I feel like such a FanGirl, but Dolly Parton is doing a fragrance?!?!
She’s only doing samples now, but Scent from Above will be available in July. And that bottle, it’s SO Dolly!
Notes of Mandarin, Blackcurrant, Crisp Pear, Fresh Peony Blossom, Jasmine, Lilly-of-the-Valley, Vanilla Orchid, Sandalwood, Fir, Musk, Tonka Bean, Amber, Patchouli.
I mean, I’m sure it’s going to be just like Dolly, and for me that is a great thing. I have loved her since I was a girl and she sang on Porter Wagoner’s show. I don’t know if I really liked her music back then – probably not – but I loved her. She was so big and so fake on the outside, but there was just all this realness that came oozing out of the big hair and big boobage. She was and is fabulous.
3 ml sample is like 9.95, no postage. I just cannot wait to try this!
I perused around the internets the other night and found all the new things. There are a few new Yohjis coming out for the perfectly unreasonable price of $190 for 50 mls. I really want to try them, but I am not springing that kind of cash for that. Then Bulgari has those new Allegras at $230 for 100 mls, and the bottles are cute, but weird. And now I’m rethinking my bitching about the Guccis. At least they provided a great bottle and packaging with their lovely but not really remarkable fragrances. Anyone tried these?
Are we to the point now where sub-200 is basically reasonable in perfume instead of the sub-100 is reasonable? I’ve noted even mainstream stuff is over $100, nearing 100. Lancome La Vie est Belle has this cute bottle and flanker, and it’s $100 for 50 mls, and more for 100 mls. And when did Penhaligon’s start charging $200 for a bottle?
Are we just dumb for paying this? Don’t answer, of course we are. Is it too much to hope Dolly’s perfume will be under $100? Yes, I’m sure it will be at 100 or over.
But I don’t care, I don’t care if it’s awful or blah, I love her and I will love this. So is there one person that could make a perfume that you would like no matter what?
Y’know, I would not be surprised if Dolly’s full bottle came out at less than a hundred bucks. She has always made her brand accessible…though one of my favorite Dolly quotes is “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!”
I’ve always been a perfume lover on a shoestring, but that poor string can’t take the current price of perfume. I need new glasses desperately and with all my eye issues they will cost over $1000, how is there any $ left for perfume! I love Dolly, big time, but I’m not in the market right now. As far as people doing a perfume – Stanley Tucci is having a moment right now, I’d like to smell what he and a marketing committee could come up with. But I still probably wouldn’t buy it.
I’m joining the bandwagon on how stupid expensive scents have become. I totally agree. Another company that still offers a great little 30 ml size for only $51 is Parfums de Nicolai (at Luckyscent). Why, oh why, can’t all fragrance companies realize that we would buy MORE if they gave us this option?!? And yes, Dolly is an awesome person with her children’s literature foundation and her fantastic music and salt-of-the-earth personality. Love her!
You know, though I had to buy a 100 ml of New York Intense for the store recently, and it like $200! I mean, that one is probably worth it. I’m glad they still offer the small bottles, more companies should do that, it’s just dumb. Nobody needs 100 mls of anything anymore.
My niece and Nephew both get their monthly book, and they love the. Such a great program. I heard she also gave a bunch of money as a grant to local Nashville schools for extra tutors in the early grades to make sure every child was reading when they were done with 3rd grade, and it happened. Such a critical thing – reading skills are the building blocks to everything!
Hmmm, I don’t know if there’s someone whose perfume I’d want no matter what. No one comes to mind immediately. Ah, I lie: did Prince do a perfume? Prices are loopy. I really appreciate companies (like Le Labo — I appear to be a broken record) that offer smaller sizes which cause less pain to the pocket even if you get less juice. I’ve been looking at CBIHP samples and they are silly money (plus paying shipping and potentially customs on top). Could potentially be looking at £100 for 3 samples… And I too adore Dolly.
I want to say Prince did, but now I’m not sure. did Raquel Welch ever do one? I’d also go for hers as well. I’m old school that way. I don’t think any current young musician or actor/actress would work for me. Maybe Ryan Gosling for a guy or Matthew McConnaughy (sp and tool lazy to go look it up)
hey Patty!
LOVE Dolly! So much. She is a freaking wonder woman.
Can’t wait to try Scent From Above and will adore it no matter what.
If Whitney Houston/Sandra Bullock/Tom Cruise or Luke Evans did a fragrance I would be the same.
Already having Cher, Rhianna, Britney, SJP and One Direction they don’t count anymore, eh?
Portia xx
Same, same, same – she glories in her tacky so much that it makes it glam, and she just kills it in the work department even now.. Even if it is awful – and it won’t be, though it might be just okay – I don’t care, I will wear it and love it. yeah, I’d do those as well. Maybe even Bruce Willis because that could be interesting. And Clint Eastwood for sure. Did he ever do one? Willie Nelson as well!
Sophia Loren, and it would have ambergris, civet, and patchouli for starters.
Oh, yeah, definitely her. I was always surprised at the Deneuve perfume. I like it, but it didn’t seem like her as much, though it probably did because, we don’t really know these people at all! just our idea of them.
I was alerted to the Dolly perfume sample, and now that I see the bottle! Dolly is fabulous and I hope her perfume is as well. I wonder who the perfumer is?
I don’t know. I think I read it somewhere. Hopefully we’ll get more information on that later. I keep thinking she is so girly, she must love perfume like we do, so it should be good!
Alas, I don’t think I am paying over $100 for anything perfume anymore (or probably not much over $100) because I have enough perfume for 2 full lifetimes. But that is an adorably fabulous bottle! And I, too, love Dolly! xoxoxo
Yeah. If I didn’t do what I do, I’d be in the same spot. At first the over 250 stuff was amusing because it was rare, and now it just all seems to be in that over 200 range, and that just seems stupid. Dolly is a treasure. A few years ago, she was doing concerts, and I wasn’t paying attention and missed her when she was in Denver. I’m still so mad about that. She is one person I’d go way out of my way to see live.
I have no idea if I will like Dolly’s fragrance or not, but I want that bottle! Just ordered the trial size today.
As for perfume prices, yes they are completely crazy, I have to really love something a lot to pay over $200. I’m trying to be a lot more particular about what I buy since I already have too much.
Yeah, that bottle is so cute!
I’m trying to make those decisions. Some of the new stuff that is that high, I just wait, hoping it will filter out, and see if it gets raves. So much overpriced stuff that isn’t worth it at THAT price, but I’d totally be interested in at something reasonable.
