Une Fleur De Chanel by CHANEL 1998

Hey Hey Perfume Posse Peeps, Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies thrilled to be with you all, as always. I was recently gifted some wonderful fragrances and today I will share with you one I’d never heard of before, while this one was being released my fragrant mind was clearly attuned elsewhere. I’m trying to think what I may have been wearing in 1998: Le Male, Joop Homme, Fendi Donna, Versace Blonde, I think I may have worn a Jacomo at this point? Ahh, dunno. Anyway, I completely missed…

Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Jasmine, green notes, citruses

Une Fleur De Chanel opens with a big rush of aldehydic citrus and green notes. It’s fun and frisky and I think my bottle may be on the verge of turn. About a minute in a lovely banana/ylang note swans through creating a sexy exotic vibe, very summer holiday on a tropical island. I can see this being a favourite summer scent for the young and young at heart. A bright flirty and fun floral that is alluring and languid at the same time.

Then I am left with a soft lemony green, a little bit sweetened green tea-ish, that goes for a few hours and fades to zero. It reads like a very modern fragrance and I am surprised it did not do well enough to stay in the range. A simple, pretty, green citrus/floral that sparkles? Maybe it was just too simple for its time, ahead of its time? I bet if they re-released Une Fleur de Chanel today that it would be a smash.

I found some partial bottles and samples on eBay but otherwise Une Fleur De Chanel has disappeared forever

Had never heard of this one, thank´s for mentioning it, Portia. I actually like the Gardenia Exclusif, not that I´d buy it, but now I think I´ll be reaching for my sample.

      Hi there Solanace.
      Always lovely to see you.
Can I tell you a secret? I tried the CHANEL Gardenia and can’t remember it AT ALL. It left me stone cold. I have smelled it on others and it’s great but on me it was absolutely nothing, the anti remember juice.

Just to say I got a sample of Gardenia thinking it might be a bit like Une Fleur and was so disappointed. Like you, Portia, I can’t now really remember what it smelt like and in fact was so unimpressed I gave it away.

How funny – I recently found a bottle of this at an estate sale for $5! It was in great condition although I didn’t care for it so I just yesterday sold it on eBay for a ridiculous amount. The bidding just went up and up. I’d never heard of it 🙂

Other than No5 EdT & parfum, Chanel was never much on my radar. I wore Cristalle for awhile but it always made me feel so melancholy, so I stopped wearing it (note; it still does. I recently tried it and was on the verge of tears for the bulk of the morning! LOL! jeez.)….. since Possefyin’ I’ve been introduced to Les Exclusifs, of which only Eau & 1932 thrill me…and, of course, the vaunted Cuir de Russie parfum, which is heavenly.

This sounds delightful, like an afternoon by the pool with the Rat Pack!

I have this Chanel, Portia. I think it is lovely for the summer. Very easy to wear.

    • Portia says:

      Lucky you Kathleen,
Yes, I could imagine it being a perfect Go-To in Summer.
How old is yours and is it showing any signs of age?

Howdy, Portia! I remember liking this elusive scent but I guess not enough for an immediate purchase. And then later on when I thought to try it again and perhaps pull the trigger on a bottle, poof! It was gone. Seems like it would do well now though. Now that I think about it, it seemed to remind me a bit of the Chanel Gardenia. Does anyone know if that one is still around?

  • jilliecat says:

I got this when it first came out. It was very difficult to track down, I seem to remember, but I managed to get it from one of the Chanel boutiques in London. I liked its delicacy very much and should have worn it more often as it actually turned very quickly, in spite of being in a box in a dark, cool cupboard; a mere year after purchase it had changed to something like fly-killer! I threw it out but wish now I had kept it for its pretty bottle and embossed box.

    • Ann says:

Jilliecat, what a shame! I’ve tried keeping scents in my fridge that I know are quick-turners, but not sure how much that helps.

    • Portia says:

      What a bummer Jilliecat,
My bottle I sent of to a rare and exquisite collector here in Oz after I reviewed it. There was very little left and I knew she would get a huge kick out of owning something so elusive. Mine had not turned yet, luckily it was sweet and fresh though it was showing signs that it may do soon.
