Call this another in the “Posse blames Posse” race.
Back in March Musette wrote about Tree Hut Pineapple body goop, blaming me for her Tree Hut addiction. Well I guess I was the start, but she has more than returned the favor. I didn’t get the body cream, but I did get the shower gel.
So this past weekend was July fourth (Yes, I am writing in advance. It’s practically the only thing I do in advance) It was warm. The day of the Fourth I went to a member preview of the new building that houses the LA County Museum of Art. The old 60’s building had been beautiful in it’s day but had fallen into neglect and had not been helped by an insensitive addition of 80’s PoMo, complete with green glazed tile, pink granite and glass brick. (If you saw “LA Story” it’s the museum Stave Martin skates in

The new LACMA
So the new museum is an amorphous concrete thing that is raised off the plaza and spans Wilshire Blvd. It also was walls of (supposedly specially treated to prevent any UV light transfer) glass looking out on the city, seemingly miles of dark grey concrete walls, and acres of corridors for Steve Martin to film “LA Story 2” in should he wish to. Sunday turned hot, so after running some errands I hit the showers. With Tree Hut.
I love pineapple. I love the fresh-cut stuff from the market. I love those little cans of pineapple juice with their tinny bite. I love a skewer of fresh pineapple grilled with turbinado sugar to a caramel that you get in Mexican food places here (If we still can.) I even love a ham studded with cloves and covered with the rings from the can and burnished in the oven to a deep gloss (and I don’t really like ham, and yes it does have to be the rings from the can, Fresh doesn’t work. I’ve tried.)
Tree Nut pineapple body wash doesn’t disappoint. It’s all pineapple; every pineapple. All of the ones above, in a soap. (it also leaves your skin soft and doesn’t strip it, which may or may not be a good thing depending how squeaky clean you like it. It’s also $12 at Amazon, which makes it kind of free.
Commenting on Musette’s post I wondered what it would be like paired with Colony, Patou’s discontinued (but still available online for fairly reasonable prices at this writing) pineapple delight. Now this Colony is from a re-issue in 2014 (hence the availability) I’ve never smelled and likely don’t want to smell the original. I am sure it’s divine and I know it’s in the thousands for a vintage bottle. (why, oh why was I not near Bullocks Wilshire with a stolen U-Haul during the riots? The men’s store with all that cashmere! The perfume section! right at street level!)

Bullocks Wilshire, way back in the day
This Colony is lovely, mind you. Like being served a Singapore Sling at a lush tropical resort without the need for a handful of Bufferin or an appointment at Betty Ford. On paper it should be a perfect combo.
In reality, not so much.
Like my experience trying to make that ham better by using pineapple freshly whacked from the fruit, the end result didn’t quite gel. The fresh pineapple fought with the ham while the canned stuff melded with it. In the same way, the silk-sarong silliness of Colony just didn’t work well with the frankly fake foolishness of the Tree Hut. They just didn’t mesh well. Of course refreshing Colony in the evening tipped the scales back, so I guess the idea is that these are not ones for layering, but they’re certainly both worth having.
Have you tried either of these? Have any pineapple favorites? Tried the original Colony and want to make me feel bad by telling me how good it is? Let us know in the comments.

I do like pineapple (the fresh stuff). I like your posts more. It’s good to laugh right now.
What does ’80s PoMo mean? Enquiring minds …
Looked on Amazon. Saw Tree Hut Moroccan Rose Shea Butter stuff for £20 which is just silly (at current exchange rates — with the dollar sinking by the day still — £20 is around $28). So, uh, that’s a no. There is something called O’kady Turmeric Body Scrub for £12-ish…
If I ever tried Tree Hut, I don’t remember. I’m with you on pineapple though and Jean Patou follows closely behind old Guerlain in my heart. I tried most of Jean Patou’s 12 Ma Collection and just looked up my notes. Colony was one of the three I never sampled.
You reminded me of something to make with pineapple. Try to find old fashioned or dark ginger ale – even golden can work to a degree. Make ice cubes with canned pineapple juice and put them in (my preference) room temperature ginger ale. Greatest on a hot day!
I love the Tree Hut Coco Colada (which smells fantastic), their body lotions, creams, and butters have a surprising amount of beneficial ingredients (ceramides, squalane, etc.) for my very, very dry skin in a very, very dry climate. Tangerine is also great. I’ve tried other Tree Hut minis (BOGO at Ulta usually), but those two are my favorites.
I think I need a trip to Ulta.
