An Elusive Travel Set, and A Little Trashy

I tried to buy this 4-bottle travel set a few months ago – the Maison Lancome travel set which holds 2 bottles of the Jasmins Marzipanes, plus the Lavandes Trianon (lavender, which I liked way more than I thought I would), and the Tubereuses Castane.  I ordered it from Macy’s, and when it arrived, I realized they’d sent the Oud set.  Dammit.  So I returned that, and re-ordered, and…. got the Oud set again, at which point the floral set had disappeared from all other websites including Nordstrom.  I was bummed.  It occurred to me to google it last week and – woohoo! – it’s back in stock at Macy’s for the holidays.  Mine hasn’t arrived yet but I’m SURE it will be the floral set, right?  LOL I can’t believe I ordered from those mopes again.  Anyway it’s 1.6oz for $115ish, on sale now.  (Regular price is $135.)  You can get one of the big 3.4s for $200ish, which is a better buy, but I don’t want one big bottle of one of them if I can have smaller bottles of three different scents, amirite?  I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime I’ve found myself in various department stores sniffing various fancy things, but the thing I’ve sprayed on several times now is – wait for it – Black Opium from YSL.  I should be ashamed, right?  I mean, hopefully Patty doesn’t read this or she’ll kick me off the blog.  Black Opium, of all things.  Sheesh.  Luca Turin gave it one freaking star.  Also, a quick visit to Fragrantica shows 15 flankers.  Fifteen, for a  thing that didn’t even launch until 2014.

So, yeah, I’ll cheerfully admit that it’s insipid fruity-floral dreck, and I don’t care.  I’m not going to waste any money buying it, but if a bottle fell into my lap I’d wear it, absolutely.  Maybe not to work – it’s a sillage monster judging by the SAs’ reactions.  Maybe they’re just nauseated by it, who can say.

Your turn to fess up!  You have a bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy, or D&G Light Blue or Carolina Herrera Good Girl or something equally cheesy, and you wear it!  Tell me in comments what it is, and whether you wear it on the down low or admit it to your loved ones.

Peanut,  I’ll check with Andy and see if they have your florals – you really should Always Call Andy First (or text him).

Omgosh – Cheesy Loves:  well, not  cheesy, but definitely mainstream:  Clinique Happy.  I don’t wear it myself because something blooms awry on my skin – but omg!  I LOVE SMELLING IT!  I have followed women up and down the grocery aisle like a huntin’ dog, sniffing their sillage!

Hi, dear! Hope you get the right set this time — sheesh! Loved that Lancome tuberose. And I kinda like that Black Opium too because of the coffee, so

when I’ve worn it I’ve layered it with a high-octane coffee scent to help bring that note out. Hey, we like what we like and it’s all good, right?

    Hugs!

I’m kinda enjoying the Armani Sí rollerball I picked up at Sephora.

I adore Ralph Lauren Turquoise and love the bottle too!  Been proudly wearing it off and on for years.  So there!

I don’t have too many cheapies. I gave a lot of them away since they didn’t quite fit. I have Lolita Lempicka, the original one, Kiehl’s Original Musk Blend and Courtesan right now for my cheapies.

  • Tara C says:

Hmmm, my cheap fun scents are vanilla gourmands from Kyse Perfumes. Stuff that smells like crème brûlée, marshmallow, candied lavender and rose, not to mention Bath & Body works lotions in similarly sickeningly sweet scents.  Those are my guilty cheap pleasures.

That’s a cute little Lancome set, I hope you eventually get the right one, I have bottles of all 3 of them and enjoy them a lot.

Guilty Pleasures is right.  I don’t understand folks who pay TOP DOLLAR for something that smells like marshmallow fluff, when you have so many alternatives….

I have a number of celebrity scents that I really enjoy – SJP covet and Adam Levine for Her, eau de Gaga are probably the tops.  Found them all at Marshall’s for cheap.  Good luck with the Maison Lancome set.  I have had it in my Macy’s cart for weeks and I just can’t bring myself to buy even at the sale price because I’m a little overwhelmed by my current collection.

Yeah, well, we will see if it ever shows up!   I really should track down the Gaga…. some of those celebrity scents are fun.  And I can relate to the overwhelm!

      • Elle says:

I love eau de Gaga, esp. in the spring & summer. It’s lovely and the top notes have a nice burst of lime peel, which reminds me of marguerita cocktails. There’s some leather (more like suede) in the drydown. I have a working bottle & 2 BUBS.

There’s an Escada something or other I have a good sized sample of–one of those summer exclusives, Turquoise Summer or something? The marketing around it is all really stupid, but it’s got this great green mango note that I cannot get enough of.

    • March says:

Ha, the Escadas!  I had and wore one of those for awhile!  Hey, if it’s got a great mango note, that’s hard to find.
