Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Noir

lacosteNow I am a big fan of Lacoste. I’ve been wearing the shirts since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I have never however really gone for any of the ancillary products. Although I cannot face life without a few Lacoste shirts (pink, purple and navy are favorites) I have never fallen before, say sneakers. Or for that matter scents. But, I am a member of the Amazon Vine program, where you review stuff they send you for free. Usually books, but I’ve gotten products from laundry soap to razor blades. This month I was offered a bottle of Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Noir.

Naturally being a total snob I was prepared to loathe it. Especially when I read the notes on Amazon: “Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Noir is an intense, refreshing fragrance inspired by warm summer evenings; refreshing watermelon and lively basil intensified by patchouli, all beautifully wrapped in the smooth texture of dark chocolate.

First off, this is about as intense as an episode of “Newhart.” I don’t get watermelon, but I do get basil and since that is one of my favorite scents on the planet I was happy. the patchouli is a whisper and the dark chocolate is a shadow. There isn’t a lot of development in this and the lasting power isn’t great. But it’s a nice fragrance that’s worth looking at, especially at the price point and certainly as a gift for someone starting out in the world of scent.

Would I buy it? Me? Mr. Skank Monster? Have we met?

It’s like a really nice, fresh, honest salad. I appreciate but wonder when my black and blue pepper encrusted steak is coming..

I told you, total snob..

Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Noir is $69 for 100ML at Amazon, sephora and seemingly everywhere else in the solar system. Mine was free from Amazon Vine.

I agree with leenie2. That comment was hilarious! Fun review!

Newhart comment made me laugh so hard I had a coughing fit.

  • You are hilarious. I think it might be an excellent non perfumista present though. The bottle is so cool and I can see the gym junkies whipping it out and having a change room spritz after their shower.
Basil, interesting. If I see it I’ll sniff it.

Well, most men’s colognes are just gross in my opinion unless it’s the original Lagerfeld or a coule of the other oldies. Oh or a smooth Creed. This ones reads gross just hearing about it. Glad it was ok for you! Testing freebies sounds much more exciting ! How does that work?!

I liked it. I don’t think I’d buy it but that’s because I have a collection. As far as the testing freebies deal I think it’s by invitatation; my years of writing snarky reviews apparently wrangled me one. It’s usually books; this is the first perfume related one.
