Dior Sauvage

sauvageOkay, I am perfectly willing to admit that I am a cranky old man and a total snob. There I said it (well, to be accurate, I typed it.) Having written that, I have to quote the marketing hype from the Dior website for their newest scent for men, Sauvage.

A radically fresh composition, with a powerful name that speaks for itself. That was the way François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator, wanted it: raw and noble all at once.
Natural ingredients, selected with extreme care, prevail in excessive doses.
Radiant top notes burst with the juicy freshness of Reggio di Calabria Bergamot. Ambroxan, derived from precious ambergris, unleashes a powerfully woody trail.
Sauvage is an act of creation inspired by wide-open spaces. An ozone blue sky sprawled above a rocky landscape, white-hot beneath the desert sun.

It’s not that I hate the stuff, it’s actually a fairly inoffensive little thing that is about as “sauvage” as your average tabby. It opens with a bright citrus, goes through some pepper then starts getting into some serious chemicals. I’m sure that it’s going to be popular, and will be received as gifts by many men from their significant others.

I’m just not interested in it at all. I’ll stick with the Eau Sauvage, thanks.

Available practically everywhere, $72 for 2 ounces. My sample was asked for and received from Sephora in the Beverly Center.

    Portia, you’re too funny!

  • Persolaise says:

Yes, I’d agree that Sauvage is offensive… but only just! I almost wish it were offensive. At least that way it would have been polarising. As it is, it’s just a hyped-up, glossy, well-packaged *nothing*.

    • Persolaise says:

Sorry, obviously, what I meant to write was: “I’d agree that Sauvage is inoffensive” 😀 Freudian slip??!?!?!

  • Portia says:

Everyone is putting an S where the V should be.
    SAUSAGE!!!
    Ha Ha Ha Ha!
    Portia xx

  • A says:

Eau Sauvage smells like between a cross between weird herbal throat drops (Ricola type) gone bad and furniture polish on me. Maybe it is a chemistry thing.

  • Barbara B says:

Eau Sauvage was one of the first fragrances I bought many years ago. Reading bad reviews of the Dior Sauvage makes me want to revisit it!
