Heya Posse Perfumistas, La Collection Privée is now called Maison Christian Dior. Just FYI. Gris Montaigne has been called Gris Dior since 2017. Nothing stays the same and very little lasts for a decade, let alone forever. Gris Montaine was long on the To Buy List in its four year tenure but sadly that never happened. I do have a 125ml Gris Dior bottle though and it’s half empty, bought about three quarters full from a Sale Doc on FB. It’s one of those easy spritz and go fragrances for me like CHANEL Boy, Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele and Cacharel Amor Amor. Beautiful, fun and I know I’ll smell low key good for hours.
From DIOR: A unisex eau de parfum that plays with contrasts, Gris Dior reveals the boldest nuances for those who wear it. Regal fragrance, scent of elegance, which the color gray represents at Dior, it encapsulates the spirit of the House and stands today as the icon of La Collection Privée Christian Dior.

Gris Dior is lovely. A low key waft of scent that doesn’t interfere with my cognition and lets out timid huffs of prettiness. It holds its relation to the chypres of old like a McDonald’s burger to an old fashioned corner store burger. They are called the same thing but worlds apart in taste, texture and chutzpah.
My scent experience is hardly related to the regular note list too. Opening spritz is a bright, berry heavy rose, tart but not jammy. As we head to the heart we get a lovely rich jammy rose and the patchouli makes itself known. It’s a clean, shorn patchouli like the radiant florals of the early 2000s. Gris Dior also has a little of that radiance. This heart is what remains for me for most of the wear. Lovely and so comfortable. We speak often of favourite T Shirt, Jeans or Jumper scents. That is how Gris Dior makes me feel.

Dry down is a warm patchouli woods still with memories of the roses. It feels beautifully structured, especially for something so ethereal. If Gris Dior was amped up to 20 times the size I think it would smell like those supercharged shower gels: LUSH Rose Jam I’m looking at you. In this soft focus level it feels nurturing and yet fecund. A perfect spring wear that will fit ballroom, office and BarBQ.
Patty wrote about Gris Montaigne when it was first released in 2013.
Have you tried Gris Dior? What did you think?

I have too many rose/patch things. This sounds super pretty though.
HA! Too many rose/patch things is me too Alityke. Here they run the gamut from super dark oudish adventures to Gris Dior.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried Gris Dior. This line was never available around here, we’re a small market. Rose + patchouli is a wonderful combination so I suppose I’d love this perfume.
Bummer that you can’t get to a DIOR Privèe counter Neva. It’s quite an experience.

Oooh, I love that line about the burger. But now I want the scent AND a Counter burger.
I love that line too, but when I hear McDonald’s, I want a Big Mac and fries. LOL but true!
STAHPP!!! You’re both making me hungry!!!
You are HILARIOUS Musette.
Glad the line hit home Tom. LOVE a corner store burger, but like Maya I’ll happily eat McDonald’s.

Vintage Dior is great! Most of the newer ones I have tried are nice for spritz and go but they need to be priced accordingly. I must admit though that I love the rose and patchouli combo, overdone or not. Your post reminded me to wear my Heeley Hippie Rose today. I will keep my eye out for a sample of Dior Gris too.
Yes, vintage DIOR is fabulous Maya. I have a few from pre-2000 and love them.
Gris Dior might be a bit too low key if Hippy Rose is your jam.

I haven’t paid much attention to Dior ever since I missed out on getting a bottle of Diorling when I had the chance. I am working on putting pennies aside for a bottle of Miss Dior original.
Hey Eldarwen22,
Bummer about Diorling. I never knew it. was it perfection?

This doesn’t sound like “me” but boy does it sound lovely. I love those tee shirt scents that are just sooooooo comfortable and reliable and allow you to get on with your life without shouting for attention.
Yep! My favorite is No5, which always feels like a mace wrapped in silk velvet – very comfortable
“a mace wrapped in silk velvet”. Is that like Steel Magnolias – an iron fist in a velvet glove? 😉 🙂
Yes. But even more lethal
Agreed March,
There are times for confrontational perfumes and times to just smell good without making a bold statement. More and more the smell nice is winning for me.

I’m there, too, Portia. More and more I just want to smell good, not ‘interesting’ or ‘startling/ etc’! It’s… weird.
Weird but not weird smelling.
Portia,
Thanks for keeping us up to date on the Dior house nomenclature. I haven’t tried this or really any of this exclusive, Prive, lux, whatevertheywanttocallit line. It sounds yummy! Rose + patchouli is such a winning combination.
Hey DinaC,
I’m surprised you haven’t his the DIOR Privèe line. There are some really good scents in there, and some dogs.

I would like to browse my way through this whole line. Which means being somewhere it is stocked (not here in la la land). There are so many permutations of rose jam things — ie, rose and fruit and then woods.
Heya Cinnamon,
I do love to hit the DIOR Privèe counter. Can spend a happy hour there sniffing them all. So fun.
