One for the guys — happy Father’s Day

guys
Happy Father’s Day to you dads, and to all you great guys out there — we love you! Speaking of guys, have you gotten your favorite any fragrance lately?

I used to buy DH fragrance occasionally, but except for some after-shave and special occasions, he rarely wears it. But yum, when he does!!

My fave on him is Dolce and Gabbana’s oldie but goodie classic Pour Homme. I’ve tried it on me but it’s not so hot. One I’ve gotten him small sizes of and I love, especially in cooler weather, is Victor & Rolf Spicebomb. It’s a cozy, yummy scent that’s always pleasing. And in colder months, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Stash is also nice for us both (and I like to change it up by layering with different vanilla scents).

And of course, there are so many great fragrances that are great on guys and easily shared, such as Christian Dior’s Eau Sauvage, SL’s Fumerie Turque and MKK, and 4711, and so many more which escape me right this moment.

So what about you? What are your favorite scents on your guy or guys? What of his/theirs do you like to borrow and wear or just buy it and enjoy it for yourself? Or what (fragrant and otherwise) memories do you have of your father?

On my husband, I love Lanvin Avant Garde, which Fragrantica says “Its top notes combine Italian bergamot, Madagascar pepper, pink peppercorn and juniper. The heart is composed of lavender, nutmeg, cardamom and beeswax. Intensive vetiver blends with benzoin, tobacco and Georgywood molecule in the base.”…but what I love about it on him is the tobacco, it’s amazing! I tried it on myself, but it doesn’t work on me. Also, not long ago I bought myself a sample of Sigilli Electra, which Fragrantica describes “Top notes: amber and sage. Heart: amber, leather, woods and benzoin. Base: musk, patchouli, incense and labdanum.” It was too masculine on me, so I let my hubby try it, and OMG, YUMMY!!! It’s fantastic on him! If I could figure out how to get a FB, I would strongly consider it 🙂

Yay, Rosemary! It sounds like you have found some wonderful stuff for your DH! I have never smelled either but they sound great. Have you tried Surrender to Chance or another decanting service? Maybe they have it and you can get him a nice decant.

My dad has never been the cologne/aftershave kind of guy. If he is going out somewhere with my mother (fancier than normal dinner or to a play) he might wear Cool Water if he remembers. Nobody in my family except me is really into perfume and wears it every day.. Once in a while my mother will spray on Beloved or her beloved Dolce Gabanna stuff.

    • Ann says:

Eldarwen, you are the family perfumista and have to carry the standard, ha! But at least he’ll wear a little something now and again. And your mom has good taste (thanks to you, I suspect), especially with the Beloved — what a wonderful scent! You’ve reminded me to go get a sniff of my little sample.

  • Connie says:

I’ve always been very attached to smell as a sense, and I remember sniffing my parents when I was younger and telling them “You smell like Mom” or “You smell like Dad.”
Luckily Dad does wear the things I buy for him (notably Comme des Garcons Black) and I also give him a lot of the masculine perfume samples I have- a favorite is Victrix by Profumum.
And when I started doing perfume design one of my first scents was inspired by him (he has a bottle of it that’s almost empty) and our shared love of my herb garden, cooking, and Provence’s garrigue.

I made a big but still nowhere near exclusive list on my own blog of a bunch of the things I like about him: https://listmimsy.wordpress.com/2017/06/18/whos-your-daddy/

    • Ann says:

Oh, how cool is this, Connie?! Love that he wears those things and has his own “bespoke” perfume, and even cooler that it’s created by his darling daughter! Way to go!

My father wore Old Spice. To this day, to me it is the ultimate in masculinity.

    • Ann says:

An oldie but goodie, indeed! I think my grandfather had a bottle of that once, if I’m remembering correctly — kind of a creamy white, almost cone shape, right?

    • Paige W says:

My grandfather wore Old Spice every day. I associated the scent to him so closely that when I was small I used to almost be able to smell it when we would talk over the phone! I love it to this day.

  • Troy says:

My Dad always wore Brut. More Brut, and occasionally Aramis. I’ll bet if he ever smelled Cabochard he would never have worn Aramis again. Nor would he have worn Cabochard either. When I was a teenager I gave him a bottle of Lagerfeld classic. He wore it once and gave me the bottle back. He knew he’d never wear it again and said he didn’t want it to go to waste. Went back to his old reliable Brut.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Troy! Ah, yes, I remember good ‘ol Brut, in that tall green bottle. At least he was honest about the Lagerfeld. Folks like what they like, though, right?
