In Memoriam

Memorial Day

Have a wonderful weekend.  Take a moment to reflect.  Say ‘thank you’ to a veteran.   Theirs is a tremendous service.

Now a FUN perfume question:

What’s your perfume for the weekend? Mine is that intoxicating concoction of  Eau du Grass Clippings, Grillsmoke and Trashy Novel.

Oops – sorry.  Taking that back.  My current scent is the scent of rain, rain, rain, toadsmildew.

And rain.

Oh.  Did I mention RAIN?

We’ll see you on Tuesday!

Hey, you — my smells were sunscreen, cut grass, grilled chicken, and the roses we put on my mother’s grave in the cemetery … also filled with cut grass-smell. Lovely, not sad.

Magic Moment of the weekend — you know it’s rolling thunder here, right? I was getting off Route 50, heading for the Key Bridge, surrounded by bikers, and just then a squadron of F-14s or whatever they are flew RIGHT over my head to the Iwo Jima memorial… auditory overload in the best way.

    • Musette says:

Wow! That sounds like Serious Overload (in a VGWay). I did Rolling Thunder a few years back – it was a rough ride but well worth it!

@};- for your mom. Memorial Day is for everyone.

      xo >-)

  • Francesca says:

Loved your lovely tribute to our military men and women, past and present. Spent several hours in the early morning listening to a beautiful, pounding, dramatic thunderstorm. Finally went back to sleep. Woke up and splashed myself with Eau du Sud. Perfect scent for “Hey, it’s finally warm and I’ve got the day off!”

    • Musette says:

Oooh, congrats on the day off and the warm day! Day off+ early morning thunderstorm = 😡

Went to see my pop this late morning – WWII vet (profiled in Tom Brokaw’s ‘Greatest Generation’). He wore his cover with his medals affixed to it – at 90, his continued pride in his service really is moving. I’m not super militaristic but those who put themselves in harm’s way (and that includes our police and firefighters as well) – they deserve our gratitude and our respect, imo.

      xo >-)

      • Francesca says:

I don’t think one has to be militaristic–I’m certainly not– to be moved by and grateful for the sacrifices of our men and women in the armed forces. For some reason, I’m feeling it especially intensely this weekend. And Goddess bless your dad, too, Anita, for his selfless service.

        • Musette says:

I will pass that on to him! Thanks!

fwiw, I think we are all in a state of heightened awareness of our armed forces – the world is under siege in so many ways. And Memorial Day is supposed to be about honoring the memory of those who have served their country. The cookout is a bonus!

          xo >-)

      • Ann says:

Anita, please give your dad my best and also all of our grateful thanks for his service. My dad was in WWII helping train RAF pilots and my grandfather in WWI.

  • Claudia says:

It’s very hot here, and we are inside watching the movie, “Taking Chance” with Kevin Bacon. The dishwasher repairman was also here, and at one point, all three of us were watching the movie, and crying. A good movie for Memorial Day. Keep hankies handy.

  • Joe says:

Hello, dear Musette! Sorry to hear you’re getting so much rain. The weather here on Friday was glorious, with a beautifully dry and hot afternoon. However, the temperature dropped after that and it’s just been in the mid-60s for the high all weekend, which feels a bit too cool for me. I shouldn’t ever complain about our perfect climate though. I just get on better when it’s around 75.

Fragrances this weekend have been all over the map. Today I’m trying Anya’s Starflower, last night I was snuggling in the yummy Iris Ganache. I hope you dry out soon!

    • Musette says:

It’s 88F here right now – can you believe it? Brilliant blue sky. It’s as if the past 3 days never happened!!!

I’ve missed you! I’m so glad you stopped by, with your perfect weather! ;))

      xoxoxo >-)

SOTLA Rose d’Ete (it was the first thing to hand. Hey, March! @};-

      • Joe says:

I’m glad your weekend turned around! And I’ve missed you all too — nothing personal, of course. I think I just changed up some of my reading/commenting habits for awhile. You’ll be seeing me… ;)

  • annie says:

May The Troops be forever blessed,& remembered……Today,I’m tryjng Eau de Mr. Clean, followed by eau de Comet, and then, perhaps, since I’ve been such a good girl,Eau de CHLORINE….AND PERHAPS,if the sunshine Gods persist, some Essence of Hummingbird will waft my way(will be sure to bottle it,and charge $500 a bottle)!!…..carry on my Perfumistas…carry on….:d

    • Musette says:

Ooooh, yes…Essence of Hummingbird. I have only seen one so far – he dropped in, check out the feeder and ran off. Hope s/he returns and brings some friends! [-o< xo >-)

  • karin says:

The last two days were gorgeous! Sunny and warm. Forecast had said cloudy – no sun! Today is cloudy…but I ain’t complainin’. Fumes for the weekend were Kilian Love and Tears, AG Heure Exquise, and today, Mandragore (hot and humid)…in addition to barbecue smoke and ice cream!

  • Ann says:

Yes, dear Musette, thank you for the tribute. This weekend I’ve been doing some heavy test-driving as well. Tried out several of the lovely Inekes and others (enjoying the Olene — thanks!).
I wanted to love White Gardenia Petals, as did Maggiecat above, and although it was nice enough, I, too, was expecting more. It wore on me mostly as a somewhat watered-down Calyx (which I love), no bad thing in itself, but not worth going through all the hoopla for a bottle, and the hefty-ish price tag. So I can cross that one off my “must-have” list. Have a great Memorial Day everyone!!

    • Musette says:

I think it was the perfect innocuous Public Wedding Scent. That actually isn’t near the ‘faint praise’ it might seem to be – choosing a scent for a day that crammed with Event must’ve been difficult and I think a more challenging scent would’ve been inappropriate, given all the physical drama she had to go through (imagine how much her right arm must’ve hurt, with all that waving!)

      xo >-)

  • maggiecat says:

I also appreciate your tribute – as the daughter, mother, and wife of current or former members of our armed forces! I’ve been playing with scents this weekend – it’s very hot in Dallas and I’ve been doing a lot of housework. White Gardenia Petals was a major dsiappointment – but rediscovering Chanel’s Eau de cologne has been a delight!

    • Musette says:

Please thank them all for me! 😡 I second the Chanel – never gave the WGP a thought (it sounded nice – and perfect for the occasion – but that occasion has come and gone way too many times for me at this point :”> )

91F is the predicted high here today. Lord.

      xo >-)

  • Musette says:

I only know Colony, with that fun vibe (and Back to Black) – and today I can actually test something out, as Ma Nature has decided to cut us a break – it’s gorgeous out!!! I’m going to wear …….:-?

    xo >-)

  • nozknoz says:

Musette, thank you for both the Memorial Day tribute to veterans and for cracking me up. I’m staying inside to get some things done and avoid the heat and humidity, so I’ve been testing different samples, including SL Boxeuses, Frapin 1697, CdG Rhubarb, Parfums MDCI Belle Helene and Jean Patou Colony. I finally managed to figure out what 1691 reminds me of, and it’s BK Back to Black. Rhubarb would be great for summer and it’s only $42!
