Neroli EdC by Isabelle Doyen for Annick Goutal 2013

Hi there Perfume Posse. Neroli is one of the Les Colognes range reformulated in Eau de Cologne by Isabelle Doyen and re-released in square unisex clear glass 200ml bottles as part of the rebranding and updating of the Annick Goutal house by South Korean owners Amore Pacific. I love the idea of someone having this enormous bottle on their bureau or dressing table and spritzing themselves liberally each morning and being the center of a fragrant cloud caught in the morning light. The whole idea is gorgeous to me.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Neroli, orange blossom, petitgrain

Bright, crisp, playful and springlike are the first words that pop into my head when I spritz Neroli EdC. It’s a refreshing breeze, a zephyr, a sunlit afternoon swimming with friends. Maybe a picnic in the park, donuts and tea shared in the late afternoon as the suns madly drying heat starts to abate or a cool white wine spritzer on a sailboat. Both full of whimsy and dead set elegant the citrus is happily surrounded by leaves and flowers, drizzled with white musk and backed by some soft green woods and herbs. Could there even be a hint of lavender?

Citrus, the whole tree is shown in smell-o-vision, refreshing and surprisingly long lasting. Only the merest hint of bitterness creates a lovely tone under the sparkling sweetness. Stridently refreshing, a perfect spring scent that will bounce you through your morning. Not much left after 3 hours and by 4 my skin is anxiously awaiting a respritz. You’ll need to take a travel decant to refresh. With a 200ml bottle though you’ll not run dry in a hurry.

If you want to smell like spring Neroli is a good choice. Totally unisex, an excellent way to start the day or as a pick me up throughout or a perfect evening enhancement.

Ohhhhh, that’s a shame — I liked the little AG bottles! But the Neroli sounds lovely. I really enjoy Frederic Malle’s Cologne Indelible, so I might like this one, too!

  • Sun Mi says:

There is something romantic about giant bottles of cologne that beckon spritzes throughout the day, isn’t there?

  • Bastet says:

I bought small bottles (30ml) of the AG Neroli and Vetiver EDCs last summer and wore them both a lot – I need to bring them back out of storage now that the weather is warming up.

  • Tara says:

I should re-try this one but I really want to try Eau de Neroli Doré by Hermes. Have you tried it, Portia?

    • Portia says:

      Hey Tara,
No, not yet. I can’t seem to sit still and focused long enough to get through my current pile.
Hermès is in town so I have to be going there already or I just stay home like a very happy little hermit.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, dear Portia! This AG sounds enchanting and has shot to the top of my must-try list. I’m a sucker for anything in the OB family. Might have to order a sample from STC as it seems all the big stores near me have quit carrying the line. Saks Fifth Avenue used to have the whole range, but since the store did a remodel, I haven’t seen the AGs.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Ann,
It’s weird. We don’t seem to have Annick Goutal much here either anymore, only at one of the big city department stores. Personally I don’t think they did themselves any favours by putting everything in the same clear glass bottles. I thought the coloured ones so pretty and love to pick them up and spritz
Great to see you, as always.

  • Neva says:

Hi Portia, I find Eau de Colognes often too sour or too bitter, depending on the composition of the ingredients. And the fact that you have to respritz often drives me crazy because the bottles are usually huge and it’s complicated to carry them around. Nevertheless I buy one every summer. This year it will be one of the Acqua di Parma Colonia series. I have to go and sniff through the line once again.

    • Portia says:

      Neva,
That is hilarious. What about decanting some so it’s easier to carry around?
Did you like the DIOR Escale range? I find them pretty and sweet.

      • Neva says:

Hmmm…I never did the decanting, probably lazyness but I could give it a try 😉
I liked the Escale de Portofino by Dior but I think the range is being discontinued because they have only the “leftovers” around here. You are right, they are pretty and sweet.

        • Portia says:

Ahhh, I wonder if they are. Such a shame because I liked a couple of them and have a quite empty bottle of Escale de Portofino here.
They are very cheap on the discounters.
