Maison Margiela From the Garden (Replica series)

Because I always have to tell you about the weather here, I will say it rained cats, dogs and unicorns last Monday which after all our beautiful weather prior to that it was shocking and unfair, even if the plants liked it and I didn’t have to water the garden last week.

Now, it is back to glorious — at least for a bit. Warm and sunny, and the plants are very happy indeed. Having to do a lot of staking to keep them from flopping, they are growing so fast.

Anyway, today, we’re focusing on the second of the samples I got in the order with the rather disastrous Frederic Malle with Acne Studios.

Just to be clear, I bought this utterly and completely based on the name. You’ve been warned.

So, From the Garden.

This is … oh, my, oh, yes, oh oh oh.

Sometimes you have no expectations at all and you put something on and the brain goes waga waga waga (or similar).

I sprayed this on with literally no expectations on the day after the deluge, when the sun was trying (it was really trying) and was basically blasted with delight.

This is the best, the very best, first tomato leaf and soil from the greenhouse/garden on the first really hot day of summer.

I sprayed it on and thought hmmm, not sure, and then two minutes later it was this blast of perfect vegetal lushness.

I have never tried this line (Replica – or even any other Margiela things). What a mistake (if this is any indication). Huge.

The notes list implies fairly simple (ie, tomato leaf, green mandarin, geranium and patchouli). Released in 2023, the nose is Olivier Cresp.

Ollie, you are the man!

After that lush greenhouse open, I get stems – lots of broken stems: that green musky smell with a whiff of almost sour citrus. Then, a bit of peppery geranium.

As this heats up on skin the sour aspect of the citrus (sharp) fades and I just get citrus.

In the drydown, it’s a lovely smooth green musky thing, with maybe the patchouli just anchoring it.

This is available in a 30ml size for anywhere between £48 and £60 here and I am going to buy it. And then bathe in it. Just you wait.

So, that’s that.

Anyone know this? Like the Replica fragrances? Prefer my posts when I’m grumpy?

Oh noooo!!! You are forcing me to buy this one! Tomato leaf is a favorite and with a musky drydown? Gotta stop myself and at least go to Nordstroms to try it first..

  • March says:

Ooooh, I have to try this one! I’ve sniffed several of them at Sephora and they were nice but nothing I had to have … pretty sure the more popular/less interesting ones are in the sample set and this isn’t one of them.

    • cinnamon says:

I now need to have a look at the others. This one, in any case, would be wonderful in warm weather.

  • Dina C. says:

We’ve had So. Much. Rain. Everything, including weeds, has grown like crazy. Thursday (the one non-rainy day) I weeded my backyard, so my body retaliated and felt like I was 100 years old with stiff aching muscles all weekend. MM Replica is a pretty popular brand here in the US, carried by Sephora. Their carded samples get included with Sephora orders pretty often, and I think it must be working for them because I see perfume girls chatting about them pretty often. By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, Bubble Bath are some of the ones I see mentioned a lot.

    • cinnamon says:

Sorry about your rain. It really does get very tedious. I’m sure it’s a popular brand here, but I’m sometimes behind the curve.

    • Musette says:

Dina, I let my garden go last year ( dunno why) and I’m paying for it HIRD now… I’ll see your 100 years and raise it by a factor of 10!

And I never thought to try these , after an early ‘meh’ encounter… must revisit

  • rosarita says:

Haven’t tried this one and it sounds gorgeous. I really like Jazz Club and By the Fireplace.

  • alityke says:

I got a discovery set for Xmas during the pandemic & haven’t found a favourite. I have read good things about many though. Bubble Bath, a coffee one, a tobacco one & a smokey one but none of them were in the sample set I was gifted.
I must try this Garden one though, tomato leaf note is one of my favourites. If it compares well to Sisley Eau de Campagne it may take its place when I finish my current bottle.
I tried Perfumer H Smoke recently…. Thank you…. Be still my beating heart level of beauty

    • cinnamon says:

Sigh, so they leave out the interesting sounding ones. This one is definitely worth a whirl. And as to Smoke, it is gorgeous. Maybe one day Perfumer H will come out with travel sizes …

      • alityke says:

I think I was gifted it Xmas 2019 so some of the good ones hadn’t been released

  • Maggiecat says:

I haven’t tried this yet but love this house! If you like citrus, try Under the Lemon Trees (which has earned my husband’s highest praise, i.e. “I don’t hate that.” He’s not a perfume person…) For a p!easing musk, try Lazy Sunday Morning. They do offer discovery sets…
And I’m looking forward to trying this one!

    • cinnamon says:

One of the sample providers here offers this line and I plan to try more. From the garden will be another to go into my warm weather rotation.

  • Portia says:

AGREEEEEEEE! Cinnamon, I loved it too. So gorgeous. That geranium had me smiling broadly and going out to squish my leaves for comparison.
I feel there may be a bottle in my future too.
    Portia xx

It is so worthy of attention. There simply aren’t that many tomato perfumes. And the bottles aren’t bad at all …
