Cartier, Cartier, Cartier, L’Odyssée de Cartier

Hey Perfume Posse, Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies and I can’t remember if I’ve put this up for you too see before. The most lavish Cartier advertisement ever. A movie with a story and the most incredible locations and CGI work. It makes me wonder how much money the Cartier crew has, it must be squintillions, because there has been no expense spared to bring you this.

As this is a conversation and I love to read your thoughts and have a chat, What is your favourite Cartier fragrance?

My answer is two fold:

Baiser Volé by Cartier 2011 (Stolen Kiss)

Photo Stolen Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Pistils of the lily, citrus
Heart: Lily petals
Base: Green leaves of lily (musk not noted)

Cartier Baiser Vole (APJ Review) and Cartier Baiser Vole EdP (Perfume Posse Review) is the loveliest lily imaginable. Soft, wet, slightly metallic and a wash of lovely fragrance that is never intrusive but has excellent sillage and staying power. A perfect scent for days when smelling pretty and luminous is your goal, don’t dismiss Baiser Vole as simple though, it’s also interesting enough to spend a lazy Saturday enjoying its story while reading a book or doing the ironing.

Cartier II L’Heure Convoitée 2011 (The Coveted Hour)

Cartier L'Heure Convoitee? II Cartier FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Carnation, iris and powder

Cartier II L’Heure Convoitée (Perfume Posse Review) What opens as a softly spicy iris in Cartier’s L’Heure Convoitée reads wet and fresh and hefty. Though it is a sparse fragrance there is definite weight behind its ethereal sheerness, and every time I spritz it I am surprised again. Jin and I bought this in the middle of winter at the Cartier shop in Prague earlier this year and you woulds think something so fresh and sparkly would be a mistake in the snowy cold but it was perfect. Reflecting the wonderful winter wonderland we were in, L’Heure Convoitée will always be a happy and uplifting scent for me just on memory association alone.

Enjoy it the movie below please

I have never tried any Cartier Fragrances. But that leopard and his journey, (except for that weird fakey dragon) was so romantic. Favorite scenes; when he was trotting alongside the horses in the snow, and when he slid up past the lady in the last scene, so she could run her hand down his fur. Thanks Portia!

    • Hi there Tora,
Really didn’t like the dragon? Bum, I thought it was beautiful, the way it then became the Great Wall Of China, and it had a bit of a leopard face too, then it bowed at the leopard and fled. Ohhhh.
Yes, when it comes into the room and looks like it might eat her, prowls over and she pets it, gorgeous.

Great Wall of China, Golden Dragons ?,
Mmm I wonder what market they ever could be targeting so subtly ?

        • Ha Ha ha!!! Subtly? Naah
You go where the money is if you’re a multinational.
There is an incredible Vietnamese dragon shell picture above my desk in the frag cave, I also had a camellia hedge that runs down the side fence cut into waves that look like a dragon’s tail and a tree bursts out of it at the junction looks like the body, head and clouds attached soaring maybe 40meters into the sky.
          I like dragons too.

  • I actually haven’t tried that many Cartiers. I sniffed the new version of Baiser Vole (I think that was the one?) at Neiman Marcus a few months ago, and I remember liking it. I have a sample of Heure Convoitee. I need to revisit and see how it is in cooler weather, but when I tried it, I think there’s something with the carnation that makes it go all bubblegum on me. I got the same thing with SL De Profundis.

    • Oh? Bubblegum? WOW! That is a note I would never have expected for Convotee (spelling I know). I have been wearing it in the warmth of out Australian spring and it’s been perfectly cool and crystal sheer.
      I wonder what it is?

That was my favorite perfume ad … magnificent! I have only tried a few of les heures but really liked XIII.
    Thanks, Portia. xox

    • Hey there CC,
I can’t remember XIII, what was it like. I remember it being new recently but that’s as far as it goes.
Crazy good ad wasn’t it? It’s sometimes nice to live in a world where that kind of spend can go on advertising. Though if they sent every cent of the ad to schools for girls in Africa or parts of the Middle east, or even to schools and hospitals in areas where there are Cartier stores there would be greater benefits.

        Hey Portia,
I received 3 of the little 4ml samples from a friend … and by the way, aren’t those little samples packaged fabulously in the red boxes? I will have to dig out which ones they were but I do recall XIII being the one I liked the best…it has a LL Patch 24 vibe, I think… Very pretty.
And I totally agree with you on the there being far greater benefit if they had donated the money to schools and hospitals. Alas. Xox

  • Samantha L. says:

My favorite is definitely L’heure Fougueuse…even though I can’t really spell it, I love to smell it! I’m dying for some right now and a full bottle would be awesome, but this poor lady will have to make due with purchasing a small decant!!

  • Jan Last says:

My two favorites are Eau de Cartier Concentree, a great fall to winter big cedar and Essence d’Orange, one of the better summer smell down your shirt scents. There is some vintage Panthere lurking in my perfume cabinet for days when I feel Outrageous.

  • Tom says:

    that is some video..

  • Musette says:

Baiser Vole and Declaration (which sort of smell similar (hey, I’m winging it on those!!!! 🙂 My favorite Heures is Fougueuse (there may be an extra ‘u’ in there – don’t judge! 😀 LOL!

As you feel about Convoitee in the snowy cold is how I feel about Brillante; it works easily in the mild heat (extreme heat eats its lunch) but also sparkles like shattered crystal in cold weather!

I love Baiser a whole WHOLE lot! I might spring for a FB, come spring.

But none of them I love as much as I love YOU! xoxoxoA

    • Hello gorgeous Musette,
Jin’s favourite is VI Brilliant of the L’Heures series. If the sales cow had have been a little less ferocious he would own it now.
Sparkles like shattered crystal is exactly the phrase to conjure the idea, perfect.
I’m wearing Baiser Volé right now in your honour, and yes, I love YOU more than perfume too. By a MILLION miles.

  • Alison says:

I have been a huge So Pretty fan ever since 2010 when my sis-in-law sprayed it on and wafted it through her house. I snuck into her bathroom later when she wasn’t home to see what it was and have not been without it since! I wear it probably 2-3 times a week!

  • Darryl says:

I couldn’t live without Declaration or its flanker, Declaration Essence. They’re my desert island scents.

    • Hey Darryl,
I helped a buddy choose his new scent in the last couple of years. His choice waas Declaration too, I keep meaning to re-buy the bottle he took but constantly forget, maybe this week for summer.

  • Bastet says:

Declaration and Declaration Essence are my absolute favorite Cartier fragrances. I love them on my husband and also use them myself, especially in the warmer weather. Beautiful bottles too!

  • Ann says:

Hi, Portia! Glad to see this post because I am a Cartier fangirl from way back. As in back in the ’80s when the Must de Cartier and Panthere lines came out. I love many of the newer scents (Baiser Vole, several of the L’Heures) but the vintage Must (parfum and EDT) and Must IIs still have my heart, despite what Luca Turin says about the original. Love that movie — it’s just so cool, isn’t it?

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Ann,
I have a couple of the vintage Cartiers here but I think they were poorly cared for before they got to me. they are the men’s line and the top notes are very murky nowadays. I do like the bottles though, Cartier has a way with gorgeous things.
The movie above inspires me in so many ways, it’s as close to perfection as I’ve ever seen in an ad.
