By Kilian Single Malt was made for Harrod’s in London. I, of course, could never explain why, nor am I guessing anyone cares about that part of it.
What you do need to know about By Kilian Single Malt is it’s a boozier Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, and that is a very good thing. Notes of wheat, plum, vanilla, tolu and cedar are the listed notes I can find. The wheat absolute gives it a nice earthy tobacco’ish bent, but better. Yes, I’m a wheat slut. If anyone ever pairs that with daphne, I will just.die.
Kilian Single Malt opens very strongly boozy vanilla, which is lovely, and it’s those first few minutes that makes it very Tobacco Vanille/Back to Black. Strong vanilla bursts, smoky tobacco. As this starts drying down, the wheat, plum and tolu change it into something else, and the strength of it gives way to those notes, keeping it out of the too much of a clone of either of those. The plummy wheat combination is lovely. Dark, smokey, and earthy grit. I’m not sure I get as much booze in the drydown, but I’m not a malt kind of girl and really don’t know much about any resemblance to that. It has lots of booze on the open, but settles into a lowkey booze for me.
This is one of my favorite Kilians, which is hard to say when I have a lot of favorites in this line.

My favourite Kilian (and my favourite boozy frag) is Straight to Heaven. It smells gorgeous on my better half and although he barely ever wears it, that’s the scent I associate with him.

I don’t have a favorite Killian perfume. Right now the boozy scent that is rocking my world is Slumberhouse’s Kiste. It’s like drunk peach cobbler. Amazing.

Somewhat amusing — I don’t drink (no beer, wine, liquor, etc) but I LOVE boozy notes in perfume. I don’t smoke, either, but love, love, love tobacco scents. Go figure…..?
I love the boozy-ness of Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, the Mugler Liqours (Angel & Alien – aged in Oak casks….yum!), Paco Rabanne XS Extreme Girl (boozy and tobacco), Sonoma Scent Studios Tabac Aurea (boozy and tobacco), Vivienne Westwood Anglomania (Roses and Red Wine), Ginestet Botrytis (honey wine).
Those are some favorites.

That was a really interesting scent. It reminded me of chocolate cherries with liquor inside.
My favorite boozy scent is the same as my favorite By Kilian – Straight to Heaven. It get mentioned so rarely, but I find it terribly sexy.
I liked Lush’s Voice of Reason for the boozy category.

Note Vanille (now spelled Vanillee–why?!) is my favorite boozy scent. And my favorite vanilla scent. As for BK scents, I’ve only sampled a few and haven’t yet been moved to buy a full bottle. Love & Tears is the one I reached for most often.

Oh my goodness. I love this review and am so happy to find any mention of this new Kilian fragrance. Why it’s exclusive to Harrod’s, I too, have no idea. But it sounds so amazing. I hope it appears stateside…eventually? I’m a Scotch drinker and so to have one of my favorite perfume houses to create a single malt scent is beyond intriguing for me. Beyond delightful! My favorite Kilian scents are Straight to Heaven: White Cristal; Love: Don’t Be Shy; Intoxicated, Light My Fire, Smoke for the Soul, and many other Kilian scents.

I haven’t tried any By Kilian but I have tried Espresso Royale Sebastiane and love the coffee rum scent.

I don’t have any booze fragrances, but I’m an absolute tart for scotch. If customs had opened my suitcase when I came home from Scotland, they’d have tossed me in jail. Quite unfair, really…what the Hell else do you by in Scotland???
Now tobacco vanilla perfumes are right in my wheelhouse. I just got an Odori tobacco and it is glorious. Tabac Blonde is pretty good…and I want to try more. Whoop! I’ve been dying to try By Killian, and it sounds like this is just swell.
