest things about Portia is her sense of wonderment about everything and her joy. I love showing people around Los Angeles and last time she was here we spent the whole of the week wandering around. Everything from High Toned window shopping on Melrose Place to the 99-Cent store and practically everything in between. I’ve had friends grump out at LA’s notorious traffic, it’s sometimes unattractive boulevards and sometimes just the fact that is so dauntingly huge. It all just rolled off Portia
Unfortunately, there won’t be much touring from me this time unless they rented a car. The venerable Cadillac had an expensive repair coming up that would have been more that the car was worth and more that I could justify, since it had been so long since I had used it the battery died. Since the car was given to me I decided to just pay it forward and donate it to KLCS, our local PBS station. Maybe it’ll help keep This Old House on the air.
But I digress..
I think I are my mind up. MKK it is.
And remember, if your in the LA area we will be at ScentBar Wednesday, November 19th from 5-7 PM. Kilian Hennessy will be there )swoon!)

I went to LA this summer and I can recommend soaking at Beverly Hot Springs which is not too far from Scent . I had such a fabulous day soaking and then perfume sniffing
MMMMM That sounds lovely TheGoddessRena,
Jin would be very happy to soak there.

Koreatown dead??? you needed a better guide
We went on our own and there was nothing happening. No shops, no street market, almost no excitement except some restaurants and a very few bars that seemed empty to the point ofd equal staff customer ratio.
It was really dismal, yes we needed someone who knows the ground.

Wish I was there with all of you. It sounds like great fun! Can’t wait to read the recap at a later date.
Hey Kandice,

Hey Tom,
Well we have been all over LA today. The Hotel is on Sunset so we drove all over Sunset, visited a mate in WeHo, dinner on Hollywood at the Buffalo Wings Sports bar watching American football, down to Chinatown (dead) up to Koreatown (also dead) then back to Hollywood Blvd to see the 10.45pm showing of Interstellar at the Chinese Theatre. Now to sleep, 2.40am and we are off to Disneyland tomorrow at Sparrow’s Fart.
Can’t wait to see you on Saturday.

What fun — hope you all have a great time! BTW, I wonder what fragrances Mickey, Minnie and Donald would wear? 🙂
