The Road To SCENTSATION!

The Road To SCENTSATION

Heya Posse!! Portia here again from AustralianPerfumeJunkies. Here’s my problem, I have been buzzing about my trip to LA Scentsation for weeks now, I’ve planned my outfits, settled my VISA, Tickets and Money. I’ve organised to do some great stuff, including the CER-AY-ZEE Perfume Posse Bus Tour of LA, Tom and I are taking a day trip to meet Roxanna Illuminated Perfumes, I have set a lunch date and interview with Brent Leonesio of Smell Bent. There will also be some catching up with non frag buddies like Tim Chappel, Academy Award winning costumier for Priscilla QOTD, Mr M Lessall who I was besties with in London when we were kids there running amok, comedienne and writer Rebecca Donohue and wifesy, same (but Aussie) Jackie Loeb, my buddy Bradley Picklesheimer who last time I was in LA had me decorating Barbra Streisand’s wedding to James Brolin on her Malibu clifftop estate. It’s going to be GO GO GO!!! All in just 7 days. OMFreakingG!! Did you hear the clang as I dropped each name HE HE HE!!

Scentsation Scentsation

My problem, of course, was what fragrance to take. Notice I used the singular? There will be definite shopping while in LA for fragrances so I need one scent that will be plane friendly, arrival friendly, lunch, dinner, sleep and Scentsation friendly. This frag has to work OVERTIME!!

Here is my top 10 travel frag list:

Premier Figuier Extreme by L’Artisan Parfumeur
Rose Sur Reuse by SOIVOHLE
Shalimar EdP by Guerlain modern
Mohur by Neela Vermeire Creations
CHANEL No 5 Parfum vintage
Ballet Rouges by Olympic Orchids
TibetYrBottom$ by Smell Bent
Interlude Man by Amouage
Youth Dew Amber Nude by Estee Lauder
Escale a Portofino by DIOR

Tell me dear POSSE! Which would you have taken and why?

Hopefully I’ll be seeing a bunch of you all over the next week> HOORAY L.A. SCENTSATION!!

I can’t wait to hear of your adventures. I would also have taken the Escale a Portofino…it is so refreshing and definately airplane appropriate.

    • Sorry Maureen,
Had I known this would be such a favourite I would have but to be honest I wore Chanel No 5. It was a great choice and I smelled softly YUMMY the whole 15 hours.

Portia, darling, you were marvelous today! Had such a wonderful time. More comments when I get home.

    • HEY KAT!!!!
How great to see you here now I’ve met you and hung out with you. What a wonderful, amazing, fun, silly, exciting and brilliantly thought out adventure. Can’t wait for next year.

Sadly, I’ll miss this trip – but I’d take Escale Portofino anywhere! It’s refreshing and lovely and soothing. I’ve traveled with it before and will again – it’s a longtime favorite.

  • Joe says:

Whee! I can’t wait to meet all of you on Saturday!

Personally, I’d have taken Escale à Portofino. I need bright, cheery things when I’m flying and such.

  • Dionne says:

I’m choosing the road less taken and voting for fig. It’s a great scent and a crowd-pleaser, I can’t see anyone being offended by it. Have a FABULOUS time! Wish I could be there!

  • poodle says:

I say Shalimar. With a light hand you shouldn’t skunk anyone out. I also remember you saying that Shalimar was an easy, anytime scent for you so that sounds like what you need. Honestly it probably is only for the journey here because once you’re in LA you’ll have plenty of other perfumes to play with.

  • Lisa D says:

I love the thought of you wafting Shalimar all the way here from Australia, but I’m still voting for the Mohur!

  • Cacomixtle says:

Youth Dew Amber Nude would be my choice… I’m really not sure how your flying companions would feel about that, but I love it and find the spiciness to be comforting when I’m stressed. Second choice would be Shalimar, although I’ve only ever worn the vintage and don’t know the modern edp.

  • LaurenW says:

I like soothing scents when I travel, and the closest you have to soothing on your list are Mohur and Portofino, so I’m recommending them.

    Have a fabulous time!

  • solanace says:

I might be a fume pervert, but I’d take Shalimar, because it’s always so satisfying to me. It’s like a great company that lifts my mood. With a light hand, it shoudn’t harm anyone on the plane. After all, it’s not BO, so I count on my fellow humans’ tolerance. 🙂

  • Ellen Covey says:

Gorgeous Portia, of course I would wear Ballets Rouges because I so love to drop my own name with a resounding clang!

Seriously, whatever you wear will smell awesome. When traveling, I usually spray myself with a half dozen scents from the duty-free shops, and probably asphyxiate the whole plane. Lady Gaga Fame combined with Chanel 19 worked well for me on my last 26-hour flight from hell. On the bus there’ll probably be so much going on scent-wise that you’ll need something extra powerful to rise above the olfactory cacophony. I just wish I could be in LA for all the fun!

  • Ann says:

Hi, dear Portia! You are probably well on your journey, so hope it’s a safe and fun trip. Think I would choose the lovely Dior Escale a Portofino as it’s refreshing for the long plane ride and also fits in perfectly with the sunny California vibe (that is until you sample all the lovely scents that L.A. has to offer). Have a fabulous time!

  • Beth says:

Portia, I was cracking up reading your list. Most of the ones I recognize on there are big, beautiful monsters. I love them, but I would be afraid to wear them crammed next to the rest of the cattle on a long flight. I’m flying the other direction Saturday, Chicago to Frankfurt, and I’m scrambling through my scents too. I think I’m going to wear something super fresh and clean. People are obsessed with clean now. If you’re not a perfumista, I think you have trouble with skank. And I love me some skank.

So I’m thinking powdery or citrusy. I may wear Entre Naranjos, or Neroli Portifino, or Hiris. I’m not a big fan of clean scents, and I recoil from aquatics. What IS the obsession with no scent or clean scent? Do you think it’s a pull back from the 80s bombastic scents and that’s what people think of when they think of perfume? Irritating and sad to see so many places making their companies scent-free.

  • Rowanhill says:

    Dear Portia,

Considering the unavoidably very close proximity to people during the flight and bus trips, I would choose Escale a Portofino. It has considerable sillage so cautious spraying is called for but it smells so happy and sunny (and clean in a good sense) that I would gladly welcome anyone wearing it next to me on a cross ocean flight. And it has that soft lovely almond fragrance in the drydown, which is inviting but inoffensive. Just taking pity on those who forgot their Ambien on that flight. Chanel No 5 would be my next option from your list. Youth Dew and Shalimar, whatever the concentration, not for the plane.

    • FeralJasmine says:

I agree that we owe it to our fellow passengers to be careful with our scents. My irrationally intense dislike for Angel may stem from sitting next to somebody wearing it on a long flight; it just seemed to get worse and worse as the hours went by. And in close quarters, Shalimar could be awful after a while, even if you like it. When I have to fly, I generally use Barbara Bui, which is enjoyable for me but too subtle (at least on my skin) to disturb others.

  • FearsMice says:

Portia, I’m so sad I won’t be in LA this weekend to meet you (tho I have seen PQOOTD, if that counts…)! I’d take Mohur, for no other reason than that I love it. Have fun!!
