Okay, everything I said about Swapmania, I take it back.  Just my casual comments last week netted me a couple of offers on some fragrances that I’ve been without for a long time. So, yeah, okay, I get it!!!!  It is the thrill of the hunt, I just forgot about it. Must be spending these last two years getting all zen and losing my competitiveness and trying to curb my more acquisitive nature.

Well, no, that’s not going that well.  I get on these kicks, like the caftans and then the Eskander stuff, and my little budget gets blown up. I did get a Camille Franks caftan this week that belongs on a beach in Mexico, which further aggravates my budget because I’m trying to figure out how to get Mexico in there – taking my mom on an Alaska cruise for her 75th birthday present, then I want to take my sons trekking in Nepal in the fall.  But at least I’m waiting and trying to get bargains on my little gems through eBay so I can do the other trips, but no room for beaches in Mexico.

But what about perfume?  I mean, has there been anything much this year so far? I know it’s just January, but I was so happy in the fall with so many releases that made me happy, and then I sorta ran out of steam with nothing that’s making me squeal or even giggle with delight.

So I’m just going to live vicariously through Swapmania and read it tomorrow and hope for inspiration or maybe someone that has some Fath Iris Gris they just don’t like at all – too much peach and iris damnit! – and really really want a bottle of Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille for it because it seems to be sold out everywhere!  *pauses, looks around*  Anyone?

Well, hey, it could happen. I could also get a 24-inch waist and win the lottery, which may be more likely.  So what’s your dream swap?  Try and make it somewhat realistic – no Tommy Girl for Mitsouko vintage parfum or anything.

  1. Hey..just a quick note to say the SDV will return in the L’arte style bottle…so its a temporary lack of availability :-)

    • I’m glad to hear SDV is getting a new bottle; I’ve never cared for its present bottle (looks like it belongs more in the kitchen, but maybe that’s the idea). The only trouble is now I’ll want to get rid of the one I have so I can have a prettier bottle!

  2. I would love to find bottles of Sinfonia di Note Petale di Rose or Vol de Nuit Evasion (those are kinda possible) and on the less possible side, Plus Que Jamais or Quand Vient La Pluie..not sure what I’d trade but would be even willing to pay for them…anyone in Europe able to purchase?

So glad to see you found something good after all! :-)

    • Sherri: I’m going to my mother’s (S-W France, NOT Paris) next Friday and returning at the end of the month. Happy to look for, purchase, and mule fragrances back for anyone. Let me know.

  3. My ideal swap… hummm… I think I would love to swap my nearly new bottle of EdLO Noel au Balcon for a half-used (I am trying to be realistic and ‘ideal’!!!) bottle of Ormonde Woman. I am in the UK if any angels are around…

Oh and I would sell my soul for Attrape-Couer but really have nothing remotely worthy to offer in return!

    • I swear to Floyd that every time I see that EdLO name I think it’s Noel au BACON! :@)

      and for a moment I am intrigued…:-?

      xo >-)

      • Me second on the bacon!!! Have you seen the comic currently circulating on FB? There’s a pic of Bob Hope, and the caption reads, “No Hope.”. Next is a picture of Johnny Cash, and its caption reads, ” No Cash.” The third pictures Steve Jobs, and – you guessed it – says “No Jobs.” The final picture is of Kevin Bacon. His caption reads, “Please don’t ever die!!!”

      • Isn’t it?

  4. I would love to swap m largish gecant of SL UBV 20ml for FM Iris Poudre would be happy with 10ml:):):) ,but I have an open mind and will be very open for any offers,I too am in the UK;)

  5. Hi, Patty. Glad to see that you’re finding a little fun on the swap train. I would adore a drop or two of the Roja Dove Unspoken (pure parfum) but don’t have anything worthy to swap for it; also would love to test-drive more of the Armani La Femme Bleue but alas … Anyway, my eyes lit up at your mention of Eskander — great line but a bit too pricey for me right now. But one day one of their shirts will be mine (insert evil laugh here).

  6. I thought you’d been kidnapped! #:-s

My Fantasy Swap? I would ….hmmmm…maybe still-excellent vintage Diorling? or….still-excellent really vintage Coty Chypre (like, wouldn’t it be just freakin’ GRAND if one of the original bottles somehow got stuck in amber, like those flies in Jurassic Park and was perfectly preserved? And Sam Neill (BONUS! Fantasy) just wants the fly that’s sitting on the bottle, so he carefully chips away the amber…and says ‘oh, here. you probably want this stupid bottle of perfume’……

    ….I would swap…..my tonsils? :-?

    xo >-)

    • ooops! sorry. :”>

      Mosquitoes.

      Not flies.

      Mosquitoes.

      sorry. :”>

      xo >-)

    • A – thought you were offering to swap mosquitoes there for a moment. I may have some Diorling for you…

      • let’s chat, baby. I’m doing the Happy Dance!!!

I’ll look for you tomorrow. Think about what you might like in return (I actully don’t have that much…seriously – but we’ll see what might float your boat!

        xo >-)

    • Hey, you, Sam Neill is MY fantasy. And he is wearing black tie, Hermes Bel Ami and laden with exotic flowers for moi, thank you very much.

Fantasy perfume swap…Gobin Daude Nuit au Desert, Patou Vacances, Coty Oeillet, Xerjoff Irisss or ISM…SIGH. I would an ample amount of my perfume collection plus designer clothing for any decent amounts of those lovelies…

Will probably have to make do with daydreams of the lovely Mr. Neill.

  7. Dream of dreams for me would be to find a bottle of Cherigan Fleurs de Tabac. *Sigh* So here’s to some beautiful swapping this weekend.

  8. Ooh, I like this one! (Yeah, like I need any enabling on the fantasizing front).

My fantasy swaps would be a partial of Vero Profumo Rubj EdP, for my partial of Ormonde Jayne Woman, or a bottle of PG Indochine, for my SL Un Bois Vanille. I’ll stop here, otherwise I’d just be starting my Swapmania list….

A friend and I are hosting an afternoon tea themed baby shower tomorrow (for a brief moment, I considered re-scheduling the shower due to Swapmania, which gives you some idea of my priorities), so I’ll be a little late to the open – can’t wait!

  9. Fantasy: Profumum Alba; Égoïste; Nino Cerruti original for men (the one that’s been compared to Insensé); Cozé; almost anything by Léonard; Mauboussin Émotion Divine (LE produced only for Marionnaud stores a few years ago); Guerlain Boudoir Vénitien…

    *sigh*

all in exchange for a bottle of Paris Hilton, of course :0P

  10. I won’t be attending the Swapmania, since I’ve got a lot of things going on. My dream swap would probably be a 6.8 ounce bottle of Chanel’s Gardenia and Frapin’s Espirit de Fluers for a bottle of Amouage Lyric for women or Gold for women. I kept forgetting to order a decant of Guerlain’s Spiriteuse Double Vanille and when I did order a decant, the funniest thing happened. It’s on backorder and I am looking at getting it around the end of Febuary. Teaches me to double check to make sure something is in stock!

  11. My dream swap would be my bottle of Vivara 2007 by Emilio Pucci (light green scent) in exchange for L’Ombre Dans L’Eau by Diptyque (dark green scent).

    • Ohhh I like the vintage Vivara, don’t think I’ve smelled the new stuff. Some vintage Zadig would be sweet.

  12. Just one day until the Swap and I’m not sure if I’m going to play or not. I had a great experience last time but it’s sounding like a lot of folks are looking for vintage or very, very exclusive scents – and who can blame them?. I got interested in perfume only quite recently so I don’t have much of either which is really really good for my wallet. I do get that today we’re talking’ dream swaps though so I guess mine would be to find an under appreciated bottle of L’air Du Desert Marocain or Solange Stoned. I’d appreciate the heck out of them:) I’d also love to get Osmanthe Yunnan – I’d swap for some Vetiver Tonka or SL A La Nuit.

  13. Ooh, I’d love for my unwanted Bois Farine bottle to be exchanged against Ormonde Jayne Tolu (my current obsession) or Frédéric Malle En Passant. Or for my Annick Goutal Grand Amour to finally allow me to get a bottle of my beloved Eau de Camille (a bottle that wouldn’t have gone off like my recently bought one has, that is!)

Actually I also hope to get some great samples out of this swap, although I’m not sure if that’s even “allowed.” I haven’t smelled many new things recently, I miss it!

    • anything that’s okay between the swappers is allowed! Unless it’s patently illegal, Craigslist-style ;), then you should move it off the board. We only host the swap venue – what y’all swap is between y’all!

      xo >-)

  14. Hey Patti! I saw a mini of the Fath Iris Gris on ebay -but it had a-gulp-$60 opening bid! Ouch!

  15. Hi All – Just testing out my new email and Gravatar… getting my ducks in a row for tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

  16. Yeah, getting all zen is really nice, but you can’t smell or wear zen, now can you Patty? Unless you have that old Shiseido, which was one of my long ago favorites–and which you probably do own! You are certainly entitled ot not trade if you don’t want, Patty. Posse folks know better than to try to pry your precious out of your hands. My ideal swap is probably a long shot but– I have a dear friend who is jonesing for Amouage Dia edp, and I would dearly love to give her some. I have a few little rarities, that I wonder whether someone wouldn’t be willing to trade for– Crepe de Chine, cologne and perfume; vintage Vol de Nuit, cologne and verrry old perfume. A small bottle of Guerlain Rue de Paix– which is in very good shape considering its age. I enjoy them, but I would really enjoy passing them on if I could turn it over into a nice bottle of Dia for my friend. Or, Opus II for me . . .:)>-

  17. I don’t think I’ll participate in swapmania but if I did I’d like to get rid of my unloved bottles of SL Une Bois Vanille, SL Louve, Armani Cuir Amethyste, CBIP Burning Leaves, Cinnabar, Coco, JM Sweet Cedre & Lime, AG Myrrhe Ardente and perhaps my Chergui as well. In exchange I’d like to get almost anything from Parfumerie Generale (except florals), Guerlain SDV, Calamity J, Ambre Precieux, Havana Vanille, Dzonghka, Fou d’absinthe, LAP Ambre Extreme or decants from some of Tom Ford’s Private Blend :x. Makes me happy even to think about it, so thanks for the thread!
