Sick Day Today

I’m so sorry.  I was so sick last night, hoped I might feel well enough to bang something out this morning, and I do feel better, but am just toast on having enough functioning brain cells to write anything beyond, well, this!

It’s turning cold at nights here, which is great, but last night’s urk reminded me cold and flu season is right around the corner. I’ve never gotten a flu shot, and now I have this feeling that if I do it now, I’ll get the worst flu of my life because I normally don’t get super-sick in the winter.  What to do?

Get the flu shot or no?  Go back to bed for the rest of the day or no?  Sorry, that’s all I got today. What are you guys up to?  Any new fall perfume purchase you are plotting for some delicious new release?

    Punkin! Sorry you’re illin’!!!

No advice on the flu shot, as I’ve never had one. The closest I’ve come is having to get cholera shots for visits to chancy locales. And every time I’ve done it I’ve been vaguely sick for awhile. Of course, the cholera shot I got for Kenya came in handy, as there was an ugly cholera outbreak just over the border…so there is that.

Watch fun Netflix stuff or old movies. Do saline flushes. Tea. Sleep. Repeat as necessary.

Dear Patty, so sorry to hear you have been under the weather. Hope by now, with a good night’s sleep or two under your belt, that you’re feeling back to normal. Hang in there! BTW, we have gotten flu shots for years now and never had the flu (and the dr. requires my son to have it since he had asthma issues when he was younger), but do what feels right for you. I’m echoing Portia (above) on the lovely Iris Cendre, and also loving the dickens out of MFK’s Ciel de Gum. It just feels vintage-y and yummy, and IMHO, it wouldn’t have been out of place in Guerlain’s stable.

  • Portia says:

    Get well Patty,
Currently wafting around in a could of Iris Cendre by Naomi Goodsir. It’s so freaking good. Root, bread, carrot, powder, violet and a lovely leathery hint that is so elegant. SWOON
    Portia xx

Seems like it’s that season transition infection thing that’s going around. I know lots of sickies but most have recovered within a day or 2. Hope yours is gone soon too. I have to get flu shots for work or wear a mask for the rest of the season so I opt for the shot. The virus in the vaccine is DEAD so it can’t cause the flu. It can make people feel ill because it stimulates the immune system for a short time while it makes antibodies. Also, you can still get a flu virus since it only covers the most prominent/virulent strains coming over from Asia or somewhere but there are other strains not covered. Clearly, I’m pro vaccines. I’m also always pro going back to bed 😉

Absolutely go back to bed and definitely get a flu shot when you’re well. The year I had the flu I was sick for months with various issues. Really looking forward to trying the new L’Artisan Noir Exquis.

I say tuck up in bed and watch some good, entertaining movies. My favorites when I’m sick include old action flcks–Terminator 2 Judgement Day is often featured. There’s something therapeutic about watching somebody drive a semi-trailer truck off a highway overpass. Once you’re recovered, get the flu shot.

    Feel better!

I’m sitting here at CVS waiting for a flu shot right now. So sorry you’re feeling miserable. By all means, avoid sniffing Bond No. 9 B9. It’s a weird “kitchen sink” amalgamation of every note imaginable. Sniffed it at Saks and recoiled in horror.

  • Tena says:

Definitely go back to bed and stay there for a day or 2. I always get the flu shot – it can’t hurt and it might help.
Hope you are feeling better !

I got a flu shot and exactly 7 days later got the flu. I have never had a shot since. I have had the flu regularly from my late teens to early 30’s, then one more time in my late 30’s. then done. Maybe I’m immune now. 🙂 PS My 30’s were some time ago. Best cure – my father made me a large mug of hot, black tea with half whiskey – said I’d sweat the flu out. I did. Years later my doctor said – have a lot of hot toddies! I think last year’s flu shot had a failure rate of 80% and the previous year it was about 50%. From what I hear. they aren’t all that safe either. Anyway, for me, no shots. Do what feels right to you. There are no guarantees either way.

  • Caroline says:

Get the shot next year, but do so at the end of Aug or beginning of Sept. That’s what the pharmacists recommend, and it’s worked well for the last few years.

  • tammy says:

I don’t do flu shots ( they think it’s an issue with albumin) but most people I know swear by them. However, I wouldn’t get one while you’re sick. Go back to bed, and think about getting one next week. Sending speedy recovery vibes!

  • Rina says:

Go back to bed, no flue shot… Feel better soon!

I say go back to bed and when you feel completely better, get a flu shot. I am back home after spending a week in Texas for a wedding and spent way too much money procuring 3 bottles of vintage Mitsouko that date no later than the 50’s. Now I have to go to the boarders and bail my dogs out.

Go back to bed. I’m also cutting it short at work due a cold that morphed into a “really nice” (my doctor’s words) case of bronchitis and a sinus infection, so I’ll be heading back to bed soon. And get the flu shot – I get them because I have to, but even if I didn’t, after losing my strong and health brother-in-law to complications from flu, I get them. They help. Feel better soon!
