Moving on to one of the most beautiful rose/incense/vanilla (take your pick) entries in forever, dahlinks, Amouage Lyric Woman, consisting of bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, rose, angelica, jasmine, ylang ylang, geranium, orris, oakmoss, musk, wood, patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean and frankincense. Amouage Lyric Woman makes me want to weep. Marina gave a great review already, and I don’t have a ton to add to it except my breathless panting about how freaking gorgeous this thing is. It strikes me that people who are NOT a fan of the rose may wind up happy with this. It’s really not about the rose as much as it is everything else surrounding it. Roses wafting happily over a bed of smoking incense and vanilla, infused with a myriad of spices. Just when you think that’s all (!) there is, you get a little geranium nosing around or musk or a note you’re not quite sure of. I swear, I sometimes almost get a horsey smell from it, that wonderful burrow your nose in the neck of a horse smell that is like nothing else. Complex and just shimmering with shadow and light, Amouage Lyric Woman is a stunner and not like anything else I have, which is… well, that’s a fairly large statement.
Amouage Lyric Men has notes of bergamot, lime, rose, angelica, orange blossom, galbanum, ginger, nutmeg, saffron, pine, sandalwood, vanilla, musk and frankincense. The male counterpart to the women’s, I wish I knew what Amouage does to their men’s scents of what note they’re using that goes to alcohol on me. I get a heady blast of angelica and incense, little citrus on the open, and then that note infects the rest with the smell of alcohol (this is just my nose giving me fits, not the scent itself), and I can’t give you much more about this except I know I would very much like it. it’s less intense than the women’s, almost no trace of vanilla to my nose, where the Women’s is pretty head with their vanilla-incense-musk blend.
Just sniffed the Lyrics over the weekend… the men’s had that awful note that most of the Amouage men’s frags have, not sure what it is… didn’t care for it at all.
The women’s smelled like a blast of Juicy Fruit gum. It toned down a bit after an hour, but I don’t need a $300 bottle of Juicy Fruit gum extract. More money saved – I’m going to get Jubilation 25 instead.
That’s very timely — there I was this morning, trying to pry my workstation away from the wall to retrieve my sample of DK Fuel that had hurled itself off the back through the cutout for the electric cords. What a stupid feature to have on a workstation — what about the PERFUME, people?!?! [-(
A rose/incense/vanilla that makes you want to weep? Oh no! I’m frightened! (See the comment by Louise above!) Unfortunately, it sounds like a very pricey “must-buy”. :((
I’ll be tracking you down b-)
Patty, does the Lyric Woman remind you of anything from Rosine? It sounds gorgeous, and I will definitely test it when I visit Luckyscent next weekend. So far none of the Amouages work for me, but this sounds absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for the lovely review.
Hugs!
I’ll have to try the Lyric for women. I say I’m not really a rose fan but if I stop & think of all the rose fragrances I have & love (including JOY of course) then I guess I AM a rose fan. As far as the new Guerlains, after I read the publicity rant about them (over-sale), I was afraid they wouldn’t be earth shattering.
And on a little different note, does anyone think that Agent Provocateur smells like Paloma Picasso? I FINALLY sampled it & for an hour I kept trying to figure out where I’d smelled that scent before. Then it hit me & I got out my Paloma & compared them. They’re VERY similar although I think the Paloma packs an even bigger punch.
Yes! They smell related to me, though Paloma has a pissy quality that my nose can’t get around.
Haven’t smelled the Lyrics yet. I’m just feeling for you, missing the magic and majesty of the men’s Jubilation>:d<>:d<
I wasn’t so taken by Lyric (for women, didn’t try the men) and postively disliked its drydown, which on me was a headache inducing sweet plastic tonka-vanilla combo. I seem to be a lone and humble voice of dissent as it gets reputable praise everywhere else…:((
Guess my expectations were very high after the Jubilations, promise to re-test with an open mind.
😡
Is there anywhere in NYC to sniff the Amouges? Or are they an order-samples-through-the-mail only kind of deal?
A –
There’s an Aedes/Amouage event on 10/2, I believe. Yet another reason to wish I could afford to live in NY (translation: live well in NY and buy all the perfume I want!)
xo>-)
Look at it this way: what you’d lose in paying the exorbitant NYC rents, you’d gain in access to gazillions of free samples! Might just be worth it…
Thanks, Musette! Was just coming back over here to smack my forehead in public, since I’ve already gotten all the promos for the Aedes event in my mailbox. I won’t be there on 10/2 but hopefully the bottle will still be around later in the month.
As for living in NYC. Maybe we could start some kind of timeshare dealie for perfume and NY junkies? I really only need a place to stay five or six weeks a year, and my usual sleepover friend is giving up her place 😮 :(( I’m just sick about it. I keep waiting to find someone who needs an occasional live-in petsitter…
Lyric for woman is really scaring me…it sounds so lovely, very me. I’ll be sampling it very soon…almost hoping it goes too vanillic, too something, just so I can avoid the temptations, and especially the $-)
Funny, Patty, but I had the same trouble with Jub men’s-it wasn’t bad, but didn’t bloom at all, and had that “off” note. As I recall, Lee loved it, and I know many gals that wear it very well.
Now-Amouage 25-there’s a real treasure, though sometimes I have to remind myself I am indeed grown up enough to wear it /:)
I’ll be interested to see what you think. I have a hunch it should be pretty magnificent on you. 🙂
Okay, I’m glad to hear someone else has that problem with the Amouage mens stuff. I wish I could just blot out that note and really get the scent, but it just overpowers it with alcohol smell. So annoying.
I am absolutely loving the Lyrics, but especially the one for women. To my nose, it seems like a riff on Ubar and I *swear* I am getting a serious fecal note in there which is very similar to the intensely animalic note I get in Ubar. Anyway, need to test it further. Happily. 🙂
Isn’t it just amazing? Lasts forever, as I sniff it still this morning. Maybe what I smell as horsey is that fecal note? There’s a lot of “stuff” rolling around in it.
