What’s new Monday

Howdy, Posse folks! Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts last week; I have bounced back and am once again rarin’ to go! So let’s call this what’s new Monday. I made a trip to the big city today to meet a friend for dinner, and on the way, I poked around a bit at the perfume counters. Didn’t get over to Saks Fifth Avenue but did stop by Nordstrom: not much new there that I could see. However, at Neiman Marcus I did spy what looked like the whole Roja Dove line, and also two new ones from the Aerin Lauder line: Tuberose du Jour and Tuberose de Nuit (might have gotten those names a little messed up, but you get the idea). And just around the corner from that was the (new to me) Yves Saint Laurent Vestiaire line, which looked intriguing.

Alas, I had already been over to the Byredo counter and was wearing Mojave Ghost and Belle de Tangier, the NM exclusive, plus a little something else, so I had no real estate to try anything else But next time for sure.

Speaking of what’s new, I’m a little surprised that our Neiman’s has the Roja Dove line in (mercy, but there are a lot of bottles in that line!), but not the Frederic Malle collection. Perhaps there’s some kind of an exclusivity clause within certain territories or something else retail-oriented. There’s a post in there somewhere on why which stores get what lines and for how long, and what hoops a store has to jump through to carry a line.

Anyhoo, so what’s new with you guys? And what new scent have you sampled lately or are wanting to try?

  • Kate E. says:

I don’t know how you resisted the Roja Dove! I think if I saw them in the wild I would walk away in a visible scent-cloud. I have recently been making my way through a Serge Lutens sample set I bought myself as a reward for finishing my summer class. I’m enjoying trying to figure out what notes I smell and which don’t work for me. It’s been my stay-cation!

    • Ann says:

HIya, Kate! What a fun stay-cation — sounds like my cup of tea!! I was able to avoid going overboard at the RD counter only because I’ve sniffed most of them, and the ones I haven’t (like the ouds and tutti-fruitti business) I don’t have much interest in. I will spritz more there however when cooler weather returns.

Hey Ann! Glad you’re back to full-strength!
I would love to try Papillon’s Dryad — I’m a huge fan of Salome and Anubis. There’s a boutique somewhat near that carries FM, but the Nordstrom’s here does not. It would be amazing to have the Roja Dove line at hand! I love my teeny sample of Diaghilev, but there’s no way I could ever afford a bottle.

    • Ann says:

Hi, lady — thank you!! I wonder if STC carries the Papillon line so you could sample it? I’m so far behind I haven’t even tried the other two you mentioned. And yes, the RD prices are quite off-putting. Samples are the way to go there.

  • Portia says:

    Hey Ann,
    Glad you’re better.
Those YSL Prive aren’t bad. If they were AUD$140 I’d buy them all. They’re not, VERY aspirationally priced.
    Portia xx

    • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! Thanks! Didn’t realize they were that expensive — yikes! I’ll try a couple next time I’m by there but you’re right — a high price tag tends to scare me off a bit.

  • MrsDalloway says:

Papillon Dryad is very good – a bit wild and smoky for me but definitely worth a try. Glad you’re feeling better!

    • Ann says:

Thanks! Wild and smoky sounds like it could be a very interesting experience. Maybe you might like it better in cooler weather?

  • maggiecat says:

I recently tried Dame Perfumery Earth Mother and Monsoon. Both are To. Die. For. But Earth Mother has completely won my heart. I like it in the summer heat, but I think it will be even more amazing come Fall.

Mojave Ghost has been on my wishful-sampling list forever. Must look for it soon. And the Malle line is at a shopping mall within driving distance and so is one of the boutiques. I have no excuse but inertia to explain why I have never tried anything but L’eau d’Hiver.

Like Tara C, I am excited to try MEM. Lavender makes me happy, hope MEM a good one.

    • Ann says:

Lucky you to have the line so close. Hope you try the MEM soon and let us know what you think of it.

  • rosarita313 says:

Hi Ann, glad you are feeling better 🙂 recent samples include Imaginary Authors St Julep, sweet mint and ice, which I love but which sadly vanishes before I leave the house, boo. Perfect for summer for the right person. Other samples, Zoologist Dragonfly and the new version of Panda which was very kindly included as an extra. So far I like both but they need more study.

    • Ann says:

Hi, dear! Thanks! Mmmm, that IA sounds nice, perfect for our crazy, hot, muggy weather. Need to try those others as well. Stay cool!

  • fillifelle says:

Can’t wait to try Amouage Figment. Have also been curious about Vero Kern’s Onda for the longest time. I’m recently in the mood for a creamy vanilla and have ordered samples of Safran Troublant and Mancera’s Vanilla Aoud.

    • Ann says:

Looking forward to trying the Amouage as well. And your samples on the way are pretty nice. Enjoy!!

  • Tara C says:

Nordstroms (flagship stores) has Malle. I am waiting anxiously to try Dryad, Naja and MEM.

    • Ann says:

Ooh — lucky you!! We have two Nordies in my city, but neither are flagships. Let us know what you think.
