The changing shape of fragrance: Product scents, fine fragrance, auxiliary products

productsI love to see fragrance lines expanding and offering us more and more products to love. Kai is a master of this, having branched out over the years and offering its tropical beauty in practically any form you can think of. Except perhaps a solid perfume (hint, hint).

A year or two back, Nuxe Prodigieux oil was popular enough that they’ve turned it into an EDP spray. There was even a candle, around holiday time last year, and I snagged one, finding it to be very relaxing and soothing.

Not too long ago, Oribe hair care products, which smell wonderful (and I believe Patty is a fan also), have come out with two scents, their signature scent called Cote d’Azur, with Calabrian bergamot, white butterfly jasmine, and warm sandalwood. The other, Silver Pearl, looks as if it might skew a tad more masculine with leather, bamboo and fig leaf. I’ve not smelled these in person (only spied them on the NM site), so hoping products 2Patty or someone else can comment more fully on them sometime. I will try to sniff them today and report back.

Frederic Malle for several years has had Carnal Flower hair mist and recently rolled out CF shower gel (hooray!) plus several others.

And in my Neiman Marcus visits, I see Byredo has launched a line of hair perfumes in the scents Blanche, Gypsy Water and Bal d’ Afrique ($62 for 75 mls at Neiman Marcus). Say what? No La Tulipe? Come on, Byredo, please can’t we have it? However, I am most thankful for the roll-on oils and line of body products that they’ve brought out in recent years.

Anyway, it’s a great trend – more ways to enjoy the scents we love.

As for wish lists, I, for one, would enjoy a good, strong chypre-ish candle in something like Mitsouko (or did Guerlain already do one at some point?), or Roja Dove’s Diaghilev, etc. And shower gel, body lotion or cream in Le Labo’s Tubereuse 40 or Vanille 44 would be MOST welcome, if you’re listening, Estee Lauder and company. And Le Couvent des Minimes Botanical Cologne of the Missions does come in a soap, but a body lotion (or a candle) would delight fans of this budget-friendly line. Of course, I’m sure there are some other great would-be products that I just can’t think of right now.

Now if you were in charge of such things, what product would you choose to expand its scent into an actual fragrance? Or what perfume would you turn into auxiliary products, such as body items, hair mist, candle, room spray, etc.?

I also would love a Mitsuko candle and in addition Malle’s Lipstick Rose bath gel and how about Portrait of A Lady as a body cream?

    • Ann says:

Hi, Shirley! I’m wishing right along with you on the Mitsouko candle; but you ARE in luck on your other two requests: Malle just launched a Lipstick Rose shower gel and PoaL is available in a body cream. Both are available at the Malle stores and Website and at Barney’s site and stores and Aedes de Venusta’s site and store.

    Hi Ann,
LOVE scented extras, be it body, bath or ambient. When I bathe in Shalimar, moisturise with it and then spritz it always feels like the most luxurious day, even if I do it and go down the grocery store.
Can’t think of anything that’s really missing from my life off the top of my head, sorry. EVERYTHING should come in the whole range.
    Portia xx

Howdy, darling! Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you stopping by every Monday? Thanks! And I wish I could smell you, all layered up in Shalimar — I know you are rockin’ the grocery store!!

  • Sherri M. says:

I wish Morrocanoil (original scent) came in perfume form. I love the smell of the hair products and body souffle! Hugs to you, Ann!

    • Ann says:

Hi, dear Sherri! So glad you stopped by — we have missed you! That would be a PERFECT perfume, wouldn’t it? Think we should drop a note to the company suggesting it, and tell them how well Nuxe has done with theirs. Hugs right back atcha!

I would love to see a perfume from L’Occitane’s Amande range. I’m sure it would be wildly popular, given that the Amande milk body cream is a best seller and smells delicious.

I’d love to see VS Luminous amber candle made into a perfume or BBW Limoncello lotion into a perfume

My wish list includes a Mitsouko or Shalimar candle. That would indeed be wonderful!
